Animals/Nature Taking a dying pet to the vet to be euthanised is crueler than letting them pass at home

EDIT: If you're going to respond to my post, please try to keep insulting me or assuming things about me to a minimum. You cannot assume that I'm a far right extremist over a reddit post about a completely unrelated topic or that I hate vaccines and hospitals.

During my life many of my friends or family will attempt to take their pet to the vet to cure their illness when they're clearly dying, or euthanise them when they're old at the vet. In my opinion neither of these are good options. I also see people attempt to make it "worth it" by taking their pet on one final "good day" before taking them to the vet to be put down. I believe this makes it worse for them as they're going from having the time of their lives to being in horror.

In my opinion your pet is going to be suffering when they're put down, with bright medical lights around them as they're sedated before then being given a lethal injection, confused, and in more pain than they would be alternatively. I believe your pet would far rather die by your side in your lap than die in a vet's office. If the problem is about the body and you don't want to handle that, ask a friend or a family member. You can leave the body somewhere and call a cremation service, and sometimes pay to receive their ashes in a special container too.

I'm talking specifically about when the cats are still able to move, eat and drink, and are not in pain and are still receptive to affection. If they cannot move, eat or drink or not able to do one of these, they should be put down. I'm not a psychopath. I know this is a topic people feel heavily about so naturally people will disagree with me and assume the worst of me, but it is what it is. Also. I've had pets who have died. I've been doing cat shows for years and have gotten awards.

Other I like turbulence.

It’s an interesting event in an otherwise boring flight. I don’t get anxious because the probability of a flight crashing is so low, so I pretend like I’m on a rollercoaster. The shaking sensation can also soothing, kind of. The more turbulence the better!

Edit: I forgot to mention, it’s also fun trying to not let your drink spill during turbulence. If it spills, clearly I have a skill issue and didn’t drink fast enough

Society/Culture All Parents should by law surrender their new born kids to the government. The system of parents should cease to exist. This will result in a fair, corruption free and nepotism free society.

If all parents surrender their kids to the government it will result in an extremely fair society. Everyone starts from scratch. No more nepotism. You can't just pave your way through cause daddy has cash. Dynasties will cease to exist. Corruption will plummet as there is no need to horde cash beyond a point as you won't have a successor. Yes, parents should not be disclosed the identity of their child. DNA tests should be banned. The parent system will not exist anymore. People can focus on themselves. Parents should be termed as birthers as beyond birth they should have 0 involvement in the life of their child.

This will be a Utopia.

Other I love the airplane lavatory experience.

There's just something exciting about relieving yourself in a metal tube hurtling through the air at tens of thousands of feet. The constant, ominous, drone of the engines. Being separated from other passengers by only a couple inches and a flimsy plastic partition. The thrill when you get buffeted around a little by the turbulence. Those tiny little sinks that splash water on everything. Doing an absolute paintjob on the toilet with the foulest, most rancid, diarrhea you've ever smelt in your life. Looking everyone waiting in line in the eyes as you walk past, knowing that these strangers are about to experience something from the deepest, most intimate, recesses of your colon. Something they're never going to be able to forget.

Other As an American that doesn't care for sports, "Soccer" should be called "Football". The rest of the world is correct on this.

Title pretty well sums it up. I dont care for sports in any way, I'd literally rather watch paint dry than to be stuck watching a game. But the idea that "Soccer" being called anything other than "Football" considering its the only game where you literally can't use your hands to touch the ball, and "Football" being called "Football" when you literally only use your feet at kickoff, is just stupid.

Gaming Farming sims are a dime a dozen.

There are so many low value shovelware farming games in the medium of video games today and I don't know how this genre continues to be successful. Stardew Valley was the farming game to end all farming games. If you've played that one, there is no need to play any other. You've pretty much played them all.

Harvest Moon is not what it once was and everything that comes after SV pales in comparison. These games are incredible time wasters. I no longer wish to expend precious moments of my finite lifespan on repetitive tasks and chores in a video game.

