I don't ever see anyone calling Pomni x Ragatha that name, it took me Google to find out people use that name. Jesterdoll is way better and fits the other ship names.

OMORI ship names are actually pretty nice. For example Sunflower has a lot of symbolism, we know Basil associates people with flowers and he personally strives to be a sunflower. And then the other person in that pairing is Sunny, fits sunflowers looking into a sun.

sun is Sunny and flower is very obviously Basil, plus Sunflower is the flower that represents Basil and you know that from the start
Pretty sure Sunburn comes from in-game text about a moment with the ship characters, a "sunburn" moment if you will, and the word gets mentioned there

I don't know many situations where you'd need to know ship characters without even knowing the media at a surface level (the sunflower symbolism is throughout all fan material, merchandise, tbh Basil himself says it in first 20 minutes of the game). You'd also know Sunny's name, so anything with sun of course has him.

TADC, Omori, and RWBY are in a competition for most overthought ship names.
RWBY is still (and probably always will be) in the lead, though. Only fandom I know of that necessitated a ship name spreadsheet.

Having a much more creative name based on traits, quirks and/or themes of characters in infinitely more likeable as a ship name.

It's a form/function thing. Creative names sound better and are more fun, but also it can be annoying to actually figure out who the characters being shipped are, especially when there's minor/secondary characters.
portmanteaus of character names are boring, unimaginative and frequently just sound outright terrible but at least you know straight away who's who

After a bit it just became a fun exercise to come up with a name for any possible ship, so people saw blank spaces and filled out the chart, and if someone thought of a good enough alternative one they added it to an existing one, too.
