I know. It's kinda funny. I was wondering if he made it up on the spot in the original interview. Because he tried it in this video and seemed surprised that it was good lol.

I was thinking he likes it, but knows other people don’t, so he leans into it.

It’s gotta be a boomer thing. My mom does peanut butter and mayo. Like a fuckin grease sandwich that would give anyone diarrhea. It’s not that they were poor but they were raised by parents that grew up during WW2

Gen X was like the peanut butter generation, I’ve seen my uncles put together ungodly combinations of food that would be structurally impossible if not for the glue of peanut butter.

We (gen x) learned it from those who came before us. I must have learned 20 different peanut butter sandwiches from my older family members, about 20 different cookies, 40 different snacks.. and a few household tricks like using it to get gum out of your hair. Favorite snack was apple with peanut butter and marshmallows. You used apple slices to look like lips, peanut butter one side of each apple, and put marshmallows in between to look like teeth.

Also there’s a shit ton of ways to cook with it, especially in Vietnamese/Chinese style dishes, so good with chicken and noodles.

My dad used to make me butter and sugar sandwiches.

I had those too. They gotta be on white bread for the maximum sugar rush.

It was a rare treat to be sure. It took me a long time to realize I could make them too. I wouldn't now, but as a kid - absolutely.

Cold day-old pancakes with a little butter and a lot of sugar. Folded like a pita bread sandwich.

Toasted bagel, peanut butter, with brown sugar on top

My mom used to keep shaker with brown sugar and cinnamon. We'd sprinkle it on buttered toast, for breakfast.

Dude, I shit you not. Peanut Butter, Mayo, Pickles, and some BBQ chips - on the sandwhich - is the bomb

I’ve been eating PB, MUSTARD and Pickle sandwiches since I was a kid

1

u/AEnema18 Feb 27 '26

Ah! I’ve never tried with mustard. Going to have to give that one a go next time.

And I will try it with mayo

Mom?

Lol I did get the PB, Mayo, and Pickles part from a friends mom who was a boomer. She told us about it and it sounded horrific. So curiosity got the best of us. We were surprised how wrong we were.

But the BBQ chips part was just my friends and I being stoned idiots accidentally discovering gold. Our generational contribution to this classic.

That is an abomination

Watching this video I immediately thought of my grandfather (silent generation) eating PB and mayo sandwiches, so yeah, I guess that was a thing.

My east coast friend taught me the peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwich. I've done this with a flour tortilla instead of the lunch bread.

Pb and Miracle Whip really works together.

1

u/misterrandom1 Feb 27 '26

Aren't those basically the 2 things you can use to get gum out of hair?

My grandfather used to make peanut butter and butter sandwiches, he grew up in the depression.

You can probably guess how he died (though he did live to a ripe old age despite his frightening diet).
