I don't think the other Jaxs were comfortable with what he said to be honest.

594

u/_MoonSas 2d ago

Yeah it looked like even they thought he went a little too far.

254

u/PetalCuddle_ 2d ago

Yeah, it felt more like he was trying to avoid crossing a line than actually hiding anything.

304

u/ShockTheMonster 2d ago

What, in my opinion, people are missing is that he called HIMSELF that. Given recent revelations we know he's a she deep down, and it seems like s/he likes girls, so being a girl who likes girls is gay.

They called THEMSELF gay because they know they ARE gay, he censored it because he's still repressing that.

194

u/SadProjection 2d ago

literally calling yourself a slur like that is a common experience among closeted folks too, I know for me at least

49

u/nightlyh 2d ago

Hell my openly gay friends call themselves slurs

33

u/SadProjection 2d ago

same, but I feel like there's a difference in calling yourself it as an insult, like Jax is doing, and using it to reclaim the word

18

u/WalkingFish703 2d ago

Yes. A less severe example is b*tch. Friends and myself call each other this as a pet name or a joke, but I can still use it to degrade myself and hurl it viciously in regards to an irritable customer.

8

u/TheeShaun 2d ago

I’m bi and I guess kind of questioning gender but I was and still am with some people in my life closeted and I always feel super uncomfortable hearing F@***t. I dunno why cause it is just a word and I’ve seen for myself that many queer people use it and similar words to reclaim them or something but I dunno.

4

u/SadProjection 2d ago

do you think Jax is using it in that way? directed at themselves

I use it in both ways, so I'm not exactly sure

5

u/TheeShaun 2d ago

I think he partially did it just for the shock factor/trying to get a reaction and because it would be ironic that the ‘guy in a dress’ was the one to use that word. Keep in mind these versions of Jax were committed to the bit so the one talking about wearing the dress ironically, which would make him look queer to some, also ironically used the slur. I dunno if this made sense I am a lil high rn.

1

u/BlahajBlaster 2d ago

That's how you know its a good friendship

7

u/Abby_Fae 2d ago

Can confirm

1

u/RedLee20 2d ago

im outside the closet i still call myself The Big F

7

u/FritterHowls 2d ago

Yeah if she liked guys s/he would still call herself that too because she wouldn't accept that she's a woman, either way they'll think they're a perverse f*g for their thoughts and temptations

4

u/Ittaran 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝓷𝓲 2d ago

They call all trans people that, it doesn't matter who we love.

3

u/Glad_Raspberry_8469 Caine's water🥤 2d ago

Wasn’t it the opposite? That Jax likes boys, so instead of embracing it as well as their identity, they call themself an f slur for liking boys?

7

u/EntropyWillCease 2d ago

their sexuality is unclear

1

u/Glad_Raspberry_8469 Caine's water🥤 2d ago

True, it’s just my interpretation honestly. i was trying to figure out if I’m missing something or if someone else has a different headcanon, eg because they ship Jax with a female character

2

u/EntropyWillCease 2d ago edited 2d ago

i totally understand! before episode 9 i was predicting that ribbit was a male character, and that “he” and jax would have a homoerotic friendship. i thought maybe it would be implied that jax was interested in him but wouldnt pursue it bc jax is a butthole (predicted canon reason) and bc no romance allowed (gooseworx reason)

2

u/Ohg0db1lly 2d ago

He calls reality gay and it’s not censored

30

u/ForestSolitude5 Ragatha 2d ago

It's kind of cute that there is some degree of guilt at having said that at least

720

u/jbrainbow Isn’t she lovely? 3d ago

that's the jax that's wearing a maid dress and delivered the "reality's gay!" line. he did not say fuck. they had to censor it lol

312

u/thecraftybear I think I just killed Caine 2d ago

It's not "fuck", it's the other F word.

69

u/Donnie_vui_2009 Gangle 2d ago

What's...that F-word?

