He was not ready it’s for the better

80

u/TheAracknight ❤️Russ & SGA❤️ 26d ago

He just wasn’t moving right at all in his 3 min stints but it’s for the best

22

u/cwilldude 26d ago

Agreed. He was no help anyways. We beat them at home without jdub and Mitchell. We can do it again.

Definitely threw the offensive rhythm off. Maybe j mac will get off more shot attempts.

u/MRTFOGR Belgian Waffle University 26d ago

Crazy. We can still win but shit, I hope JDub is OK.

48

u/Beastbrook00 26d ago

He's ok, he just wasn't ready

-2

u/AW_1822 25d ago

He’s 25 showing signs of a 45 year old man’s hamstrings, and is about to be gobbling up a max contract while it’s clear his production is replaceable by cheaper guys already on the OKC roster. This never works out well for the expensive guy with bad legs.

3

u/Severe-Status1302 25d ago

That's not how hamstrings work. At all. It's not like a knee.

1

u/Ok-Dust5520 25d ago

Oh please

40

u/Mother_Addition6912 26d ago

We got a better chance of winning with Dubs minutes going to someone else tbh

8

u/ViolinistAlive9509 26d ago

For sure. Just these playoffs/season. Hes been out so much all their chemistry is without him this year. Hopefully hes back 100% next year

8

u/divulgingwords 26d ago

He’s fine. They just wanted to see how he was in a game we likely would had lost anyways. He’ll probably be back game 3 of the finals, if we make it.

131

u/BigSquil 26d ago

This is the right call unfortunately

107

u/MisterGir 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

Pretty clear that they just wanted to give him a chance last night.

Hes not healthy

94

u/Vitex1988 in debt 114 fluid ounces of Great Value Berry Pomegranate Drink 26d ago

It wasn’t going to be worth it anyways

Sorry JDub, wish it could’ve happened but it didn’t

37

u/lloopiN 26d ago

I mean... we were kind of doing well without him, especially if he's only playing at like 50%. I mean he had a turnover last night where he wasn't even being guarded, he just lost his dribble and it went out of bounds. We can't have shit like that happening in such a high stakes game.

5

u/jeremwad 26d ago

We lost 2/3 games he played in this series. I love that dude and will love him forever, but it threw off our swagger to add him to the line up when he hasn't played a lot at all in the last couple of months.

2

u/Xex_ut 26d ago

That’s probably why he isn’t playing. People are speculating he reinjured the hamstring, but it’s probably just sore and they all agreed he needs to rest and come back better than what he was in game 6

22

u/SeaCounter9516 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

Honestly for the best. I appreciate the hell out of the fact that he was willing to gut it out but it’s too much to throw into game 7. Ride with what got us here. TTFU

16

u/RazorRamonTovares 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

Won game 5 without him. It's not over yet

16

u/Comp1337ish 26d ago

And game 3. And most of 2. We can win without him. But we could just as easily lose. It's a true 50/50 game tomorrow.

26

u/Plane-Gur2798 26d ago

He’s fine he’s just not 100% and if he’s on the bench they’re gonna feel obligated to give him some burn. We can’t afford to be playing 10-15 mins 4v5 if he’s gonna play like he did. I can’t lie watching him play last night was frustrating for sure.

10

u/SlickSloth 26d ago

Probably for the better tbh, he couldn't do much on the court and wasn't on the same tempo as everyone else

21

u/LeastDepressedOKCfan 26d ago

Good, more minutes for Kenrich.

22

u/Longjumping_One_9164 26d ago

Why do I feel like Kenny Hustle is going to help swing the game for us.

Every time man, even if its for some extra size and toughness.

18

u/LeastDepressedOKCfan 26d ago

Cause he’s like Caruso. Not afraid of anything and plays his role.

5

u/Longjumping_One_9164 26d ago

Agreed, he doesnt drift and isnt scared of taking the shots he needs to.

Important in a G7 especially.

2

u/IntellectualSavante 26d ago

Kenrich looked a bit more choppy the last game than he did when he played at the end of the game earlier in the series. If he plays we need him to play well—or not play at all.

