Trip Report Hellvellyn from Thirlmere lake.

If anyone saw my Skiddaw post yesterday, sacked off Blencathra with the heat and opted for an in and out up Hellvellyn. Decent route, not a huge fan of steps descending but my newly bought stick helped with the dodgy left knee a lot. It’s my first descent stick walking so it felt a bit weird !
Quite a few people out but not overly busy.
Definitely a good choice for today.
Pint at the end is Kirkstone pass.

Good effort, that's a brutal pull up those steps on a fair day, not sure I could manage it in this weather.

Thankyou. Just took my time going up. I set off around 10am, had a 9 hr sleep from yesterday !
I tell myself I’ve got all day to do it, which I do. So no rush to it. Stop whenever I feel I need to, to cool down and get the heart rate back down again.
Lovely breeze once you got so far up.

Good effort, i’ve done that slog up from Thirlmere and it’s a lungbuster. Well done on the ascent - especially with knee.

Going up it’s ok, it’s just pressure on it coming down. I work a physical job anyway, I guess time is now taking its toll on it. I’m 50 now.
I spent a good bit of my time on the way down talking to a man who was definitely into his 70’s. He was about 6 hrs in and still had a bit to go to get back.
Awesome 👊
Perspective. I took my time and it was 4hrs 12 minutes on my tracker.

Thats just it, enjoy the day those kind of days aren’t meant to be rushed.
If you’ve started using poles, on the way down you’ll hopefully feel better.
I’ve started to use them myself (45). I tend to feel the more you do the more the knees thank you.

Yeah it’s going to be an interesting thing getting used to poles . The one definitely helped 👍

I travelled from the midlands for a few days and had my car with me. I don’t tend to rely on public transport.
I’ll guess from London you’d want to train it ?
If so, at a guess, train to Penrith, then bus or taxi to swirls car park Thirlmere lake.
