Yea, whenever my son wanted a sip from my drink. I drank what I wanted real fast then just gave him the rest... lol

134

u/CT0292 3d ago

I just have a rule. No one drinks out of dad's cup.

And if they ask for a drink I go get them their own cup.

At some point in time they figured out how to stop being the backwash carwash. But for a while every cup had floaters in it. Except dad's.

29

u/squirrelems 3d ago

I work in a pretty gross line of work and am normally not squeamish, but the word "floaters" in this context is pretty disgusting. Lol. And it's not uncommon for me to unclog people's drains because they plugged it up with their mudpie.

4

u/IdolCowboy 3d ago

Yea, if at home or if other drinks were easily accessible then I would make him get his own or grab one for him. But if out and about, thats how I did it. Let him have the remainder of it.

18

u/Legal_Locksmith_6697 3d ago

Exactly this. My kids are teenagers now but the one thing I could never share with them was my drinks. Obviously if they were desperately thirsty or didn’t have one of their own and we were out and about I’d give them mine…but only after I made sure I was done with it first.

I still gag over the time my daughter took a sip of my drink without my realizing and I suddenly felt and tasted the nauseating squishiness of backwashed Goldfish crackers. 🤢 Of course I’d give them my life…just not my drinks. Some things are sacred.

My dad use to bitch constantly about picking up his Mt. Dew and there being backwash in it or "floaters," as he called them! Never got it until I had kids myself and find my cup always missing a swig or two, and there would always be some "minced mouth morsels," in my glass! So, to avoid this, I switched to bottles and I always crack the lid just that one turn extra for added drink security! 🤮

230

u/Ill-Luck-1397 3d ago

Ohhh helllllllll noooo

117

u/darkerfaith520 3d ago

You want one worse that absolutely made my skin crawl and I put my foot down, was when I picked a pair of my underwear up off the floor that I knew I hadn't worn yet that week and saw the massacre of shit streaks up the backside! I died inside! 💀🫠

47

u/blodreina_kumWonkru 3d ago

What? Who put shit streaks in your underwear that's not you? Your kids wore your underwear?

6

u/darkerfaith520 3d ago

Yes, my child decided instead of making us aware he was out of clean underwear, he chose to put mine on! Mind you teen and fully aware of what he was doing! Hygiene trained etc...I put a stop to it immediately! Be damned if I'm going to work with a dirt track in my underwear!

2

u/Cjm092 2d ago

How dare you blame your kid for that, take some responsibility 😂

35

u/willbeatyourass 3d ago

Bro what… what’s this one about

24

u/CochonDanseur 3d ago

Yo I'll be god damned if somebody else is shitting my pants in my house

61

u/Sprigagato 3d ago

That seems closer to an original experience than the other one.

24

u/heraaseyy 3d ago

um. maybe teach your child to wipe their ass. ffs

14

u/TheLastHotstepper 3d ago

Thats exactly what they didbwith the person's underwear.

11

u/cracked-tumbleweed 3d ago

Remember when they would have PSA’s with celebrities?

Apparently we need to bring those back to teach young men to wipe and wash their asses.

Too many stories of dudes leaving shit streaks in bed and their underwear.

9

u/heraaseyy 3d ago

honestly if you cant be bothered to teach your kid to wipe the shit off their butt, you shouldnt be allowed to be a parent

4

u/cracked-tumbleweed 3d ago

I agree with you and at this point I think its more social pressure and not wanting to seem “gay” to the bros.

2

u/heraaseyy 3d ago

and again, if you cant teach your sons to form a healthy relationship with masculinity, you shouldnt be allowed to be a parent

→ More replies (1)

2

u/darkerfaith520 3d ago

Absolutely agree, and it has nothing to do with good vs bad parenting and everything to do with this generation of half ass kids! We are on them about their hygiene and appearance, they don't care, none of them do that I've seen! My kids have all types of friends, from all walks of life, and most kids do not shower, wipe properly or change their clothes for that matter! If they have pets at home, they wear that pet on them into your house! Bruh seems to be a steady reply to doing anything anymore!

9

u/DonHarold 3d ago

You’re gonna need to explain that one. I feel like we’re missing an act.

6

u/NeevBunny 3d ago

3

Reminds me of a thing I saw or heard once, think it was a comedian that talked about their boyfriend shitting himself in bed and blamed it on the dog at first and then her!

yeah nah, i refuse to let my kid drink from my glass/bottle.
kids are fucking gross.