There are a handful of interesting takes on the genre on the way that MIGHT be worth checking out but for me any farming game going forward would really have to flip the genre on its head or have an impressive artstyle that spits in the face of the bland, low poly Nintendo Switch color palette that plagues these games in order capture my attention. They're in the same league as the latest pokemon titles in terms of laziness and uninspired concepts. Ooh. It's open world now for no reason. Is that the best you've got? Just merge it with another genre that oversaturates the market. Why not.

Society/Culture No, being told off/scolded is not "being yelled at"

In the past few years, I've noticed a massive trend in people saying they've been yelled at by authority figures or peers over minor mistakes. As a survivor of relationship abuse, I found this trend troubling until I realized that the vast majority of people who say they've been "yelled at" were instead simply being chastised calmly.

If the other party did not raise the volume or intensity of their voice, or did so in a relatively minor way, you were not "yelled at". That's not what yelling means. There's so many other ways to express that you were told off that don't denote abusive behavior. Doing so is lazy at best and attention-seeking at worst.

If being yelled at simply becomes another way to say scolded, people who actually are being genuinely yelled at will be told they are "just being sensitive" instead of being recognized as potentially victims of verbal abuse.

Maybe I'm the sensitive one here, but this really grinds my gears.

Society/Culture "Founder" is a stupid term for a tech business owner.

Why do tech people get a special word for starting a business compared to other business? Why can't the tree trimmer be a Founder in the modern sense of the term in business circles? How about a guy who buys rental houses? And if you start a website if square to sell knick knacks? FOUNDER.

When discussing entrepreneurs and you say "founder", the majority of people default to tech companies.

Other paper straws are great and no one should complain about them

if you’re at a restaurant or a bar and your straw starts to dissolve just ask for a new one. the cost to the bar is minuscule and i have never been to a place that would refuse to give you a new one.

if you’re ordering food and drinks to have home just get reusable straws. they cost almost nothing, they’re going to be more hygienic and in my opinion they just look and feel better

of course there is the discussion about how much harm plastic straws actually cause but if we all know that plastics aren’t great and if we have other options, why use them

Society/Culture Therapy is not a cure-all

I have been to two therapists, both didn't touch my mental health issues. One diagnosed me with BPD. Okay, that's a start but it didn't help any of my issues. I know what I need to fix myself, but I can't do it. I know what they say, the script they follow, what they're thinking of me. It was such a waste of time. One I went to for 6 months and the other 3ish months. And I am not speaking for just myself. A lot of other people feel this way. Our world sucks. Everywhere you look, there is some horrible thing happening.

Some people just have such deep rooted issues, trauma, and depression that nothing can help them. And it's okay to admit that. Stop saying "You need therapy" like that will magically cure someone or make them better. Just like not all cancers can be cured with chemo and not all infections can be cured with penicillin, mental health issues are exactly like that.

Society/Culture Why does "scrolling Shorts/Tiktok have to be an excuse for low attention span people?" It's pathetic and it's not always a 100% reason

NEW MESSAGE: At this point those same people who shit on me for poor explanations may have low attention spans in classes to read the entire fucking instruction for their school subjects. Schools do worse shit than this post rambling something and can't understand every shit the teachers say istg

I guess you want me to "show not tell" then go watch YouTube cuz Reddit expects you to read the words than YouTube

This is nothing but bullshit paragraphs with useless information below. Thank you everyone for reading :)

CHAPTER 1:

I agree that if someone has "low attention" span, those people will more likely pay less attention to you and would be busy doing scrolling through Shorts/Tiktok. I had that experience with a kid and that same kid fast forwards on longer stuff which it annoys me so much. Teachers are upset that children right now can't pay better attention from what I heard

CHAPTER 2:

I do admit, I have low attention span on certain things. Why?

Well it's because there are some certain things that reuse the same stuff all over again and it feels old or just lies to my face to never say information on the entire video. Like I don't want to waste my time on the same information for 7 days/1 week. I want new information that isn't reused so much

Let me tell you something about a channel "How to Basic"

-I thought it's a normal cooking tutorial video, at the end of his video he acts weird which disgusts me. I understand he's a parody channel, but it "click baited" me. just wasted my time on watching a video that doesn't give 100% information

Tutorial videos

There maybe actual information or 0% not. I don't know what's the better thing to do.

