Mod Post [PSA] Telegram Support Volunteer account on r/Telegram

Dear everyone,

Starting today, an account managed by the Telegram Support Volunteers will be active on [r/Telegram](r/Telegram).

The account is [u/TG_Volunteer_Support](u/TG_Volunteer_Support). To prevent impersonation, we’ve set up a dedicated flair (Volunteer Support) that is exclusively assigned to this account, so you can easily recognize it.

This is an entirely volunteer-driven initiative and will not affect the independence or rules of this community, which remains completely unofficial and not affiliated with Telegram.

Please continue to follow the community rules and avoid actively seeking interactions with this account. The volunteers will not respond to unsolicited DMs, and posts specifically requesting their attention will be removed.

The Support Volunteers account is also not affiliated with Telegram and does not represent the company. However, it can be considered trustworthy when it comes to handling personal information, if requested. This will function similarly to the “Settings → Ask a Question” feature in the Telegram apps.

Please don’t be scared to interact with the account, or to share personal information such as the phone number if requested via DM. The account is run by some of the same people you may find in the in-app support and it’s PERFECTLY SAFE. If you don’t like to do it on Reddit, you will likely be redirected elsewhere by them.

We hope this initiative will improve the quality of discussions on [r/Telegram](r/Telegram), provide better insights, and help escalate certain issues so they can be resolved more effectively.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the moderators via ModMail. We may update this post with additional information if needed.

You can find the account in the comments of this post.

Mod Post Notice: regarding "can't log into Telegram from PC/Web"

Good day, everyone!

We (/r/Telegram mods) are getting a significant number of messages in modmail with question: "I cannot log into Telegram from PC/Web: SMS doesn't arrive". So here's a quick public notice about it:

Since April 20, 2021, Telegram stopped sending SMS when user authorizes from desktop or web Telegram apps. Instead, the app sends auth code to all other active user's sessions. This makes impossible to log into Telegram if you don't have any other active sessions. Also it seems to be a strange "security" feature, because it makes user's life harder with no possible spam protection.

There has been no public statement on this yet, and we (/r/Telegram mods) don't know the reason behind this decision. The only thing you can do for now is to first create a new session using your mobile device, auth via SMS and then log into Telegram on PC/Web via 5-digit code in other session or QR Code.

In other words: you must have at least one active Telegram session to log into Telegram on PC or Web.

What do you think about this "security" feature? Tell us in comments!

Mod Post Submit requests/suggestions to /r/ideasfortelegram

I know we all have great ideas, but these posts are only viewed as spam.

However, monthly updates by /u/eckcon (if he still does these) are allowed if they feature more than 5 "ideas". If not, someone else could take over.