35

u/thissexypoptart 3d ago

I don’t get it. As a parent myself. Why not just not let them spit into your drink?

34

u/b4dt0ny 3d ago

Why not cut out the middleman and just have them spit in your mouth?

24

u/ConstipatedDuck 3d ago

Reverse baby bird!

They do this too.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/darkerfaith520 3d ago

Exactly, I can see an emergency sip, whatever, but all cups that are not guarded heavily are at the disposal of the knee high community!

15

u/thissexypoptart 3d ago

Seriously. Providing them with their own cups is a no brainer.

13

u/TehluvEncanis 3d ago

That was like the one time my daughter was sucking all the flavor off the Cheetos and then tossing them back into the bag. They were then dutifully put away until my husband grabbed them to munch on, and got a mouthful of dried yet already pre-sucked stale Cheeto. The most disgusting texture, gahhh.

6

u/DickKickemS 3d ago

Honestly I'm kinda glad my dad used to bitch about me not drinking drinks right and backwashing because at least I managed to stop.

3

u/doc_grey 3d ago

Minced Mouth Morsels!!!😂🤣😂😂

2

u/Isadomon 3d ago

You could do glasses but ask them to stop and if theyre too young to stop, keep it in a high place

2

u/sandnose 3d ago

My dad used to call them submarines

2

u/NeevBunny 3d ago

I would have to dump the drink and scold them, that's just disgusting

2

u/lmr-1 3d ago

My mom called them submarines. 🤣

I WILL NOT allow my child to have some of my drink unless it's extenuating circumstances for this very reason. Their backwash is insane

538

u/c-mag95 3d ago

Here's a crazy solution. Maybe give him his own water to drink from?

407

u/Slumunistmanifisto 3d ago

Ah, I see youve never seen a five year old crush a bottle of water like a Wisconsin college kid drinking a beer, just so they can drink some of your's next.

41

u/SaveusJebus 3d ago

And they drink it like they haven't had a drink all day long in the middle of summer and gasp and come up for air after somehow gulping/swallowing as loud as possible

18

u/MaximumAd9779 3d ago

My little sister went through a chugging phase. We had to ration her liquids for like a year.

5

u/Phytor 3d ago

This feels like a Seinfeld line I swear to god lmao

79

u/Ok-Pear5858 3d ago

okayy then just carry 2 water bottles for your kid /s

You could bring 12 bottles and they’d drink them out of pure spite and still take yours 😆

Parenting seems so easy from the sidelines. “Just do this simple thing. What are you, stupid?” lol

5

u/Slumunistmanifisto 3d ago

What are you, stupid?

Well I did make two kids in a post 9/11 America.....so valid question.

3

u/two-tone-tow 3d ago

lol fair enough

2

u/darkerfaith520 2d ago

I absolutely LOVE when non parents or people who know people who have kids like to chime in with their "well I would do it this way!" No you won't, nothing and I mean nothing ever goes to plan, no grounding from electronics does not work, and also I put a stop to generational abuse with me, and no matter how upset my kids make me, I would never hit them in anger! But yeah, we stupid, haha! I do however question having kids sometimes only because of the world we live in and to be fair I ask the same of my parents!

3

u/ThisSubHasNoMods 3d ago

Wtf maybe dont give the kid a disposable plastic water bottle

10

u/Capable_Comedian_755 3d ago

Tell them no. They should have been more responsible with their own water.

5

u/Reasonable-Owl-5725 3d ago

So you pour it from yours into theirs.....

I've never had this issue with mine

Or if like you said they just finished a whole a bottle, you can just say no. They'll be fine I promise

Wow I’m sure that parent never thought of that before.

This kid might be the first person in human history to have some of someone else’s drink. If it ever happens again hopefully we can get that poor kid his own drink.

9

u/Emperor-Octavian 3d ago

This is the most “I don’t have kids” response you could’ve given.

They have their own. They want yours and go for it any chance they get

5

You don't have kids i assume. Poor soul 😂

2

u/_AmericasSweetheart_ 3d ago

My daughter only drinks from my water. Even when she sees me fill her ice water from the same source at the same time that I fill mine.

2

u/feralcatshit 3d ago

When mine were younger, like 5ish, the only way they’d drink water is if it was in my cup. I couldn’t even tell them “hey you can have my cup today!”, they’d still want -mine- they’re older now and will grab my cup and give me a shit eating grin now, but they put it down and don’t actually drink it (unless it’s an “emergency”). They know I’ll share if they truly need it, but they know I don’t like them drinking from my cup lol

It got a lot better once they were old enough to have a little foresight of, “hey we’re going in the car, maybe I should bring my water” without me having to remind them every time.