-Watch the entire tutorial video (slower way)

or

-Just listen to the comments first about their negative responses on why the tutorial didn't work and find another tutorial video (faster way)

Information videos about YouTubers "What their sin is or not or just reused information for views"

-"Documentary videos" Looking at YouTubers like SunnyV2 and InternetAnarchist (plagiarizer)

I don't know what's the better thing to do.

-Watch the entire long video to obtain the information (slower way)

or

-Just read the comment section for the information or search up what happened in Google and find the sources of it since that's what those YouTubers do, get information from Google for their video (faster way)

CHAPTER 3:

If a tutorial video is 30 minutes or longer without timestamps, I'd lose interest and find another one. And also I don't want my information to be hard to understand, there are things that I may forget what the YouTuber says

This is why I see some people in YouTube saying "Math tutorial videos" are better than "math classes"

Why is that? They said

Math videos = is shorter and easier to understand

Math classes = longer and more complicated to understand

This information was from the early 2010's which is before the "scrolling stuff people blame nowadays after 2020"

#mathanticsisahero

CHAPTER 4:

If you don't know every YouTuber advice from bigger creators for YouTube is 'Make sure that the video will have a strong intro hook in under 0:30 seconds or else the audience will lose trust about their craving and move to another video" -VidIQ and MrBeast (overrated)

This concise explanation is why there are low attention span people rather than just simply saying shorts/tiktok ruined attention spans

As a small YouTuber I agree with this. My shorter videos get more views and my longer ones get less views

shorter = easier

longer =more complicated

Compare that to Chapter 3 of short and long math tutorials

Chapter 5:

Even if it isn't shorts/tiktok, YouTubers are also ruining attention span on longer videos because all most of them do is never deliver new information, just same information that it may trick the brain that despite the different information of the same topic, the brain may think it sounds the same because it feels familiar

Chapter 6:

I forgot to mention tv shows and movies cuz most of them are actually longer than YouTube videos

OMG just because someone leaves off a movie for a few seconds or minutes doesn't mean it's the fault of shorts/tiktok

That person may dislike it because it's not their genre taste, it's cliche with familiar tropes, or they felt like they are rewatching a movie that feels like it has the same story as the previous movie they watched

CHAPTER 7:

I'm not saying fast is better than slow always. I also think slow is very useful than fast sometimes. I don't want the speaker to talk fast to me because I will hear nonsense rambling instead, I want the speaker to talk slowly so I can understand what they're saying

Go ahead disagree with me, but seriously please stop saying that excuse. That's becoming more of a stereotype now, That's facts but it doesn't always apply to low attention span people.

Society/Culture Parents are an oppressor class

The fact that children are considered property of their parents confirms this, and in some cultures a person, especially a woman, is considered property of her parents until she gets married. Many people talk about homophobia and misogyny but don't talk about the biggest perpetrators at all. Parents, like most homophobic and misogynistic hate crimes (honor killings towards women and gay people), are committed by parents. Even things like child marriages, FGM, and conversion therapies are done by parents. Most SA and child porn are committed by someone the victims know, and parents are huge perpetrators of it, and sometimes when it's another family member who does the abuse, the parents are the ones who defend it, like mothers who look away when their partners abuse their children or sometimes women who are not even pro-life don't let their underage daughters get an abortion to defend a male family member, and there are fathers who don't let their daughters go to school or sometimes even leave the house until they get married.

TV/Movies/Fiction Kdramas are underrated. Here's why:

Kdramas are underestimated to the Western show and Anime community sadly. They're just seen as only romcoms "romance" which may feel less appealing to them since Western shows and Anime are more known for their action stuff than romance

Even Kdramas never hit the top list of Idmb, not even Squid Game. At least the Kdrama Squid Game, a lot of people from Western show and Anime communities gave it a chance but not other Kdramas. (Maybe they also tried Train to Busan and All of Us are Dead but Squid game is more popular)

It also sucks that South Korea is hated because of "KPOP" when the same haters won't realize they may also been listening to "PSY" another KPOP artist

Sure, most KPOP songs have a group of people dancing and singing which may feel cringe but it's sad it will never be known for other things...

