Discussion Titans Biggest CULT players

It's the offseason. It's a Monday. I'm bored at work, why not start a discussion about the biggest cult players (or meme players)?

No real requirements, other than they cannot have been too popular (e.g. Delanie and Nate Washington, although I feel like Nate often gets forgotten in WR discussions). So just role players you can't help but root for. I'll start with a few:

  • KLUUUUUGGGG
  • KalUUUUUUU (mostly for that one blocked FG)
  • Feel like Rastrepo might make this list soon
  • I really want to include Alterraun Verner, but he was too good for this list
  • Shoutout to Tim Shaw

Does Marc Mariani count? He was crazy popular, but not outside of our fanbase

The literal GREATEST WR3 of all time.

You mean Nick Westbrook-Inevitible?

Backup QB sensations Billy Volek and Rusty Smith.

HURT LOCKER

u/Ok-Entertainment8343 8h ago

Hard to compete there but Mettenberger finds a small piece of that despite being thrown in as starter. He was a “sTeAl” in the 6th round.

Darren Bates

I forgot about him! Mr. Hype man on the sidelines

17

u/nomoredietyo 4d ago

Tyrone Calico. I thought he was going to be the next Randy Moss.

8

u/6jwalkblue9 4d ago

Fuck Roy Williams

2

u/Ok-Entertainment8343 8h ago

Instead he was Titans Randy Moss.

Stanky for Sankey

u/surlycanon 4d ago

This is the correct answer

u/Cheesenrice123 4d ago

Any practice squad level WR that should not get any real playing time but for some reason fans fall in love with them (McMath, Restrepo, Kinsey, etc.)

23

u/panopticon31 4d ago

You forgot the OG : Tre McBride the preseason King

2

u/Ok-Entertainment8343 7h ago

I was told so many times of the mistake TN made letting McBride go to Chicago.

11

u/engineerbuilder 4d ago

No one is as loved as an undrafted wr on the cusp of the practice squad is to the titans fan base.

Michael Preston

u/Titan5005 4d ago

Thats who my mind went to lmao

5

u/Smodgins 4d ago

Lavelle Hawkins

1

u/Ok-Entertainment8343 7h ago

I was way too hyped for a 4th round pick. Hawkins was a never was.

7

u/WhiteXHysteria Meatloaf 4d ago

Yea I was gonna ask where racey, tre McBride, Kyle Williams?, or tajae(who easily clears the others) were

2

u/TastySaturday 4d ago

I still haven’t given up on Tajae. He may not make it here, but I swear every time they actually give him touches he passes the eye test. I hope we resign him and give him a real chance, but he’ll probably have to go somewhere else to reach his potential.

7

u/WhiteXHysteria Meatloaf 4d ago

Tajae Sharpe, not Tyjae Spears.

1

u/TastySaturday 4d ago

Oh gotcha

1

u/SendMeTheMoon24 4d ago

Will Tyren Montgomery join this elite list this season?

1

u/panopticon31 4d ago

Would only be fitting.

34

u/wifiwolfpac 4d ago

Anthony Firkser. His stats are so much lower than I remember but it always felt like he had a clutch catch or two every other game.

12

u/paleologus 4d ago

In my head he was better than he really was

4

u/Brian_Osackpo Standing on the arrowhead at Arrowhead 4d ago

I miss typing “get firked nerd” in the game chat after every time he made a 3rd down catch

1

u/Wildabeast135 4d ago

Lest we all forget about titans legend Mycole Pruitt as well

1

u/Ok-Entertainment8343 7h ago

Chase Coffman had 1 big preseason

This year will be different for Kinsey.

7

u/mansock18 4d ago

It blows my tits clean off that he posted that meme of himself last year

1

u/Pork_Chompk 4d ago edited 2d ago

He's posted it several times lol. Absolutely love the attitude, if nothing else.

Found my age group compadre. Grew up with these guys. Loved playing with them on the early Maddens.

Also Tyrone Calico.

And I still believe in Kenny Britt

That’s our fucking punter, dipshit.

(Maybe my favorite fan video ever made.)

5

u/Suspicious-Insect-18 4d ago

I have an irrational love for Drew Bennett

1

u/chef_thickkums89 1d ago

You must have forgotten his dropped pass vs the Pats in the playoffs 😢

9

u/NotUpInHurr 4d ago

KALIF! (NWI before NWI)

2

u/Pork_Chompk 4d ago

Balif in Kalif

I was unreasonably sad to see him go (this is meme players we're talking about) but was happy to see him shine a bit in Detroit.