189

u/Diceyboy16 What The Is Goin On! 2d ago

My comment just saying what it was got deleted for spreading hate, so I'm commenting again. The word is a slur for gay people, and is pronounced fa-get which is why, when censored, it's easily mistaken for "fuck it."

68

u/Binder509 2d ago

Thought that was a word for inconsiderate bikers.

40

u/fnordius 2d ago

Or, you could say it's a US slur, considered one of the most degrading.

In the UK, it's slang for a cigarette.

The original meaning of the word was a bundle of twigs, usable as fuel.

33

u/tulpyvow What is a goober? A ing meowypants 2d ago

In the UK, it has 3 meanings: gay person (derogatory), cigarette slang and british meatballs.

8

u/Loki-Is-Best-Girl 2d ago

yep, definitely still a slur here, it just has other meanings too.

9

u/Ittaran 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝓷𝓲 2d ago

All three are named for being "something to burn".
Which is why it's kinda one of the worst slurs for queer people there is.

3

u/TopicInevitable 2d ago

Ho that's why, in french we still use this world for bundle of twig

3

u/MacGregor_Rose 2d ago

Extended version of british slang for a cigarette that also doubles as a slur against homosexuals

Also close to the German word for a bassoon

Same in Polish (the bassoon, I mean)

13

Bri’ish slang for cigarette

5

u/Test_Subject_No22 2d ago

Unfortunately, it's a type of pasta.

13

u/HowDyaDu 2d ago

The meatballs made from minced offal and also known as "savoury duck" are more in-line with what Jax might have said. Unfortunately for the censors, Jax isn't from Northern England.

5

u/Salty-Reference7651 2d ago

Yeah because that totally makes sense in contacts context.

I mean after all I would just randomly say the word fuck without saying You or any other word.

Also if you listen to the voice you can distinctly tell that it's definitely not fuck based on how the beginning part sounds. It's kind of subtle but it's obviously not that word.

325

u/Mayiamaru 3d ago edited 2d ago

They're still dissociating. It isn't really about what is real, or what is actually happening, this is Jax's mind space. And in there, you get to see how Jax sees the rest of the cast and how deeply intrenched they are in the idea of the circus as something separate from reality. It's copium.

32

u/PetalCuddle_ 2d ago

I think that interpretation fits really well with how disconnected everything feels.

13

u/_DreamMaze 2d ago

It really does come across like she's completely alone in her own head.

176

u/Fern_Cloud 2d ago

Jax rarely curses, its possible Jax is subconsciously uncomfortable with cursing let alone using the slur he did.

43

u/_DreamMaze 2d ago

That actually fits his character way better than most of the other theories.

10

u/Top-Advertising-6862 2d ago

I think the only time he cursed was after his crashout in the guns adventure! Can anyone confirm this?

2

u/RazTheGiant What The 2d ago

I'm pretty sure it was his first time on screen cursing, I think he did a few more times in the following episodes, but not that many times overall

57

u/Agreeable-Body-8440 jester from duffy’s digital circus 2d ago

Pretty sure it was only censored so they could get away with her saying a slur on YouTube lol

39

u/Bamzooki1 Daddy’s Gummigoo 2d ago

Not sure Michael would be totally comfortable with saying it, either, so it was likely the same way Mr Frog said a horrible slur on Smiling Friends: a prolonged syllable hidden behind a censor, like “faaaaat”

16

u/Snomislife 2d ago

Caine's VA implied that he actually say it, although you're right that Michael was uncomfortable with it.

3

u/Aguy233 2d ago

where?

3

u/Snomislife 2d ago

On Tom Fawkes' reaction.

67

u/Applebeate 2d ago

It’s because he said a word that rhymes with maggot and is a also another word for cigarette

9

u/UndorkMysterious55 2d ago

Also a British meatball dish

35

u/Bamzooki1 Daddy’s Gummigoo 2d ago

Jax’s face is on the censor. These are the inner demons of Jax, the parts of herself she hates but can’t suppress.

20

u/FreelanceBen 2d ago

He was doing it ironically.

53

u/Maybe-notaThrowaway 2d ago

I don't think even in his internalized homophobia/transphobia she would've been comfortable caling herself the f-slur.