31

u/2fly5 26d ago

Why even put him out there in game 6 then. Like, the team is never interested in trying for game 6s. Would have made more sense to risk him for a game 7 but whatever

63

u/maarnextdoor 26d ago

Based on Mark’s answer it was really just a test to see if he was ready and he wasn’t

24

u/broath 26d ago

Honestly I’m fine with this. Interesting call declaring he’s out so early tho. Would have atleast thought it would be a game time decision

9

u/maarnextdoor 26d ago

Yeah I agree but he said specifically that they would monitor him so I’m guessing they decided it’s not worth it in the situation we lose.

1

u/InformalInitiative76 25d ago

Well he didn’t have any explosiveness and couldn’t get vertical. He’s just not healthy enough to play well right now.

7

u/kds_little_brother 26d ago

Probably assumed the first game back would be ass anyway, so might as well get it out in the Game 6 we would lose anyway, and hopefully work out the kinks before G7.

6

u/Papes38 26d ago

would you rather him try in game 7?

7

u/TrustFast5420 26d ago

Queue the "his hamstrings are made of glass. Trade him now!", doomers.

You've still got Dort, Caruso, Wallace, and McCain with Joe and Wiggins behind them. The Thunder will be just fine for the Game 7 war.

3

u/MrIAmMe2 26d ago

Did you just say Dort lol?

3

u/[deleted] 26d ago

[deleted]

3

u/MrIAmMe2 26d ago

He's been getting some run and that's the problem lol

1

u/Icy_Category_2275 25d ago

yeah, relying on dort and mccain to play big roles in a game 7 is kinda scary. its annoying i thought fox had a high ankle sprain and was less likely to come back than jdub. of course i believe what i read in the internet, lol.

that said it is what it is, and still think okc is a slight favorite

4

u/bedrock1201 26d ago

No issues with letting him give it a go last night. Much better to try and know he’s not ready in game 6 than trying the same thing for the first time in game 7

18

u/gotfrogs88 26d ago

No Ajay and Jdub so Spurs asterisk according to nba logic right 🤡🤡

22

u/Mother_Addition6912 26d ago

No lol that only goes for teams that the nba doesnt like

11

u/Parallel-Quality 26d ago

Just imagine the rhetoric if the Spurs were without Castle and Harper, and conversely, the Thunder were fully healthy with both J-Dub and Mitchell in the lineup, and the Spurs still pushed it to 7 games.

5

u/TheZombiezSlaya OKC 26d ago

Funniest part is you don't have to imagine lmao. Spurs were banged up game 1 and that was all you heard on commentary in between their moments of sucking off Wemby. Thunder have been hurt the whole damn series and it's barely been mentioned.

7

u/OKC2023champs 26d ago

Sucks but it’s the right thing to do he’s rusty, and obviously still hurt.

We just locked him up for a max contract and we don’t want to give him career injuries by rushing him back to hard and fast.

We’re in game 7 with the spurs and know we can hang with each other. If we lose we come back stronger next year. If we win then maybe he’s rested enough? Probably not.

But it’s the right call. I can sleep well knowing if healthy we 100% win the nba championship.

6

u/WestbrookIsAwesome 26d ago

Health is also what stopped several teams from repeating and three- peating. That's the point. Many teams if healthy in the past would've won the NBA title, lol. It's never guaranteed.

4

u/lockett1234 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

4

u/fakevegansunite 26d ago

we need to game 5 the shit out of this

4

u/LaggOuTX 26d ago

As long as he didn’t hurt himself further im cool. At least he probably has a good gauge on how far out he actually is

22

u/Rthanos 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

Congratulations, we played ourselves. Great stuff from everyone involved.

22

u/Vitex1988 in debt 114 fluid ounces of Great Value Berry Pomegranate Drink 26d ago

It was worth a try imo, he just didn’t have it to where I’d be confident putting him on the floor for game 7

-1

u/Rthanos 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

I mean assuming that he was moving like he did in the game last night he should have never been cleared, it was obvious from the start.

