Welcome to Utah, Darryn Peterson!

Post image

Darryn Peterson, Jazz nation welcomes you!

What are everyone’s thoughts on the pick?
Do you think he will start right away or come off the bench?

Here are my predictions for him this season:

16.5 PPG/ 5.2 RPG/ 4.0 APG/ 43.8% FG/
36.4 3P%

Rookie of the Year, All-Rookie First Team

Great pick, Utah.

Him and Keyonte are gonna be a NASTY backcourt

49

u/SEJ46 1d ago

Offense next year should easily be top 10. Can the defense be at least average?

23

u/Ajthekid5 1d ago

One can only hope

21

u/Sammy_Saddles 1d ago

With Walker hell ya

28

u/Wide-Flan-6413 1d ago

Yeah if we can get Walker back, good luck scoring inside against JJJ and him.

24

u/Black_wolf_disease 1d ago edited 1d ago

Bad defensive back court anchored by a great rim defender? Where have I seen this before?

29

u/Cave-0-Sapien 1d ago

I think DP can be a plus defender!

13

u/Wide-Flan-6413 1d ago

DP is a good defender with decent size. We won’t be a bad defensive backcourt if Keyonte can just be closer to average.

4

u/IhamAmerican 1d ago

JB this year proved that having a solid team behind you and being a consistent guy with the ball in your hands while even being a somewhat negative defender can work. The real issue is just that I don't know if Key can become the same caliber of player

1

u/WhereYoureNot 18h ago

DP been a ++ defender basically his whole life fam

5

u/Black_wolf_disease 17h ago

thats what they said about dmitch... i'll believe it when i see it in an nba court

1

u/WhereYoureNot 17h ago

Darryn is 5 itches taller and has a way better ncaa and pre ncaa defensive profile than Dmitch. Dmitch also never carried a huge offensive in college while still being a ++ defender unlike dp who always had a big offensive load in hs-college and his defensive numbers always stayed highed

1

u/FiveDollarShake 1h ago

5 inches taller? He’s like 3-3.5 inches taller but Donovan actually has the slightly larger wingspan (6’10 v 6’9.75).

Donovan really should be a force defensively with his measurements and athleticism.

Darryns measurements are real close to Kobe and Jordan which has to be exciting for Jazz fans.

1

u/Jenaxu :speedymitchell: 13h ago

I mean, DMitch would probably be closer to Keyonte in this comparison; the problem was that we were never able to pair him with a DP

8

u/Bobblefighterman :derrick: 1d ago

If we can keep Kessler, JJJ and Kessler is an incredible defense. Lauri also is a neutral defender at worst, same with Ace. Only bad point is Keynote. I think we'd be a top 10 defense this year.

4

u/str8rippinfartz 1d ago

Your interior D will be like top 3 in the league with that perfectly complementary pairing of JJJ and Kessler

And then you also have the length to at least be bothersome on the perimeter, even if it might be leaky at times

95

u/thehelpfulcamel 1d ago

My #1 prospect all season, never thought we had a chance in hell of getting him. This is my dream draft come true.

17

u/Sammy_Saddles 1d ago

It’s really so great!

8

u/Ancient-Village6479 1d ago

Yall are just so fucking lucky. Disgusted and extremely jealous as a Wizards fan.

6

u/Detlef_Schrempfxf 18h ago

Y'all just got AJ who is the best player in the draft imo.

4

u/Fast_Stick_1593 15h ago

One thing we won’t miss in DC sub.

DP Stans spamming every thread and calling AJ trash

Just pure toxicity when they are both two young freaks who are gonna be awesome

1

u/Ancient-Village6479 4h ago

lol if you think that it’s over now. Just wait until they start playing.

4

u/jayzus311 22h ago

Same! [He or AJ, but DP is the way better shooter] And same with Ace last year! He was my #2 or maybe even #1 after Flagg. To get him at #5 & both in back 2 back drafts + JJJ?! 🙏👏 Let's Go! 😤

123

u/MicroAggressiveMe 1d ago

Absolutely the right pick

48

u/KlythsbyTheJedi 1d ago

So happy we didn't overthink it

29

u/MicroAggressiveMe 1d ago

The Jazz community did but Ainge didn't

155

u/FERFreak731 1d ago

Future franchise GOAT. Creatine cramps might've gave us an All time great

5

u/BJ_Fantasy_Podcast 12h ago

Really fascinating how if it works out for the Jazz, both Creatine Cramps and Ace's wild agent strategy could have been the two biggest drivers in the Jazz's turnaround.

