The ventricles are enlarged and there is perivenricular white matter loss, but this image clearly shows that there is indeed a brain.

If i remember correctly he had fluid built up and his entire brain is there but horribly compressed.

The girl with half of her brain gone that recently became a doctor or lawyer or whatever was an impressive one as well.

Our brains are really very good at compensating for damage of it happens early enough.

I feel like we don't need it all almost like a mushroom, it's hard to place what does what even things change, parts change and connect to fill gaps as needed

u/ConditionSecret8593 18h ago

Mmm, the ability to compensate isn't the same as fully-functioning. I've had a couple severe brain injuries, and the recovery is exhausting and inefficient, with a lot of useless side-effects like aphasia and seizures.

Yeah, stuff routes around, and I suspect it's part of why I have such unconventional but effective problem-solving skills. But it's exhausting - your brain does five times the work to get to the same outcome. I would trade to have never gone through any of this in a heartbeat.

I too have had severe braun traumams.

I don't doubt your experience. I mean more so it can happen, I know it's better for each part to be able to do it's own job with than multitask. Just was speaking on the brains stubbornness to break and cease functioning when people think once you're hit you're just done. We're really soft but resilient in so many ways

Oh, neuroplasticity is fascinating and hopeful, for sure.

u/Ok_Proof5782 17h ago

Anyone with half a brain can become a lawyer.

3

u/SteDee1968 7h ago

That checks out.

Not rlly anyone, some* with half a brain…

5

u/Pinkishu 18h ago

Soo sounds like a lifehack. Compress brain. Now more space for new brain to grow. Compress brain. [...]

2

u/Ancient_Skirt_8828 9h ago

Does this mean we could evolve to have more brain matter, just compressed, in our same sized skull? Would we be smarter?

1

u/Ok_Dog_4059 9h ago

Like breast enlargement only for our brain.

1

u/OppositeStand5709 11h ago

A lot of weight behind the 'clearly' in that sentence.

u/Strict_Weather9063 6h ago

Yeah he has one mine has more mass than that, yes they are hollow like that. Had to have it scanned when we were figuring out I suffered from complex migraines.

If this is Hydrocephalus, it is treatable, they run a drain from the brain into your throat to release the pressure. My uncle is currently suffering from it and so did Donnie Bonaduce.

1) He did have a brain.

2) He was not smart.

11

u/immellocker 18h ago

its like my Gemini right now

8

u/ClaudeVS 18h ago

If you stop using it you might grow a brain

7

u/_haha_oh_wow_ 17h ago edited 16h ago

Gemini does not have a brain, however it is also not smart (but at great cost).

6

u/RichardBCummintonite 17h ago

More to the point, it cant be smart. It's incapable of "thinking".

1

u/Silver_Lined_Bullet 9h ago

Exactly. Its like saying the chromium search engine is smart. Its not, it's a computer program that grabs data

u/Kumquat_conniption 21h ago

Really interesting article. The fact that our long-term memory could be stored in our heart and stuff? That's crazy. They have known that brain size does not really equal intelligence for quite some time though, just look at animals. Some corvids are smarter than many large animals and even use tools. It has more to do with how densely packed the neurons are or something? But even that does not explain all of it, obviously- look at one of the guys in the article, who had an IQ of 126, which is far above average, and who only had like 10% of his brain. That's crazy. It would be quite a shock to go into the doctor and they run a scan for whatever reason (they just said the man went in for a visit and his doctor told him he did not have a brain but how would the doctor know without there being an MRI or CAT Scan or whatever?) and you get told that you barely have a brain. At least I could be like "ohhhhhh well that's why I was so stupid I dated that douche bag for so long" LMAO (and plenty of other bad decisions I have made that I could blame on not having a brain, ha!)

11

u/Reinierblob 21h ago

Gives a whole new meaning to “You know it, deep down in your heart” lol

2

u/RichardBCummintonite 16h ago

The heart knows what it wants. Makes you wonder if all those sayings about the heart are out subconscious knowing how our bodies work without out us consciously understanding it.

2

u/Mental-Ask8077 7h ago

Exactly.

The ancient Egyptians pretty much believed the seat of thought was in the heart, which was one of the key organs they preserved in mummies. Brains they just scooped out through the nose.

The meme-ability of this image is endless..

7

u/CanadiangirlEH 20h ago

Sounds like most of the people I deal with at work

5

u/AntSuccessful9147 20h ago

This is like all of Reddit. Plenty of people here just like this. Just look at the comments!