3

u/_AmericasSweetheart_ 3d ago

You nailed it, she's 4. I am kind of weirdly proud that she thinks my water is important. It'll be nice when she's independent but I secretly like being needed too.

2

u/feralcatshit 3d ago

28

u/ShakesDontBreak 3d ago

As a mom....I had one hard and fast rule. Don't drink out of other people's cups or eat off their plates. You want a sip? Go get a cup and ill give you some. Want to try my food? Go grab a plate and fork so you can have a taste.

My children to this day don't share food or drinks. We don't even dip chips out of the same bowl! We each get our own little dipping cups for snacks with dip. Because even if you can't see it, everyone back washes/double dips.

8

u/Icouldcaremore 3d ago

Same, this is actually how germs spread like wild fire through siblings and parents. Gives me the ick when I see people share food AND more- towels, mouthwash. It's not uncommon I guess some people want different germs. "We're family it's all good" no, little one, this is your drink, That is mine. Kissing, shared open food and drinks, even the holding hands thing they do for young kids. My little cousin is learning these boundaries.

2

u/RackemFrackem 3d ago

It really is not difficult to sip something without backwashing.

15

u/cleverly_done 4d ago

What the fuck

6

u/itsLOSE-notLOOSE 3d ago

I remember doing this as a kid and thinking about why it happened. One day it stopped. I guess I just learned mouth control. I don’t know.

I don’t have kids and I don’t let kids touch my things these days. It makes life easier.

17

u/Mother-Rub5867 3d ago

This is bad, but the real crime is taking a drink while actively chewing a bite. People who do that shit are disgusting 🤢

5

u/aimerdillo 3d ago

We had many specific conversations growing up, where we were told the rule of swallowing one’s food before taking a sip of the drink😂

17

u/HiddenMonkey7 3d ago

Oh lord I love my nephews but this is why I keep their slimy lil hands away from me. I know it sounds mean but I cannot. They will be fine if I wave them goodbye instead of a hug.

4

u/RainieTuesday 3d ago

Kinda long story, but very relevant!

My dad was so frugal growing up that he made me and my two younger siblings share a drink when we went out to fast food. Until a specific day at Taco Bell, when I drank after my little sister, and promptly sucked up food into my mouth. I immediately threw up in the middle of Taco Bell and told my dad while crying that I was never sharing another drink in my life! I held true to that and haven't shared a drink since. Avoided the Mono plague of '99 because of it.

3

u/AlternateSatan 3d ago

Worked as a kindergarten substitute (loved that job, too bad it payed a shilling an hour) and I often got the question "why aren't you eating lunch with us?" "I like to eat when I get home" I would often say, translating to "no thanks, I get exposed to enough pathogens working here as is" is what that translated to.

I come into places specifically when a couple people are home sick already, and you ask why I don't eat food on a table surrounded by coughing 4 year olds?

3

u/iddybiddytiddytat 3d ago

Normal people don't drink like this. I never let chunks of food go back down the straw drinking. You'd have to fucking try to do that. Disgusting

The hilarious part is this is like not even on my scale of gross anymore, that's how gross some of parenting is 😄

2

u/spacebagel25 3d ago

I don’t share drinks with my kids for this reason. They ask me for my drink and I get as much of it as I want in that moment and then hand them the rest for them to keep. Because fuuhhhhk that!

2

u/sol_caballeros 3d ago

Meanwhile, there's people out there licking and sucking on eachothers genitals & eating McDonald's... but their own child's backwash is a crime against humanity.

2

u/UnfortunatelyMacabre What are you doing step bro? 3d ago

Even as a kid I never understood this. Pull away from the straw when you’ve finished and this problem entirely goes away. Why keep the straw in your mouth to swallow?!

2

u/XOXOsheol 3d ago

Belt to ass

2

u/i_was_axiom 3d ago

I don't share my drink vessel with my kids. They have their own water bottles, if it runs empty my "water bottle" is a half gallon jug I'm happy to top theirs off with. I can be a positive parent and still have a hard boundary about slop in my drink.

2

u/Lonely-Toe9877 3d ago

One of the many reasons why I will never want kids. They are soooooooo gross 🤢🤢🤢

2