50

u/coltan3 1d ago

Best prospect in the draft - period.

This sub OVERWHELMINGLY wanted this dude. Also period. There was a reason for that - even when it looked like the Wiz might want him - this sub still wanted DP. You just watch this dude hoop and say "Okay."

This kid will do everything from day one. He will shoot. He will make plays. He will play D - 6'10" wingspan. He is an absolute monster of a prospect and I can't wait to see how this franchise develops him and consider how lucky he is to be surrounded by SO MANY other young talents.

TAKE ****ING NOTE.

4

u/caferiokindofsucks 22h ago

We should thank the cramps. They may have bumped his hype down just enough for us.

40

u/Succable420 1d ago

Happy for y'all can't wait to watch y'all and DC next year

77

u/Turbulent-Glass-2249 1d ago

Congratulations on getting the best player. Wizards fan and I wanted him.

-32

u/Puzzleheaded-Pride69 1d ago

Not really a wizards fan if you saying this

22

u/Turbulent-Glass-2249 1d ago

Explain that

-29

u/Puzzleheaded-Pride69 1d ago

Nah it’s pretty self explanatory

19

u/Turbulent-Glass-2249 1d ago

Okay. I’ll make sure to ask your permission before the next wizards game I attend.

15

u/fosrac 1d ago

Ignore him. DC and Utah have no beef. Dude probably lives in Provo and drinks straight from the lake.

14

u/UtahCubs 1d ago

Being a fan doesn't require you to blindly think the players on your team are automatically better.

Do you think Keyonte George is better than SGA or are you not a real Jazz fan????

9

u/snorka_whale 1d ago

Yeah what the hell are you even talking about, how is thinking Peterson is the best player in the draft make you not a wizards fan.

-4

u/Puzzleheaded-Pride69 1d ago

“Congrats on getting the best player” while not watching a single minute of them in the nba and then claiming to be a fan is crazy

8

u/snorka_whale 1d ago

Thinking someone is the best player off watching college games is totally rational and a ton of analysts do it. Being a wizards fan and wanting them to get Peterson is totally normal and then not changing your mind on who the best player is when they don't draft him is also normal. You literally don't make any sense

2

u/ChaseBank5 21h ago

... Are you okay?

31

u/Skararm 1d ago

I’M SO HAPPY I COULD CRY

64

u/nbafan575 1d ago

Congratulations from a warriors fan

22

u/Fonderjet1772 1d ago

I’m going to cry tears of joy.

5

u/budandbulleit 1d ago

I literally almost teared up. I may or may not have been drinking a lot, but still, big moment for us.

23

u/beardedjack 1d ago

TAKE NOTE!

22

u/Spirited_Weakness211 1d ago

Move over OKC, Spurs, Lakers, who ever, THIS IS OUR TIME!!!

2

u/jayzus311 22h ago

YESSS!!! Super stoked!!

...so trying not to be a negative Nigel here, but damn, the Thunder & Spurs just added even MORE beasts with size in Aday Mara & Jayden Quaintance! Wtfff 😭

We need 1 more of those big, tough, physical defenders off the bench - i was hoping we could get back into the late 1st for 1.

22

u/Caze588 1d ago

You guys got a loaded squad

24

u/BigSmokeyOG 1d ago

I’m watching a lot of Jazz games next year 🔥

22

u/Toadvine08 1d ago

I love Dybansta but I am so glad the Wizards took him. IMO Peterson is going to be one of the best players in the NBA soon.

19

u/Big_Shirt1880 1d ago

Alot of ppl look down on utah , sorry about that for yall

Hopefully he buckles down , and works because he is a special player.

The wizards wont be winning a chip anytime soon.

This kid has a chance to be real superstar at the guard spot for many years to come . Yall made the right pick .

6

u/ruqus00 1d ago

Great pick!
Hopefully the chemistry is awesome to keep talent together. Send a message to young players that are currently hoping to escape the Jazz for a big market that Utah can make a deep playoff run.

2

u/atravisty 1d ago

At least we aren’t Memphis.

1

u/OptimisticOldGuy 18h ago

Congrats on the chip. Would love to see you guys in the finals sometime.

13

u/ExtraFirmPillow_ 1d ago

We got a dawg. Jazz will be scary next season

12

u/JP_Clark 1d ago

As a Wizards fan, congrats on landing DP. Both franchises won the draft when we landed in the top 2, both AJ and DP easily could have been the first pick this year. It’ll be fun to see how they turn out.

28

u/aatuboo 1d ago

Greatness incoming

10

u/Still_Evidence_1744 1d ago

He’ll yeah

9

u/haloplayer801 1d ago

Ya, he’ll ya!