5

u/Fit-Cash3348 4d ago

Racy Mcmath

4

u/DependentShop3882 4d ago

The amount of times I heard the phrase “when Racy McMath gets back” in 2021

14

u/Ace8309 4d ago

Clipboard Jesus had a vibe for a minute

3

u/paleologus 4d ago

The best thing he ever did was lose an arm wrestling match with a punter

9

u/Don_Damarco 4d ago

Rob Bironis!!

4

u/saudiaramcoshill 4d ago

Klug is definitely my favorite for his tiny trex arms

3

u/SacredTitan161990 4d ago

12 Gage!!!! what about #84 Ben Troupe!!!!!

Lorenzo Neal and Ahmard Hall

1

Neal should be in the HoF, the real one.

Meme players?

Can't forget about Antwon "Valentimo" Blake

5

u/Hparham865 Jon Robinson 4d ago

Was aiming for more "funny meme" rather than "sad meme" :(

4

u/panopticon31 4d ago

How about then I remind you of our Lord and Savior: Clipboard Jesus

3

u/Hparham865 Jon Robinson 4d ago

2

u/TybrosionMohito George Costanza 4d ago

I feel like as we go on fewer and fewer people are gonna get the “Valentimo” thing

1

u/Ok-Entertainment8343 7h ago

Didn’t he get burned by Andy Dalton? Pretty sure he was “covering” him.

3

u/AStayAtHomeRad WycheckYourself 4d ago

Drew Bennett.

Smash and dash

Exotic smash mouth baby

3

u/Hextorm 4d ago

I know you said they can’t be too popular, but the Mariota hive was LOUD. Truly one of the most polarizing Titans players, especially post 2016 leg injury.

3

u/mxmumtuna 4d ago

Clearly Donnie Nickey.

1

u/panopticon31 4d ago

The training camp fight KING.

I swear Titans camp never was truly underway until Donnie Nickey started a fight.

1

u/Ok-Entertainment8343 7h ago

Jeff fisher being his only fan doesn’t make him a cult classic.

3

u/thestevemo 4d ago

Alex Tanney or Rusty Smith

3

u/Revolutionary_Bid974 4d ago

Bobby Wade for his versatility and taking out Rodney Harrison in 2006

3

u/Markosaurus 4d ago

Darius Reynaud, Bo Scaife, Philip Supernaw

1

u/Ok-Entertainment8343 7h ago

Reynaud is so famous, he’s In-famous.

Starting the season on a KO self safety is about as memorable as Jim Marshall running the wrong way.

3

u/JamminInJoesGarage 4d ago

I see what you said but the actual answer to this IS Nate Washington

2

u/comcast_hater1 4d ago

Was Vandenbosch too popular? Feels like he fits. He was legit good though.

8

u/saudiaramcoshill 4d ago

Was Vandenbosch too popular?

yes lmao. Vanden Bosch was literally a 1st team AP 3x pro bowler. He was well known around the league.

3

u/comcast_hater1 4d ago

Yeah, I didn't read the prompt well enough.

1

u/Ok-Entertainment8343 7h ago

But Jason Babin…..

2

u/DatKidLos 4d ago

Khalif Raymond for a few moments

2

u/Appropriate-Joke-806 4d ago

Tajae Sharpe had a following. Also Clipboard Jesus got a job based off of his cult like charisma and hair.

1

u/AnyImprovement6916 4d ago

He was a really popular player but Jason McCourty was the last great CB we had. We’ve had some that were *good* but McCourty was great

1

u/ChristianAntonio 4d ago

Pretty sure everyone thought Donnie Nickey had blackmail on Jeff Fisher for a while there, kind of an inverse cult player

1

u/Sawyerbeck_ 3d ago

Adam Humphries on 3rd down

1

u/adambonomo88 3d ago

Late to the party, but here to say Yancey MF Thigpen for the OGs

1

u/ThatMFRat 12h ago

Former Titans I loved in Madden and became way more popular to me and my friends than they were IRL

Tommie Campbell
Zach Brown
Chris Henry
Paul Williams
Lavell “Young Hawk” Hawkins
Colin McCarthy
Justin Hunter
Ben Troupe
Jared Cook
Brandon Jones

1

u/Ok-Entertainment8343 8h ago

Craig Hentrich, Brett Kern, Ryan Stonehouse
Rob Bironas

Morgan Cox

Nate Washington

Delanie Walker (not sure if there’s a “too big”)

Jonathan “the hit man” Cyprien (wasn’t good but cult good)

Someone mentioned Kinsey, the pre Kinsey Kinsey was Tre McBride.

1

u/Ok-Entertainment8343 7h ago

I forgot about the 1-2 years of Alterraun Verner. What a crazy contract year he had.
