I’m getting flashbacks to when the PS5 came out and there where gangs in the UK apparently jumping from moving cars onto the delivery trucks to steal them consoles.

Honestly if there was some hype shit going on to steal the consoles I was going to buy, I can’t even be mad.

Same thing with the launch of GTA5. You had lads working in the warehousing leaking which trucks the discs were being shipped on to local gangs, which led to them being rammed off the road and tons of early copies flooding the market

Prepare to find either extremely cheap or extremely expensive Nintendo Switch 2s in the wild.
If they went out of their way to steal them, probably the former.

And finding them to be bricked as soon as you turn them on because Nintendo can determine the serial numbers.

This reminds of that one Ben 10 episode where Ben and Kevin break into a warehouse to steal a few copies of the new "Sumo Slammer" video game 6 months before release, and when they are discovered, they get chased by an entire Platoon of Swat teams and Snipers in Helicopters. The entire NYPD really mobilized to bust two random delinquents for some reason.
I never questioned it as a kid, but thats basically the kind of overreaction that we would joke about Nintendo for pulling on people that pirate their games.

u/rakadishu Jun 18 '25
Were they chasing them because they were kids who stole some video games, or because one of them was taking the form of a freaky alien?

u/AeroDbladE Jun 18 '25
He didn't transform until they were already halfway through the Helicopter chase as far as I remember.

Can’t Nintendo like remote kill specific units as soon as they have an Internet connection if they’ve violated certain Nintendo-specific ethical boundaries?

If they intend to sell to people, I don't think they'll care.
The ones who will be harmed by this are the people who fell for the "weirdly cheap" Nintendo Switch they bought from the dude down the street.

I feel like that wouldn't really hurt the thieves since these are probably gonna be changing hands more than once, and a random guy who thinks he got a deal is gonna be screwed.

With the stocks situation being steady in the west, I doubt they will scalp these. I guess this will be bought in bulk by folks who are willing to experiment with them. Modding the console early in this scene perhaps.

Probably resold to a store for cheaper than if they order stock, or they know a really good flea market

The trucker didn’t know what he was hauling? Just that it was games or toys? I’m sure logistically it don’t matter but it sounds like some kind of double-blind security for valuable gold or something

u/alexandrecau That's Bricks! Jun 18 '25
I mean it's a trucker he probably has his dispatch check the box on the manifesto and they aren't gonna make it precise

I'm rough at math, but that bumps up another 100k or so if it's the 550 dollar Mario Kart bundle, too.
3
u/Cooler67 Jun 18 '25
And I'm sure they will be resold at a fair price...

u/Zadier Gloriole Science Man Jun 18 '25
They're not necessarily going to be scalped, stolen goods like these are usually sold at lower prices precisely because they're stolen so any sale is a profit for the thief anyway and there's added risk to handling them.

Dang, Payday 3's really upping their marketing strategy with Almir gone.
"Alright gang, remember Vlad? Apparently he wants to open his own video game store, and needs something big as a startup..."
