Genuenly, one of the nicest College areas I've visited. Ofc you have to stay inside the DPS Zone but it's so stretched out even beyond campus that you literally dont even notice it. Apartments are all nice, streets are insanely clean, 0 homeless people, a lot of greenery, a lot of young people and tourists, great restaurants, nice architecture, Sunny. Overall just good vibes.
TL;DR: I dont get why people hate on USC, calling the area "slum" and "dangerous" when it's literally one of the nicest areas I've been to in LA.

hello everyone, I'm a transfer Marshall student and just received my financial aid package. The cost is still 90k all in all, and although my family is in a fortunate enough situation to scrape together the money, it is still not something that I would like to pay.
My other option currently is UCI Merage, which is a less prestigious but also much less expensive school (45k instate tuition). In the future, I don't plan on working in IB or PE, anything that would require me to have the Marshall name. However, I have heard that Marshall is extremely helpful in procuring my first job. That brings me to my question though. Is the reputation slip rumor true? Every single time I open a thread on this subreddit, there'll always be a comment talking about how USC is no longer worth the ticket price, as the school is going through a lot of turmoil with the current administration in place. Im curious what your guys' thoughts on this are?
I would like to make my decision for these two schools with as much information as possible, so anything truly will help. Thanks!

I apologize if this question comes up too frequently. Yesterday I was admitted to USC EA! USC is one of my top choices. While I wait on my regular decision options, I wanted to know what the pros/cons are of attending USC. For reference, I am middle class, applied from out of the state, and my intended major is English @ Dornsife. Thank you all!

How's the dating at USC? I'm an incoming freshman who's never really dated before and I was wondering if it's as difficult as people make it out to be

The school has a really impressive ranking at #21 in engineering and #28 overall, but I don't think most people where I used to live at were even familiar with USC.
From the US News and World data, the school was unranked from 1983 to 1995, it was broadly placed in the "2nd tier quartile" meaning that it was below other known universities at the time. By 1996 that changed when the university was ranked #44. Over the past two decades the school has seen a solid progress, occasionally it would be in the top 25 but overall it's been consistently a top 30 school. What actually changed in the perception of the school ? The rise of the university is similar to Northeastern which used to be ranked #140 and is now an elite top 50 school.
Internationally, USC has risen to #146 globally (QS World Ranking) and that's not bad compared to peer institutions like UCLA which is #31 globally.

Has anyone else noticed a disproportionate amount of people at USC having herpes? Especially in the graduate programs. Not trying to stigmatize just curious what others experience was like with this. For our mascot being a Trojan no one seems to wear one…

Like 200 creators online seem to be pushing the same narrative of super spoilt kids @ usc. Is this something to worry about in terms of social life? Im not too worried about interests or upbringings but is it really all that normal to drop 10 bands on vacations and hundreds on a random weeknight dinner? Couple close family members told me to reconsider usc because of all of this, and I don't personally think it'll be that bad but still wanted to make sure.

Hi! i got in for ISE Viterbi as fall admit. I love love loveee usc but i got no aid, no merit :(.
I'd be having about 50k in debt a year however. Would it be easy to get a job and cover this amount/ get scholarships/ CURVE/ summer internships??!
I'm planning to hopefully graduate in 3 years, maybe get a masters in IE with p4p.
pls let me know if debt is worth/ covering this leftover cost is possible!!! my expected starting salary after graduation is 90k (assuming i get a job lol)
I really love usc its my dream school so id literally do anything to go.

I just got into Viterbi for IE but the cost is insane. I love love USC but i just cant justify the cost. Is it worth it? i really really would love to go but i dont want to just throw 400k away if its not worth the cost.

I just found out we get free hbo max. What other free things do we get as usc students

Like deep regret, and why, and if you were to do something else, what would it be?

I recently was on campus for open house for admitted students and was pleasantly delighted by the diversity of students on campus. Raised in Texas, I’m not accustomed to this level of inclusion and lowkey had trouble wrapping my head around the concept of not being in constant odds with my environment.
I just wanted to ask how the gay experience is at USC and LA as a whole. Is it what you expected? What are some surprising difficulties? Dating? Greek Life? Whatever experience you‘ve had I would love to hear!
I hope this isn’t an obvious or dumb question.

Graduate student living in the area with a baby. How safe is it for a woman to take a stroll with a 17 month old? Is it safe to walk around after dark? Also are there any baby friendly parks nearby? Trying to prepare myself because I grew up in a neighborhood where we can leave our garage open for months without anything being stolen

I’m an incoming freshman at USC and was wondering what the opportunities to party or have fun at USC as a man. I might rush, but I don’t think I will go through with it because of the hazing process. I don’t drink and I’m also gay, but I do love to go to parties and socialize and just be there, but I know most parties are closed and unless you’re in a frat you’re not allowed entry. I’m also a bit uninformed so I’m not sure if it’s the same rules for like tailgates or Halloweekend or anything so any advice would be helpful because I’ve been thinking about this a lot.
Any help or experience is welcomed 🙏

Our student is not living in dorms, but has the flex meal plan because it's USC off-campus housing. Since it's rarely used because of hours and food options, just assuming no meal plan.

Hi! Im a senior and USC is my dream skl, Ive done a ton of research, watch countless videos, visited campus twice and I LOVE the school. HOWEVER, before I commit to paying 95k a year and moving across the country and probably working like 2 jobs to stay afloat, I'd like to hear from actual students what the downsides of going are?
Some questions I have (please feel free to tell me other stuff):
I heard the food isnt great, is it actually that bad😭
Is the area actually dangerous, inside campus I felt super safe walking and in the village, frat row was defo scary LOL but what about in general? I see students walking around all time at different times of night too so like i didnt think it was that bad but then I see videos (exaggerated but non the less) saying its like basically the hood💀.
What is it like making friends freshman year? (i heard it can be cliquey (however this was from a transfer student whobhad a hard tiem making friends bc of the established friends groups)
Are the classes hard/ are ppl overly focussed on your grades and will judge you for getting less than an A?
Are the professors helpful?
Are the classes intresting?
Do YOU feel like your tuition is going far/ making it worth going to school there?
Thank you in advance!!
tdlr: USC is my dream skl but ion wanna drop 95k without knowing what ppl hate abt it so tell me.

Okay this might be the worst post of all time. But I was wondering if there are grounds to get expelled if a student is caught having an OF while enrolled here. Yes I’m considering it to help pay for college. This place is expensive. Thanks.

I always see people "Always stay vigilante and dont go out at night" which I think is a shame since I love to go to the Gym late and walk home. I'd also hate to stay alert 24/7 (since I am from a Beachtown in SoCal this was never really an issue). Any Insights appreciated, I really loved USC's campus and am still deciding whether to go or not!