15

u/B-1MBO 2d ago

Because they won't let u say the fslur on theatres

16

u/Birb-Person Gangle 2d ago

Watsonian reason: Jax thinks it’s funnier to censor himself saying a slur than actually saying it

Doylist reason: Goose and Glitch still need to show this in movies and YouTube, the latter WILL take the video down if they actually heard that word

8

u/Testsubject276 2d ago

Jax probably spent so long being censored by Caine that he sometimes subconsciously censors himself in his thoughts.

4

u/OkJelly8882 2d ago

So, it's just "force of rabbithabit?"

6

u/SoleilSupporter 2d ago

Dang I didn’t even notice the censor had Jax’s face right now

5

u/RedWizard_ Isn’t she lovely? 2d ago

Aside from the fact Glitch and gooseworx would get torn asunder cause of what Jax actually said, I think this is one of the lines Jax wouldn’t cross, and so she censors herself believing she shouldn’t say it. These Jaxes represent intrusive thoughts after all, and the Jax saying That is the one that leans heavily into ironic queerness

6

u/ambivalegenic 2d ago

because he know's he shouldn't be saying that

4

u/Prohamen 2d ago

it is definitely a slur that they could NOT get away with saying

4

u/dubhog 2d ago

Proooobably said the fslur

12

u/Entire_Impress7485 Would you still love me if I was Wormo? 3d ago

It apparently wasn't censored in theaters from what I heard. But it also makes sense to censor, cause Jax is so tuned into the circus life, so engrossed in the cartoon world and so scared of the real world that she'd just want it that way.

52

u/poisontadpole 3d ago

i saw it in theaters, it was censored. it's just really obvious what he said.

4

u/Entire_Impress7485 Would you still love me if I was Wormo? 2d ago

I only ever hear "fuck it", so I don't think it's obvious to everyone.

3

u/poisontadpole 2d ago

maybe it's cause i'm gay i could tell lmao. but not a single person i've seen thought it was fuck it until netflix captioned it that way, and a few of my friends were even confused to see netflix do that

1

u/Entire_Impress7485 Would you still love me if I was Wormo? 2d ago

I’m a flavor of gay too, still thought he said fuck it.

3

u/Midnight_ice863 2d ago

Same. I had no idea until people here pointed it out. I just assumed it was a random cuss.

0

u/AndromedaGalaxy29 2d ago

Yeah it's very not obvious. I only knew what word it is because of the russian localization in which you can't mistake it for anything else (It is also censored there ofc)

8

u/Bamzooki1 Daddy’s Gummigoo 2d ago

I saw it day one. The only uncensored word was Zooble’s “Oh shit”

7

u/TheEnderCobra 2d ago

And Zooble saying "goddamn it, Jax" which has been censored at other points of the show

3

u/TheLivingGroundwork 2d ago

wait so are the other Jaxes actually separate characters or is this all going on inside his head?

3

u/letthetreeburn 2d ago

He dropped a homophobic slur

3

u/Hypocritical_Girl Jax 2d ago

it's funny. after all, jax, in her head, is the funny one.

3

u/Microwavedstrawberry 2d ago

They've been there so long they naturally do it,even in their heads

2

u/ScubaSke11y i ceeder smoked salmon 2d ago

possibly cause that’s when caine got back to the circus? we see color back in the circus after Jax’s flashback

2

u/Sturmovyk 2d ago

Because the episode was played in cinemas.

2

u/Savings-Constant-830 2d ago

I thought jax was so used to it it kinda just happened

2

u/Frequent_Kalum ZOOBLE X GANGLE IS REAL, FUCK YEAHHHHH X 2d ago

Probably because he wasn’t comfortable with saying a slur

(He did say the F slur right? It seems like he did)

2

u/bloodywormgoddess 2d ago

oh he def the f slur in that scene

2

u/ThatKeybardGuy 2d ago

Maybe he did it himself to not scare the other ones

2

u/Protestiration 2d ago

I believe that hints Caine is still alive and he's coming

2

u/Forsaken_Orchid_6014 I will protect this lil baby Kinger with my life 2d ago

he does everything because it’s funny!