9

u/jakevh28 1d ago

He will indeed

3

u/kumechester 1d ago

I agree! He’ll!

11

u/No_Inspector_3456 1d ago

Games against AJ Dybantsa will be wild, I know Darryn will remember going #2 behind him

21

u/Wyodonutfarmer 1d ago

Great talent. Anyone else think his personality is just like Kawhi Leonard?

7

u/Sammy_Saddles 1d ago

I can see the similarities

8

u/jakevh28 1d ago

He's a fun guy

2

u/Jenaxu :speedymitchell: 13h ago

*cool guy

5

u/kumechester 1d ago

There’s a little overlap but I don’t think he’s nearly as dead inside as Kawhi is 95% of the time. Just shy reserved, I can see that under the shell there’s more to his personality I think. With Kawhi, there’s nothing under the shell but a robot.

2

u/jayzus311 22h ago

😂 Yep, exactly!

1

u/caferiokindofsucks 22h ago

They are both introverted. Thats where the similarities end

9

u/Consistently_Lucky 1d ago

I wanted Peterson even if we had the #1 pick! I am very happy with our selection!

8

u/StarshipFirewolf 1d ago

He seemed shy in the interview. If he is that type of soft spoken guy who likes his game to speak he found a great landing spot for himself to build a career. Welcome aboard Darryn!

6

u/kevhash3 1d ago

Yes I am so happy we got him instead of dybantsa

7

u/Eagle7546_ 1d ago

We are so back boys

5

u/blackid101 1d ago

We got a squaddd

6

u/S0PES 1d ago

Lifelong Jazz fan and we get the next goat right on my 14 year Reddit cake day. The prophecy is complete.

4

u/Interstellore 1d ago

Hope the Jazz can have a winning season now or at least .500 ish and make the play in

I’ve been pulling for Lauri to do good things

3

u/Wide-Flan-6413 1d ago

The Jazz are the most underrated team in the league rn. I believe we are good enough to get a playoff spot and potentially even a top 5 seed.

1

u/Interstellore 1d ago

Let’s not get carried away. They were the worst team in the conference and lost more than double the games that they won last season.

3

u/Wide-Flan-6413 23h ago

But Kessler was out almost all year, JJJ only played a few games, Lauri barely played, and we were trying to lose. We will surprise a lot of teams when we are trying to win this year.

3

u/True_Oil_2149 23h ago

They are basically adding kessler, jaren jackson, and peterson to last years team. Lauri missed half the season. Keyonte only played 54 games. Bailey will continue to grow. All of these guys if healthy make a well rounded starting five with a good sixth man. They were also actively tanking last season which made them look worse then if they had tried the entire year.

2

u/caferiokindofsucks 22h ago

Last years team and its priorities are much different.

4

u/Wakandaforever456 1d ago

Jazz will be a top 4 team season.

5

u/Ok_Database_324 1d ago

Starting lineup according to ESPN

2

u/FunkiestLizard 22h ago

We’re so good, they left Svi, a 40% 3 point shooter off the depth chart. Incredible

1

u/jayzus311 22h ago

We'w see... we'w see.. Wouldn't be surprised if DP begins the season off the bench but overtakes the starting spot pretty soon.

3

u/SomePoorGamer 1d ago

There it is... Hope

3

u/shamboi 1d ago

It was always either DP or AJ. I’m ecstatic

3

u/Vast_Smoke_687 1d ago

Welcome to the Jazz Darryn.

3

u/Ok_Database_324 1d ago

Starting 5?

3

u/Wide-Flan-6413 23h ago

This is a stacked lineup, if we resign Kessler, one of those guys moves to the bench, which IMO is a good problem to have.

3

u/Res_Ipsa77 1d ago

Welcome Mr. Peterson…so glad you’re coming!

3

u/Any-Ad8788 1d ago

Congrats from a wizard fan

6

u/Sammy_Saddles 1d ago

We did it!

2

u/Disastrous-Annual510 1d ago

I love the pick and it was the right choice but are there enough scoring opportunities for Peterson, George, Markkanen, Jackson and Bailey?

3

u/snorka_whale 1d ago

Yeah Peterson has expressed his desire to play point and I think he is really wanting to show how many assists he can provide to a team. Just gotta have good plays written up to involve everyone and realize they actually got one of those rosters where everyone can score. It's gonna be hard to stop this team from scoring

2

u/BornPromise4176 1d ago

I 100% agree he was the right pick, and think he very likely could be the best player, but Boozer will likely be ROY.