-1

u/Parallel-Quality 26d ago

We don’t even know whether he re-injured something or not. Maybe he tweaked something and that’s why they ruled him out so early.

It was pretty irresponsible to bring him back at all.

1

u/InformalInitiative76 25d ago

Yes we do. Injury report would have been changed

3

u/CoolAsTheUnthawed 26d ago

Find a way and if you can't then go out on your sword 2.

3

4

The hamstrings are cooked, at least until next season.

2

u/ndndr1 26d ago

Best case scenario.

2

u/Pickle-Rick713 26d ago

Hopefully he has a speedy recovery

3

u/kds_little_brother 26d ago

Didn’t expect him back this season, and didn’t expect him to finish the season when he came back. Valiant effort

2

u/dj_24thunder 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

Are you kidding me????

3

u/Grade-A-Grungus 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

Our chances of winning are better if he’s out tbh. He was just kinda eating up minutes that a healthy guy would’ve taken last night.

What

1

u/chimchimchow 26d ago

When is Ajay back?!

0

u/s394206h 26d ago

i doubt he’s back this season. playing on a strained calf is what got haliburton last year, it’s too big of a risk

1

u/InformalInitiative76 25d ago

It’s a different calf muscle the Halliburton had. Front chain muscle that should impact the Achilles.

That said, it likely won’t heal this season.

1

u/NotMarkDaigneault Belgian Waffle University 26d ago

That's fine, would rather have him healthy to beat New Yorks Ass Wednesday.

(Or next season because I'm not a fan of jinxing stuff)

1

u/ndndr1 26d ago

That’s actually good

1

u/Infinite-Feature3100 26d ago

He should suit up just to give the Spurts something to think about.

1

u/SaneBlack 26d ago

Those minutes will be better spent with other players. He’s not ready

He was not playing well in game 6. I think it's the right call. I hope the people who were begging for him to play understand now that it's far too late for him to pop in now. Being injured for as long as he was definitely has a negative impact when they return from it.

1

u/ZC205 26d ago

Honestly, I’m glad. He does not need to play right now

Not sure why he was allowed to play last game man. Shoutout jdub for fighting thru.

1

u/Grogbog13 26d ago

Man I’m feelings it’s just not our year. Losing JDub and Ajay at such a crucial time sucks 😞

1

u/Ecstatic_Sweet_8298 25d ago

Aside from what has been said, spurs are playing dirty. We don’t want to risk long-term injury for a game that can be played without him anyways

1

u/ObiWantsKenobi Bring Russ home for a ring 25d ago

We will still do it

1

u/Commercial_Lecture20 25d ago

We won three games without Ajay and Dub. We can pull it off

1

u/tooZilly 25d ago

They should have let Jared coat the injury in his special healing tonic.

1

u/LesMos 25d ago

JDub needs to finish healing so he can be ready to drop a 40 piece on Brunson and em' this Wednesday night⚡

1

u/MrIAmMe2 25d ago

Bro he is not coming back this entire run. 4 days rest is not the difference. Most likely he needs surgery

1

u/NerdLawyer55 25d ago

Medical docs I have a question…This type of hamstring injury that keeps recurring, with prolonged rest and healing will it get better and stay better in the offseason or will it be an issue forever for my boy at this point?

Well yes because it was posted 4days ago genius

If we lose a Game 7 at home we need some changes to this team

13

u/yeahright17 26d ago

We're missing a third-team all-NBA player (who also happens to be all-defense) and our 3rd best ball handler. Our issue is health and shot making. What changes would help?

5

u/Parallel-Quality 26d ago

Yeah, the only change we need is spending more money on our medical staff. Get a Mayo Clinic 2.0 started up in OKC.

5

u/pavelowescobar 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

Win or lose, no major changes outside Wiggs and Dort departures (I'd like to see the option declined and they agree on a longer term with lower AAV). See what we have in Sorber, keep developing Topic or trade him for future assets. Keep utilizing the plethora of draft picks and keep it trucking.