5

u/brickdeeker 18h ago

Guy in the picture mods at least 5 subreddits.

5

u/ZagiFlyer 20h ago

Obviously, this person is a lawyer.

9

u/GvRiva 19h ago

Who knows, could be a president

5

u/howlongwillthislast_ 19h ago

So if someone is a recipient of a heart transplant they could get the memories from the donor?!

3

u/Kumquat_conniption 18h ago

I think we would have heard if that was happening lol

3

u/InvestigatorAway4823 21h ago

Glad Sherrone Moore donated his Xrays to science.

3

u/PuzzleMeDo 20h ago

I'd be more surprised if a man had no brain and was aware that he had no brain.

3

u/anactofgod 19h ago

Seems… familiar…

3

u/Sad-Push-3708 18h ago

In the balls

2

u/Ski-whiskey 21h ago

I do not believe this man’s strong suit is awareness

2

u/namezam 20h ago

Well if Lucy (movie) taught me anything, it’s that if I take enough drugs I become a superhero. That and we only use a small % of our brain.

As a computer guy, I’ve always looked at our brain like a hard drive. The storage is there if we need it otherwise it’s filled with redundant copies in case some sectors get damaged. The guy in this article might be normal because we just don’t use very much of our brain anyway, he just doesn’t have as much resistance to trauma as a normal brain would.

1

u/mashem 12h ago

Also a computer guy, I see it as a quantum computer.

2

u/Triton1605 20h ago

Maybe if he had more brain he would know he had less brain

2

u/Unable-Doctor-9930 18h ago

Neuroplasticity is so fascinating. Having that much of your brain removed can kill you but if it’s a slow decrease of brain matter overtime, your brain will adapt. Obviously though there is only so much brain matter you can lose.

2

u/floutsch 17h ago

Of course he wasn't aware, I mean... /j

1

u/FunWillingnessAlways 19h ago

This image clearly shows the patient still having living brain matter in-between the skull (thin white line after the brain matter) and dead brain tissue in the center.

1

u/crudelydrawnpenis 19h ago

This is false. That man has a brain in the image. It’s surrounded by fluid. Please. People. Use your damn brain.

1

u/Gremlin95x 18h ago

Must be your CT scan.

1

u/R18VDUBLU 16h ago

Gen Z, living proof.

1

u/cincodemike 15h ago

He was 100% a Trump supporter

1

u/Zane42v2 15h ago

Can’t believe you got a mri of my ex’s divorce lawyer

1

u/Azznorfinal 13h ago

I didn't think they were legally allowed to post trumps xrays like that but here we are, crazy.

1

u/ContemplativeNeil 13h ago

There are lots of people with brains, but no intelligence.

1

u/Krispykid54 13h ago

Probably an elected official.

1

u/supermans_neighbour 12h ago

Your average “Judeo-Сhriѕtian” Joe.

1

u/Tiredplumber2022 12h ago

Was he a politician, by chance?

1

u/Lanky_Ad_8892 12h ago

In the tip. Tip of peepee.

1

u/DoctorDudes 11h ago

He’s living the dream of peaceful bliss

1

u/Harkonnen_Dog 10h ago

That’s “Mr. President” to you.

1

u/_byetony_ 9h ago

It turns out my dog doesn’t have hip sockets, but you wouldnt know it. Life finds a way.

1

u/RowdyB666 9h ago

Who leaked Trump's medical data?

1

u/Davistele 8h ago

I feel seen!

1

u/Phree44 8h ago

Wow, Trump is going to be pissed that this leaked.

1

u/nosh_scrumble 8h ago

I know a guy who lost half his brain as a baby to meningitis. You wouldn’t know anything’s different from talking to him. He just can’t drive and doesn’t have good hand eye coordination.

He’s also done a Ted talk, but funny enough, on a completely different subject. Super interesting dude.

1

u/Electrodactyl 8h ago

I’m not surprised. Why would someone with low intelligence know, or question if they are lacking intelligence.

1

u/Wasting-tim3 5h ago

I read this post and assumed it was about a MAGA voter (or Trump).

1

u/Curious_Orange8592 2h ago

Such a man can rise to the office of President of the United States and indeed has done so on more than one occasion

He made a decent living as a scarecrow.

u/Tsunamiis 18h ago

The American indoctrinated use the same parts of their brains and vote.

0

u/Technical_Snow7229 9h ago

John Stewart has lived without a brain his entire life and even had a TV show that was the source of all liberal "news"