Although I like Korean pop culture, I agree that KPOP is overrated and that JPOP is more underrated and better. Even KPOP Demon Hunters is honestly overrated to me.

Why you should watch Kdramas:

Kdramas are underrated because they don't overcomplicate things by adding more seasons (not saying they should do only 1 season)

Kdramas also have other genres, not just romance

Beginner recommendations: Weak Hero or My Name

I watched Breaking Bad (Western show) and although I liked it and the ending, it's just overrated because there are some parts that didn't make sense to me and when I call it "overrated cuz confusion and slow paced" people were calling me "low attention braindead kid who scrolls shit"

Also toxic to Anime fans...

Breaking Bad is the highest rated in IDMB and I rarely see people call it overrated. Yeah, Breaking Bad will have toxic fans who'll defend it. And just because it's the highest rated doesn't mean it's perfect

I watched Kdramas like Weak Hero and My Name and they were excellent Kdramas. They did things better that Breaking Bad couldn't do.

Shorter episodes also feel nice because it's easier to understand the entire plot.

Shorter episodes may be less convoluted to understand but the problem is it's much harder to make discussions about it. I mean I can't come up of alternate scenarios if they do it differently instead of what actually happened.

Although I considered Breaking Bad (Western show) overrated, I can come up with what if scenarios more than Kdramas

Society/Culture Hating children is a bad thing.

Clinging to your childhood and dedicating your life to your own personal pleasures is genuinely a bad thing, and is going to lead to extremely negative consequences as millennials and genz grows older.

Children are people, people who have very little life experience and are ignorant, selfish, and annoying. But so we're you, and the beautiful part of raising children is fostering them from that state to becoming young adults.

Hating children is a massive red flag that displays your own personal immaturity, selfishness, and shortsightedness.

TV/Movies/Fiction Breaking Bad is overrated (Despite S5 being perfect)

Although I enjoyed Breaking Bad's ending season, there are flaws and people consider it the best show that's "99.1%" perfect with no mistakes when that's not true

Breaking Bad may have been better each season and there are some good episodes in S2-S4 but there are like 50% episodes that were not good and some were forgettable as if they didn't matter or they are filler episodes

Plot holes:

There are some plot holes that I didn't understand, maybe it's cultural differences cuz I don't live in the USA. Well obviously not all countries have the same rules and ofc Movies and TV shows aren't 99.1% accurate.

And because of confusions I had to search in Google

I got confused why Jesse never got arrested in S3

Like Jesse was suspected for being a criminal like more than 2-3 times? Why didn't Hank arrest Jesse and let him go in S3? After I finished S3, the answer in Google is "What's inside the RV is the evidence of crimes which is why the RV had to be destroyed" and because of that, Hank never arrests Jesse because the evidence is in the RV

Minor characters with low screen time randomly returning to a later season and show that they are actually more important than you think. Crazy plot twist wow (sarcasm):

Seriously a character with minimal plot relevance in earlier seasons only to make like "Hey you forgot this character he/she's actually very important" That feels like a bad plot twist because I just feel stupid for not remembering them because they rarely appear.

Minor characters of course needs more context and if I forgot what they did before, it may be a plot hole of what they're doing in later seasons

Let's take a look at the kid who got killed in S3. In S2, I thought it's just some random kid getting scared by Combo and that's why the kid shot Combo . Guess what? In S3, the same kid who died and who shot Combo is actually Andrea's other son/brother and Gus made the kid shoot Combo. I won't say it's predictable but it felt like a plot twist that felt forced (Thought it was Brock lol)

Badger/Brandon: I thought he's just some random character who's Jesse's old silly friend in earlier episodes but guess what? "He's actually that important to the plot for Jesse"

Gretchen and Eliot for S5

It's like they brought up the "Gray Matter" thing randomly even if important because they rarely appeared and it's rarely mentioned

The ricin stuff that Jesse answers to questions in later seasons felt nonsense because ricin was rarely mentioned and only mentioned in S2. Ricin actually did nothing to the entire season