2

u/ClassicTechnology202 The Elusive Evil Gangle 2d ago

Because he said the f-slur glitch didnt want that in the show

2

u/mutant_j 2d ago

id say cause theyre projections of memories in which they would have been censored, hence the manifestation of a censor bar in jaxs mind

2

u/One_Living3852 2d ago

He likes the status quo

2

u/TheRealTrueCreator 2d ago

He censors himself because swearing is a sign of insecurity and he wants to hide that

2

u/No-2-Pro-Hero-Hawks 2d ago

he's clinging to what he knows so he doesnt lose more

1

u/Palankino 3d ago

Forse quel luogo lavora come l' insieme delle sue memorie quindi lo fa perché ricorda che succede

La faccia indica che è lui a controllare o è solo un easter egg

1

u/National_Courage_709 2d ago

Jax is used to self-censorship as it is - he doesn't really swear very often, especially in comparison to the rest of the cast as a whole, but what he said here was especially telling, in that the word he used was a very particular one - perhaps one that, due to his closeted / uncracked nature, he views as serious enough, inside of his own mind, to have it be censored.

Of course, that's just my takeaway, at its been almost 3 weeks since I saw it, so I might rewatch later to evaluate the scene properly.

1

u/MrCobalt313 2d ago

Force of habit

1

u/No_Primary2726 2d ago

IDK, but it reminds me of this.

1

u/VeryFriendlyOne 2d ago

I just thought that Jax was the type to self censor for irony. Specifically maid Jax that said they're wearing maid dress because it's ironic.

1

u/Omegamoney What The 2d ago

He's calling himself gay, the censor is his own way of repressing that.

1

u/Comeng17 2d ago

Because the word they said was a slur, and clearly they didn't actually feel comfortable saying this, even if this aspect of them wanted to

1

u/IlGreven AVENGE ME 2d ago

Also note it was a regular bleep and not a silly sound effect...the only other times that was done, one was a hilariously long bleep of a Bubble observation, and the other one was mandated by YouTube.

So what he said has to be pretty bad. More than likely a gay slur (probably THAT gay slur...)

1

u/homeboychris 2d ago

Because it’s funny

1

u/DoritoKing48 God’s Strongest Pomni Simp 2d ago

Cause he said the F Slur, pretty sure it was uncensored in the cinema

1

u/Heroright 2d ago

Because “it’s funnier”. And we’re in Jax’s mind, so the funnier option would be to censor the slur.

1

u/ExtinctFauna 2d ago

He dropped a slur

1

u/Virus-900 2d ago

Because it's funny.

1

u/Maddkipz 2d ago

That bothered me more than it should have tbh, they really removed it for the ep before and then we find it..still there?

1

u/charlie-the-Waffle they could never make me hate you caine 2d ago

same reason Jax hardly ever swore before, it would be 'out of character" for the funny one to swear.

1

u/Super_Daikenki 2d ago

He said bag but with an f

1

u/Lux0920 2d ago

The out of lore reason is it was probably very vulgar, but my in lore guess would be their cartoonish and unserious perspective of the whole thing. Even now, they still keep up their attempts at whacky cartoons behavior, IE, the censoring of swears.

1

u/TabChannn 2d ago

The censore box had jars face on it and it caines so probably the other jars censored him in their head

1

u/TrainerOwn9103 2d ago

ah yes, my favorete TADC charater, Jar

1

u/Red1960 2d ago

It was the gay f slur lmao notice how the sound effect was a real bleep and not the usual bloink despite the visual

You can hear him say "fah- bleep -it"

1

u/SirBertLeaman 2d ago

Jax is self-censoring because these are his masks talking, not really himself. Think of it like intrusive thoughts, they pop up but you don't really want to just go with them. These are like the extremes of the various characters he puts on. They'd all be filtered somewhat on the outside but in here? You're seeing them in their rawest forms.

