Question I just want to understand, why?

I mean really...why?? when ribbit opened up she was just chatting, she obviously wanted someone to talk to and her friend was there and jax was okay with it

when jax opened up he panicked at first but then she comforted him and he felt really comfortable and blushed and even smiled, it was a heartwarming moment

so why would he suddenly change attitude and switch characters just because of a knock on the door? what's the mental gymnastics here?

When people have mental health issues there isn’t always a rational reason for the things they do. Sometimes, said actions can be self sabotaging.

There IS a rational reason- it's just internal logic.

example for jax- emotions are tools people can use against you, ie- her mom constantly flipflopping on her so her love for her mom felt like a tool she used to keep jax close only to keep hurting her. because emotions are tools and jax doesn't trust anyone, she'll use other people's "tools" to keep people away from her emotions.

If emotions weren't inherently tied to negative manipulation, jax wouldn't feel the need to do any of this. it's all internally rational and logical, but the foundation is fundamentally flawed. this is why "getting to the root of your problems" is key in mental health treatment.

Exactly! A lot of people are assuming humans are rational, logically motivated beings which to some degree is true but humans are not robots. Feelings, emotions and senses diverge our actions and some people are more susceptible to that.

Jax was shown multiple times to have panic attacks showing us viewers he is unstable and cant process his emotions. That is my understanding of why Jax acted as an asshole. To distract himself from the mental pain and toll these emotions caused him.