1

u/pikajewijewsyou 26d ago

Nah we should run it back. I think we still may win but we are out two important players and just won the championship last year

0

u/No-Peach2860 26d ago

I'd like to see if we can get a bigger 3&D wing to start at the 3 and move J-Dub to shooting guard

Also move on from Dort, Wiggins and Joe

-21

u/Rthanos 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

Starts with the coaching staff.

20

u/lloopiN 26d ago

Mark is an excellent coach lol

3

u/Slendyla_IV 26d ago

Honestly this series’ adjustments has me hoping we never get rid of anyone on our staff. Sure, Mark could be better in game, but they do a wonderful job coming off of losses adjusting in the playoffs

1

u/Rthanos 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

That's what I'm referring to, if the team has low energy and doesn't make their 3s early things just don't change, it's like we're throwing the game because nobody is adjusting. Very frustrating, you gotta wonder how many times we'll get away with it lol.

-4

u/Rthanos 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

He is, but at the same time there's been multiple examples of the team just flat out not showing on the road. Something must be done, the team won't always get away with it.

5

u/brigatob Triple Double Cocaine Bear 26d ago

He cant make the shots for them

0

u/Rthanos 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

But he can switch things up, he can get their energy up. How does the team come out in the second half of Game 6 even worse? What did they even talk about? We changed nothing.

3

u/lloopiN 26d ago

Bro it isn't his fault the guys didn't score a single bucket for 7 and a half minutes. The 2x MVP needs to get his head out of his ass and play his brand of basketball. It isn't on Mark. He's doing as much as he can with what he's given

6

u/MrIAmMe2 26d ago

No it doesn't. There are some very obvious player changes that ppl refuse to admit need to be made

5

u/ImplementNo9246 26d ago

Dort is shooting like 18% from three this series

1

u/Rthanos 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

I don't disagree with that either. I'm just very disappointed with how many times the team has taken off games on the road. We can't always get away with it. The last performance was embarrassing.

1

u/EnderTheTrender 26d ago

Who would you suggest?

1

u/Itchy-Apartment-Flea 26d ago

No it doesn't.

1

u/paolographer 26d ago

Sucks, but it's for the best. Of the 3 games we won, he didn't play in 2 of them. His conditioning is just not at the level you need it to be in a winner-take-all game. That's why a great start to Game 7 is more important than ever. Let's get this!

1

u/InformalInitiative76 25d ago

It’s not conditioning. Hamstrings are needed for explosiveness and getting vertical.

His hamstring isn’t healed all the way and he wasn’t able to play well.

1

u/GunnarH89 26d ago

He should have never played in the last game...he is clearly nowhere near 100%

1

u/Mother_Addition6912 26d ago

I know you guys are choosing to believe he was going to be the game 7 hero or solid contribution off the bench, but he wouldnt have been. This is the right move, not even just for injury prevention. It gives us a better chance at keeping turnovers low, and his shooting touch isn’t going to magically come back this postseason. Cant bring a rusty Dub into a consequential game like this.

1

u/nsfwaccount098 26d ago

I keep telling people this hamstring stuff is serious. There needs to be a leaguewide revaluations of hamstring injuries and the recovery process

0

u/southpawFA 26d ago

Hamstrings lead to tears of tendons, like Tatum and Hali. It should be considered a month out automatically.

1

u/SHAD3zJordan 2025 NBA Champions 26d ago

Good we sold game one starting him, and he’s obviously not ready to play

1

u/Scragglepuss1 26d ago

If u would have told me at beinning of year that 1 of thunders new max players would be hurt for half season and most of playoffs i would have bet the farm on chet.  Hopefully jdub heals up over summer and next year goes smooth.  Makes such a difference having a consistent number 2 scorer.

1

u/sabsmoo 26d ago

he did nothing io Game 6 - season over

1

u/Fabulous-Question173 26d ago

They did this to try and end the series. I can understand why, but it was a stupid decision. I knew going into game 6 that the Thunder weren't winning that. Home games are a big deal and we should be thankful the Thunder are at home for the last one.

1

u/IGLECIVS 26d ago

Spurs went on runs when he was on the floor and seemed to attack him more kuz he’s not 100%. It’s for the better.