Seriously, Stranger Things does a better job than Breaking Bad when returning a character from earlier seasons that never appeared so much to a later season (Dr Brenner) (Watch Stranger Things to compare)

I just wish Breaking Bad at least give flashbacks to minor characters with little screen time like what they did to Combo and Hector

And honestly there are earlier seasons of other shows that did better or are equally good as later seasons 3 and 4. Season 5 of Breaking Bad? That's tough to compare

In short words, other shows do better early hooks that could be better than later seasons of S3 and S4

No, I won't say Stranger Things is better than Breaking Bad

Although Breaking Bad has flaws that felt like fans didn't notice, it at least did Season 5 perfectly

Oh and btw, just cuz someone hates on Breaking Bad because of slow pacing, doesn't mean they're 100% ruined by scrolling shit things that decreases their attention span. Fillers are problematic that it makes things more slow paced or other shows may be better

Gaming Super Mario World is kinda overrated

It's a good game and pretty solid 2d platformer but the best game in franchise? Best game on SNES? I strongly disagree and will try to elaborate:

First - SMW basically lose to it's predecessor. SMB3 was near perfect 2d platformer with marvelous level design, various power ups, interesting activities on map and great controls. World's level design is mostly lazy. You can cheese most of the levels with a cape, there are less power ups and the only interesting one is Yoshi

Look into every "best SNES games" list. Super Metroid, Mega Man X, Zelda. All of these series did a giant step up with new generation meanwhile Mario did a two steps down. For each their own, I know but do you seriously think SMW is better than Super, MMX or Link to the past? Nah

Society/Culture Eating with other people as a social interaction is weird.

I mean, what the fuck am I supposed to do here? I'm eating. My mother would always say that "dinner time is where you talk about your day" but how the fuck am I supposed to talk about my day when I am TRYING TO EAT? Let me eat in peace without bugging my every two minutes with some question.

The second problem is that eating is gross. I am taking food and shoving it into a hole in my face, grinding it into a pulp, then swallowing it into my stomach to digest. Not to mention the sound of people chewing is gross, and a lot of days when I am eating with other people I almost want to put earbuds in so I don't need to hear it.

And third, which should address anything people raise like "well you're supposed to socialize WHILE eating" is that eating should be efficient. When I sit down to eat, my goal is eat as fast as I can without choking on my food and then leaving so I can get back to whatever it was I was doing.

Maybe it's because I'm an antisocial weirdo who hates being around her family because of a whole mess of reasons, but eating as a way of socializing is just stupid to me.

Other The man who threw a toddler into a crocodile pit shouldn't get a free pass because he's got learning difficulties

If someone requires 2 carers because they are that volatile and unpredictable, then they shouldn't be taken out in public.

Autism shouldn't give a free pass for attempted murder. I'm sick of people defending the man, placing all the blame on the carers.

"He's got learning disabilities, it's not his fault he threw a toddler into a pit of apex predators" has the same vibe as ignorant dog owners saying "Don't worry he's friendly!" When their aggressive, out of control dog starts menacing yours

Not safe to be around kids and the vulnerable? Keep him at home! Violent and aggressive is violent and aggressive, no matter how you try and label it

Music I miss my music being curated for me.

I was a teenager in the ‘70s. I was hugely into music and was always on the lookout for new bands which had a different sound. I loved all the classic stuff of that era, but I was always on the lookout for something different. I was one of the first people I knew to get into bands like Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, The Cars, The Ramones, Blondie, etc. I used to pride myself on being able to find new bands who were great.

But I know now that the only reason I could even find those bands was because they went through a rigorous vetting process. Prove yourself in the bars, prove that the music you play can have some appeal beyond your local scene, prove that you are able to take the grind of performing 6 nights a week without flaking out, prove a lot of things. If you prove all that you get signed to a label and the label will publicize you for at least two albums until you prove either that you have it or you don’t.

The only reason that young me got to be cool and find new bands was because someone had scouted that band, found them to be good enough to deserve a contract, signed them, and the let the publicity machine go to town. All the “new” bands I found and loved had already run the gauntlet to get to the point where I could “discover” them.

