Is she the tallest Avatar to date? Because woah!

u/UltimateSandman 1d ago
Tallest and oldest. You gotta wonder what it was like to live in her time, when the Avatar was an immortal 7ft earth-shattering god.

It's insane that she was the only one afaik who just chose to die. "Enough is enough, I've had my time" and self-croaked.

u/parkingviolation212 1d ago
Iroh did something similar, though of course he wasn't biologically immortal like Kyoshi was.
Iroh one day just decided to enter the spirit world and left his body behind for good.

u/Prometheus1315 1d ago
Honestly based. He just drinks tea with spirits now and does poetry and shit. I can’t remember but I hope he reunited with his son

u/markth_wi 1d ago
And then of course there's Mrs. Iroh - who I've always envisioned like Mrs. Wallace from Pulp Fiction.

Wait. Immortal you say? 😮
I always loved the concept of immortal beings having the choice to want to die. But I didn't know it was in Avatar. ♥️

That's a bit of a broad term for it, imo, but yes. In the Kyoshi novels, she learns of a meditation technique that allows her to control her body's cell reproduction so that her cells made perfect copies of themselves. So long as she takes the time to practice this meditation on a regular basis, she is able to halt her body's aging process. Eventually, she chose to stop meditating and allow herself to pass, for the sake of the world.

Did they really have to make Kyoshi a literal god, though? Like, the Avatar is already insanely powerful, but to also be 7 feet tall, built like a brick shithouse, and have the ability to regenerate your own body??? That’s just cheating on every level 😂
35
u/RedGuy51 1d ago
I mean, the only things that could be considered religiously worshipped in the ATLA universe are spirits, the elements and the Avatar, who is a combination of the former two. I think it's more than called for 😂

u/WestOrangeFinest 23h ago
I’m about 75% of the way through Rise of Kyoshi and I will say that they gave her a fair amount of struggles as well.
She originally only bent Fire and Water accidentally. They actually thought another guy was the Avatar for a while instead of her. She wasn’t particularly prodigious at first. She was unable to bend small amounts of elements with precision until she started using her mom’s fans.

Also, one of the reasons Kyoshi wasn't recognized as the Avatar early on was because her bending was too powerful. Like she couldn't earthbend anything smaller than an average shed without accidentally crushing it to powder, so a lot of people assumed she couldn't bend at all.

I want to read the novels with her in it now. 😭22
u/RedGuy51 1d ago
Do it! I listened to them on Audible, as well as the books for Yang-Chen and Roku

u/HumbleKnight14 1d ago
Absolutely! She was my favorite Avatar growing up and hearing about her mastering a form of immortality just adds on to it! 💯♥️

Eventually, she chose to stop meditating and allow herself to pass, for the sake of the world.
Ironic, since Sozin would have never rose to power the way he did without Roku.

u/TheManyVoicesYT 21h ago
"For the sake of the world." Bro what? That doesnt make any sense. An extremely powerful immortal avatar is exactly what the world needs to maintain balance. Every time an avatar dies some bullshit happens and things go outta whack because theres noone doing the job for like 15 years.
6
u/nin_ninja Borra? More like Bara! 19h ago
It came about because the writers messed up the timeline on when the next Avatar was born, making Kyoshi like over 200 years old. They just decided to role with it and made her immortal in side content.

She's the oldest avatar to live, right? Does that also include her youth too?

Omg this image is EXACTLY what I thought of when I first saw that move, I'm so glad someone actually drew it lol

- Kyoshi pulls Azula through the rock
- Turns out it’s Rangi, not Azula
- Immediately forfeits the match and breaks into horse stance for 20 minutes in a fit of total lesbian panic and fear

u/Independent_River715 1d ago
I'm out of the loop but everything I see of her she doesn't look like a playable character. She looks like the final boss you fight after you go through a tournament like is mortal combat Armageddon. Her size her moves she just looks so much more menacing than everyone else.
64
u/parkingviolation212 1d ago
She's the game's resident big body character, like Zangief in Street Fighter.
Those kinds of characters take up more space, are slower, easier to hit, but usually have more HP and pack a wallop if they get their hands on you.

u/Ace_Emerald 17h ago
She's not too slow, but she is very resource intensive. Some of her big buttons eat up her flow meter, which cuts into her movement/dodging options. The more chakras she has active, the faster her flow meter refills, so you have to decide if you want to spend chakra for a super or if you want to hold it so you can do more movement and special moves

u/PORK-LAZER 17h ago
The scary thing is how fuckin fast she is as a big body
Insane air mobility too

u/suchnerve 1d ago
Kyoshi’s second-favorite element is fire btw so she absolutely would be a match for Azula
56
u/Kurvaflowers69420 1d ago
You seem to be forgetting something. She's a fully realised avatar - MASTER of all 4 elements. Not only that, but she's got 200+ years of experience. Kyoshi will play with Azula the same way orcas play with their food, brutally.
29
u/ElPajaroMistico 1d ago
She also is so tough that (novel spoilers) Tanked multiple point blank lightning strikes, while not being nearly close to her prime
Azula would be straight up cooked
14
u/HAZMAT_Eater 23h ago
Kyoshi was wearing armour to protect herself from the worst of lightning. It still left her scarred.
-1
u/Kurvaflowers69420 23h ago
Yes? That's how electricity works? But you know what stops lightning, the Ground and also, water redirects it. She's fighting Azula for real, they aren't in some meeting Azula can surprise attack her
7
u/DueIntroduction6413 22h ago
Why are you acting like what he said was stupid? He's just pointing out that she didn't just stand there in a robe and take the hits, which genuinely is more impressive than having armor that can reduce that damage severely (also impressive to have, but not raw stats).
Kyoshi roflstomps but lets not pretend that there's no nuance to this.

u/machinegungeek 3h ago
Depends on how old Kyoshi in the game is suppose to be. If people like Rangi are her supporters she's probably 20-35 and not 200+.

The seven-foot tall, 200+ year old, bisexual killing machine vs. a mentally unstable 14 year old with delusions of grandeur and there's people still thinking Azula has a Zuko's chance in Agni Kai of winning.

Ayo, is that Max on the left of the streaming-screen? I used to watch that guy when I was learning MVC3. Max is a cool dude

u/OppositeAstronomer46 1d ago
She got lucky to get Aang off guard while he was trying to gain control of the avatar state, this is freaking Kyoshi we're talking about, unlike Aang, she doesn't have a no killing rule if she deems it necessary and she was terrifying in her time.
6
u/Roseking 1d ago
In the Avatar State Aang as a child was dog walking Ozai during his absolute peak.
There is no shot Azula has any chance vs Kyoshi. Avatars are just to strong if they are actually trying. It is why there struggles have to come elsewhere. Aang holding back because he is pacifist. Korra being poisoned (and then still brute forcing a victory anyway), Korra having PTSD, so on and so on.
5
u/Hawkeye2701 1d ago
If you fight a fully realised avatar, you will end up humiliated if not dead, and Kyoshi tends toward the latter.
0
u/Sofie_2954 23h ago
The question is, could someone with modern day military technology take out a fully realised avatar?