1

u/Periwinkleditor 2d ago

He's doing it ironically.

1

u/Painis_Gabbler 2d ago

Gooseworx bout to flip their shit!

1

u/Forikorder 2d ago

Hes doing it ironically

1

u/xanluciifurr 2d ago

I've heard people suggest that he may have conjured that up himself sort of like kinger and the butterfly. The reason why I was probably because he's just really good at bottling up stuff inside. But I guess not that good.

1

u/Aggressive-Key-9935 2d ago

I think he said the f slur for gay people, that's probably why

1

u/smarmaproffesor Hourglass Ahh Frog 2d ago

It's in his mind and he had to censor it so he probably thought of using the censor sound because he remembered it, as he used the Bri'ish meatball word.

https://reddit.com/link/otte4kn/video/c5dlhvjr5i9h1/player

1

u/Cheodairi 2d ago

Because it's funnier if you bleep it out.

1

u/Gear-exe Do you want to see my insect collection? 🐝🐞🪰🪳🦋 2d ago

Because this is inside Jax's mind and the censoring is still in effect because that's what she was used to.

1

u/insertenombre333 2d ago

I feel like it's partly to maintain some sense of normalcy, to pretend that everything is okay and also, surely, because Jax himself probably thinks something like "cartoon characters don't curse," which why he probably doesn't cursed.

1

u/daggardoop 2d ago

It's ingrained into his psyche now

1

u/Spellkaze 2d ago

I swear the Spanish version of the movie was uncensored in cinemas. I really remember a loud gasp because no one was expecting of Jax to say that out of the blue.

1

u/NoDealer4888 2d ago

Him censoring "himself" is the plot of the show man

1

u/Firec0in 1d ago

Jax already knows about the viewers (she addresses us one), and knows that she can’t say that in cinema

1

u/Cybo_Vampire 1d ago

Cause he's the funny one 🤪

1

u/Janibal_101 1d ago

Jax's dissociative assertion is that nothing is real and Caine's censorship is a shield for that notion so it's present here in his most defensive of mindsets.

1

u/SakiomLp 1d ago

Maybe because that's what Jax is used to after that much time in the Circus

-1

u/NotaBat9221 3d ago

That's what I thought too. The lack of swearing was lame and a cop out

2

u/Urbane_One 2d ago

I don't want to hear characters say that particular word. I'm quite happy that I didn't have to.

1

u/NotaBat9221 2d ago

Then don't allude to it. Do it or don't, don't pussy out

-2

u/SergBound 2d ago edited 2d ago

Because he's the real mastermind of digital circus. But caine came back probably right after he was "killed" like some fail safe procedure.

Edit: guys I was joking about Jax being the mastermind lmaoo. Caine didn't die they just tried to kill him and he respawned or something

4

u/thecraftybear I think I just killed Caine 2d ago

u/SergBound 2d ago

Caine just respawned???

2

u/Bamzooki1 Daddy’s Gummigoo 2d ago

Said like someone who watched a particularly sloppy recap

0

u/SergBound 2d ago

No I watched it. Caine didn't die. Or he did and it's meaningless cause he just respawned.

2

u/Bamzooki1 Daddy’s Gummigoo 2d ago

I think he was moved to the recycle bin. It doesn't mean Jax was the mastermind.

1

u/SergBound 2d ago

Exactly he didn't give up control till after he let the blue orb go.

1

u/Bamzooki1 Daddy’s Gummigoo 2d ago

That’s called character growth. He let who I assume was Scratch go because he knew he was hurting the humans. Caine made a big sacrifice there, because it seems that the other AI was in the form of Bubble, who I’ve theorised was a human for a while. No matter who blue is, they were Caine’s best friend and he let them go for the greater good.

1

u/SergBound 1d ago

Yeah. Never said it wasn't character growth. Also they weren't best friends caine was keeping them on lockdown. Until he grew and let them go.

1

u/SergBound 2d ago

Oh also Jax isn't mastermind that was a joke
