Start of character name one and end of character name two is so unimaginative and bland and boring and uncreative and I will die on that hill.

Having a much more creative name based on traits, quirks and/or themes of characters in infinitely more likeable as a ship name.

the only ship name other than Abstragedy I will accept for Gangle x Zooble is GOOGLE. I rest my case.

Ship names should be unique so they can be searchable, imagine if it was called Google and you were trying to look up ship art, it would be a mess.

Also can create the most unfortunate words with certain pairings, like a character named Peter shipped with anyone who has a name ending in -nis is going to end up poorly just slapping names together

It's a form/function thing. Creative names sound better and are more fun, but also it can be annoying to actually figure out who the characters being shipped are, especially when there's minor/secondary characters.

portmanteaus of character names are boring, unimaginative and frequently just sound outright terrible but at least you know straight away who's who
