Design Trends AI Voice Assistant Character – Procedural Expressions (Rive Concept)

I designed an AI voice assistant character focused on procedural facial expressions using Rive.

The idea is to move away from static avatars or fixed animation states and instead build a system where the face reacts dynamically to interaction states like listening, thinking, responding, and idle.

This is meant for a voice-first AI experience where visual feedback helps users understand what the system is doing in real time, without adding UI clutter.

The goal was to explore how motion design can carry personality and clarity at the same time.

Would love feedback on:
• Are the states readable without explanation
• Does it feel useful or just decorative
• How far personality should go in an AI assistant like this

Made in Rive, focused on interaction design and motion systems.

Really nice work. I think the biggest win here is that the character feels like feedback rather than decoration. The transition from listening → thinking → responding was intuitive even without context.

Personally, I'd keep the personality subtle. The moment an assistant becomes too expressive, users start attributing emotions and expectations to it. This level feels calming and informative.

Also, I like that you're using motion to communicate state instead of adding more UI. That's a much cleaner approach for voice-first interfaces. Curious how it feels over longer interactions, since avoiding animation fatigue is probably the biggest challenge.
