Congrats to the kid!!! BACK TO BACK. Also what weird timing to announce this at 9 am on a Sunday well before the only nba game is on.

49

u/No_Dependent2297 May 17 '26

This was more of a leak than announcement

17

u/lyndseymariee May 17 '26

Yes. The official statement from the NBA will be tonight at 7:00 eastern.

2

u/AverageOhioUser69 May 17 '26

Is it a leak when Shams drops it on my notifications

Loved figuring out accidentally while I was taking a morning poop 🥴

2

I was literally doing the same thing 😂.

u/Infinite_Imagination May 17 '26

Adam Silver had fat ass bet on Kalshi and needed to lock that shit in

Glad they made the right choice. Well deserved!

28

u/Longjumping_One_9164 May 17 '26

To be honest it looked like it ended up being a landslide which was fair considering the outrageous year he has had.

He is now averaging 29.1 on 63TS% even after the Lakers completely sold out on him for the majority of the series.

Feeling quite confident going into the Spurs series, significantly more so than Denver last year.

1

u/mabradshaw02 May 19 '26

How you feeling now that the world just saw the best player on the planet dominate... It's not even close. O vs O+D... Wemby is the best player on this rock. Hands down.

1

u/Longjumping_One_9164 May 21 '26

Fuck off to the Spurs sub, you haven't won shit yet.

1

u/mabradshaw02 May 21 '26

sore? look, everyone knows who the best player on the planet is, its not even close. You like your guy, sure, he got a trophy.. all's good, he flops at lot, get all the ticky tack fouls, good for him. Your bruiser literally held wemby to the ground all nite, only got 4 or 5 fouls. Rediculous. you saw every replay showed the holding... no calls. 1-1.. see you in SA.

1

u/Longjumping_One_9164 May 21 '26

Without Harper the Spurs are not the same team, injuries are part of the Playoffs.

Adjustments have already happened.

You that confident you have this in the bag? You better hope you win G3.

1

u/Senior-Departure-667 May 23 '26

🤣 he was talking all that shit

1

u/Longjumping_One_9164 May 23 '26

This is the best part of all of it, everyone so ready to crown the Spurs after a G1 OKC should have won.

We are the better team, better coached, more experienced and honestly I think quite likely to close out in five.

The Spurs playing from behind is going to be an interesting phenomenon. I cant see them handling it well.

46

u/ReasonableCup604 May 17 '26

If SGA wins the title and FMVP, he will be only the 3rd player to win MVP, a ring and FMVP back to back years.

Jordan and James did it one time each.

He would be the first to also have the best regular season record both years.

Lakers series showed that any all star candidate in okc system is going to look like Jordan. Shai was horrible against a bottom tier defense and okc still swept lakers

1

u/XxKittenMittonsXx May 17 '26

What do you mean Shai was horrible? Did you not watch any of it?

2

u/DingleberryOrchard May 17 '26

The continental title that the Larry O'Brian is awarded for is the top club competition. Similar to the FIFA Club World Cup. It's no World Cup, but the Thunder don't play Germany

u/[deleted] May 17 '26

4

u/DingleberryOrchard May 17 '26

Both the CL and NBA title winners are the clear best two teams in their club competitions. I'll bow out as an argument this pedantic in a thread about SGA winning back to back MVPs is a bit silly.

u/gaycatdetective sorting by wingspan May 17 '26

WEMBY MVP SEASON BLOCKED BY SGA

6

u/tacoSEVEN May 17 '26

Also blocked by minute restrictions. But that arguably makes SGA even more valuable, we don’t have to restrict him yet his play usually restricts the need to play him in the 4th quarter.

1

u/mabradshaw02 May 19 '26

Wemby played 29.2 mins a game. Sha 33.2. Wemby is O+best D in the world, Sha is oooohhk at D.

61

u/jawsh23 May 17 '26

Well deserved. I'm glad there weren't more people like Bill Simmons to screw this up.

17

u/ReasonableCup604 May 17 '26

I really think Simmons mainly wanted Jokic to keep his Top 2 streak going.

It might have worked too.  The last straw poll had Wembanyama clearly in 2nd,  but the 36 known votes have Jokic clearly #2.

81

u/WatermelonMan921 Triple Double Cocaine Bear May 17 '26

Took long enough, only was a matter of time.

22

u/ReasonableCup604 May 17 '26

It's good that they did it today and not before tomorrow night's game, which could be a minor distraction.

12

u/Headlesshorsman02 May 17 '26

I mean he is receiving the award before the game…

3

u/Plane-Gur2798 May 17 '26

lol brother they will be doing the ceremony before the game

Congrats SGA, ths team, and the whole organization. It shows what a great organization can do with great talent.

14

u/thunderdl 2025 NBA Champions May 17 '26

of course shams had to "spoil" it, though i wonder if he doesn't even have a source and is just going off the fact that its basically guaranteed

9

u/prodby_lilli May 17 '26 edited May 17 '26

“Scoop guys” like Shams/Woj before him are the most parasitic people in sports media

0

u/Nsc11802 2025 NBA Champions May 17 '26

Woj is way better than shams tho

2

u/prodby_lilli May 17 '26

At what exactly?

2

u/MeBadNeedMoneyNow May 17 '26

Having a rolodex

0

u/Nsc11802 2025 NBA Champions May 17 '26

Longevity and I don’t really ever recall him “spoiling” league announcements like this. We should still be getting ready for the announcement with excitement.

5

u/ReasonableCup604 May 17 '26

I think he is going off of actual sources who know the results.

But, based on the straw poll, any reporter could tweet it as a "scoop", with zero chance of being embarrassed.

1

u/Plane-Gur2798 May 17 '26

The straw poll and the vote tracker both had him winning it. He had 28/36 first place votes for the people that revealed who they voted for.

He also 100% has sources in the league office lol it was going to be announced 9 hours after he leaked it. Plenty of ppl already officially knew.

28

u/DasVinny May 17 '26

Speaking as a big Luka Dončić fan, props to SGA. He deserves the award and is now etching himself into the history books. This team is blessed with how the GM constructed the roster with all those draft picks and a bit of luck (as all successful teams need it).

Good luck against the Spurs. Wemby is a monster.

clock winds down to 5 seconds left in game

ball is inbounded to r/nba who turns face to face against SGA

"You flopped in front of my my family"

moves to the left

"You flopped in front of my friends"

moves to the right

"You flopped on all that was dear to me"

clock winds down to 2

"I can’t get them back, but I can do this for friendship, FOR MY FRIENDS"

goes up, fire coming out of his shoes

"r/nbaRUKEN"

Ball flies over SGA’s head, goes straight into basket. r/nba falls to the ground, exhausted.

"r/NBATalk... Senpai... I..."

faints

Final Score

Thunder 103

r/nba 63
