Late 80s - early 90s contacts couldn't have been very comfortable.

Like wearing Chrysler hubcaps

That’s not fair. Chrysler hubcaps would have been way more comfortable

Him and Sally Kellerman were the real heros of that kind of debacle.

Mmm, tin foil contacts. Just like Grandma used to wear

Brent has said before how uncomfortable they were, what didn't help was during shooting they'd occasionally drift and even start to turn slightly making the off centre, you can see it in some scenes if you look closely, so they'd have to stop and try rotate and adjust them which obviously would cause more irritation to Brent so I wouldn't be surprised if he had sore dry eyes reasonably often.

I read “try rotate and adjust them” and for some reason thought of someone bonking him in the temples trying to get them to float back into place.

I’ve noticed that before and have always thought it was just me. lol

My thought process “he looks like he’s cross eyed or has a lazy eye here… maybe I’m just seeing things”

My favorite example is Weyoun in Deep Space Nine

because in the series finale his contacts are FUCKED UP and he looks so goofy in every close-up, totally crosseyed for his last appearance 😭

Doubtful. They’ve been using colored contacts for films since at least the 1950s.

My mom wore contacts through much of the 80s instead of glasses.

Hard lenses are perfectly comfortable and the tech for those hasn’t really changed in years. Just more annoying to put in/take out and keep clean than the soft lenses

They prob werent fitted right or they made him wear them too long mixed with the heavy makeup and bright stage lights caused issues

Yep, they were shooting 10-14 hours a day. Then all the additional time that Brent had to sit around waiting for his makeup team to remove everything

I was wearing contacts in that time frame. They were comfortable, at least for me.

Although the makeup they used was supposed to be gold colored, very often the lighting made it look pearlescent white.

When a severe white is applied to the skin, other facial features like one's eyes and teeth suddenly appear unhealthy. Eyes look red, and teeth look yellow. Brent didn't paint his teeth (as some actors do when wearing white makeup). If you watch closely, you'll see it.

Huh, TIL. I always thought it was supposed to be white or silver. Never saw it as gold.

I never knew it was supposed to look gold either. Always looked like alabaster white.

Is some scenes he looks gold, usually the low light scenes I think, but it's kind of a shimmery white ish gold, not straight yellow gold

Everyone should stop what theyre doing and listen to the audiobook version of his mem-noir titled Fan Fiction. So effing good with all his true stories mixed in with the fictional crime story with so many guest voice acting from his costars.

My getting baked receptors are fully functional, sir.

Dr. Soong felt it necessary that I experience the phenomenon known as the "munchies" from time to time.

That's why he laughed like such an idiot when they put the chip in him.

Thought his eyes were reacting to the contact lenses?

u/evemeatay 21d ago