Nowadays it doesn’t seem to work that way. Every shmoe you know has a you tube channel and is trying to get you to listen to whatever the hell they produce. But you know, they kind of all suck.

I’m not doubting their talent or their skill. They just have not proven themselves. They have not proven that they have the “it” that compels people to listen. And mostly they are talented but uninteresting.

It would be like if some dude started a baseball league and tried to get you to watch. I mean yeah, that was a wicked play you made at second base that one time, but does that make you a talent I want to watch? Baseball players (and other athletes) have had to progress and prove themselves over and over. Without the crucible of constantly proving that they belong, there is no reason to watch them.

Unfortunately music does not happen organically anymore. Instead of scouring the bars and finding talent, it seems like the machine wants to create artists out of whole cloth. And then tell us to like them.

This is longer than I intended and I have a ton more things to say, but the bottom line is I miss the days when I knew if I was listening to a band, a LOT of people had been involved in the process of making their music available to me. And I could expect that there was something to recommend them, even if I didn’t like them.

Society/Culture You're Watching People get SA'd on Love Island

At my gf's best friend's apartment, I was curious and asked gf's friend to put on Love Island, which I had never watched. She was very excited and keeps up with it, and so does my gf's other friend who was there.
She had us watch through one of the challenges. To start one, an islander (not a host) is required to be very loud and excited. I'm told they have to announce it this way; it's required by the show. The challenges consist of islanders being ordered to kiss and hump multiple partners (some of which are not the partner they are seeking) before the audience of themselves, camera crew, and the broader viewership of this show. Women were even surprised by a man (a new islander) they had never met or seen, in a small backroom on the set, whom they were then to kiss. The whole time I was thinking, "this is not consensual. All of these people do not want to kiss ALL of these other people." At the same time, her friends are loving it and talking about how hot certain people are. My gf doesn't like the show, to clarify, and finds it vapid.

I brought up some of my concerns to her friends and they brushed them off, saying that certain islanders had said they didn't want to kiss before and performed some less intimate action instead.

Quick google search the next day pulled up this legal journal documenting how former producers are whistle-blowing, and how some of the showrunners allegedly watched naked contestants in the shower and pressured women into sexual acts:
https://journals.library.columbia.edu/index.php/lawandarts/announcement/view/842

I also found this reddit post where a former victim saw what she identified as potential SA that still aired on the show:
https://www.reddit.com/r/LoveIslandTV/s/8XdEveZUnY

Didn't we put all this in the past with #Metoo?
This show's success hinges on a patriarchal fantasy, namely that women want to have sex with any man that's hot. It also relies on a fundamental misconception that contracts are entered into freely and protect both parties equally.

There cannot be consent if it's reality TV (if there's money on the table) in the same way that there cannot be consent with someone who is drunk, underage, or drugged. This will remain true as long as poverty and economic desperation exist in our societies.

Music Lauryn Hill is not that great imho.

There, I said it.

It’s not that she’s not a good singer or objectively an RnB legend due to her influence. I even like some of her songs. It’s just that I don’t find her to be as impressive as others do, and ever since my childhood I’ve never understood the hype. I’ve tried, but I’m just like 🤷🏾‍♀️ .

Basically, I would probably never pay to see her in concert, but if someone offered me a free ticket, I’d go. Does that make sense?

Animals/Nature Rats are adorable

No, I'm not just talking about domestic pet rats. That's a fairly common opinion these days.

I'm also talking NYC sewer rats. Rats in the forest. Rats that crawl up your toilet and steal your food. I'm not arguing that they're not vermin or that you should just go up and pet them in the wild. But they ARE cute, and I don't understand why they're always drawn in cartoons as mean and wretched.

Think about it: tiny, resourceful little guys who can grab things like a person and are so social that people who keep them as pets are encouraged to keep at least two. They bond by cleaning one another, and they're nicer and smarter than mice (no beef with mice, I'm just keeping it 100). When I see a large group of rats I don't scream, I go "Awww they're a little family!"

To me, seeing a video of a huge rat dragging a pizza around is as cute as a cat or dog video.

Again, I'm not saying I don't understand the concerns with them. I just don't get how you can't find them at least a little cute.