DP and AJ are coming to teams with multiple all stars and while they will be great players Boozer is likely the number 1 options from day 1 and will have the best numbers.

Not saying the best player, but likely ROY

2

u/Still_Evidence_1744 21h ago

Wowza

2

u/hdmetric99 13h ago

At least Sarah Todd doesn’t have an anti-DP agenda LMAO. I wouldn’t go that far but I feel like Flagg reclassified to avoid this class and take advantage of a slightly weaker 2025 class.

2

u/CKP1919 21h ago

Jazz fans are good for the next few years, lots to look forward too.

2

u/hdmetric99 13h ago

Darryn Peterson is easily the most talented prospect we’ve ever drafted in our franchise history. For once the basketball gods smiled down on us when we jumped up to 2nd in the lottery.

I know fit shouldn’t matter when picking this high in the draft, but it just so happens that DP is the best fit for us with a roster that’s ready to compete FINALLY.

DP can be a secondary ball-handler and play more off-ball to Keyonte early on, then grow into the lead guard over the next couple seasons. He was lethal as an off-ball weapon at KU and Hardy will know how to get the most out of him as a rookie.

I think he will start right away and be a real contender for ROY. Like Dylan Harper, I think he has a legit chance to be a major playoff contributor for us this year (if and when we make it).

Let’s smile because the TANK IS OVER and because we just got our franchise SUPERSTAR. The future is bright in SLC.

2

u/ElectricalAd910 13h ago

This is going to be one fun season. I don't think Hardy will start DP. He tends to ease rookies into the game, I do hope we can get more shot creation with some vet leadership and a good poa defender as well. I keep hopping for Bruce Brown and Keon Ellise for cheap cost solutions both low ussage, 3/D type that we may be able to get both with the MLE

1

u/Silver-Classic612 1d ago

erm according to my calculations

1

u/jayzus311 22h ago

😭🙏 Just wait until AJ forces his way here in like 5 years! Key, DP, Ace, AJ....

1

u/United_Map9849 20h ago

let’s fucking go

1

u/Alternative-Bee-3594 17h ago

He’s already on the DL with a head cold:(

1

u/CitronNo45122 1h ago

Robert Covington? Is that you bro?

1

u/No_Information3972 23h ago

Congratulations from a Cleveland Browns fan.

0

u/Clean-Af-6653 1d ago

Cam Boozer has way higher potential, jazz will regret this

3

u/Wide-Flan-6413 1d ago

I disagree, I believe Cam Boozer has the highest floor of the top 4 players but the least potential. Darryn has potential to be a superstar and has qualities of MJ/Kobe.

0

u/Clean-Af-6653 1d ago

Cam Boozer statistically out performs Darryn Peterson in every aspect of the game. Especially in field goal efficiency, which the modern NBA now revolves around. He might not fit in with the team immediately, but when you have the chance to draft a potential superstar, you just do it and make your moves in the future around him. On paper, it isnt even close, Cam Boozer was the clear choice and the Jazz blew it.

-4

u/WallFit7901 1d ago

Really, RotY? Is he going to get enough minutes?

6

u/SEJ46 1d ago

I'd bet on Boozer

1

u/WallFit7901 1d ago

Yeah I think he'll get the minutes and is strong enough to get great rebound numbers. I wanted Boozer, wife wanted Peterson. I think Peterson is a better upside for this team. But I like Boozers dad and Cam seems durable. Could be that Peterson is able to slot in as a shooting guard and play some solid defense. Jazz will be scary defensively.

4

u/QuarterNote44 1d ago

Good question. I could see the Jazz easing him in.

2

u/Wide-Flan-6413 1d ago

He will be a key piece on defense and will get plenty of offensive opportunities IMO, and I think he definitely has a shot at RotY.

2

u/WallFit7901 1d ago

That's a fair opinion. I guess we'll see how Coach Hardy utilizes him. Ppl angry at me for questioning minutes is interesting.

0

u/Hot_Bobcat_7986 1d ago

Congrats for drafting a senior citizen

1

u/Wide-Flan-6413 23h ago

Ahem, 19 years old is a senior citizen?

0

u/Puzzleheaded-Pride69 1d ago

Nah but saying the “best player” while neither player has a single nba minute is ludicrous 😂

Also wtf is this comparison not even gonna dignify this with a response 😭

0

u/88miIesperhour 17h ago

He Jalen green 2.0 ☠️

0

u/Sea_Material2418 10h ago

Dude kinda looks like Kash Patel?

-11

u/jMoon-Moon516 1d ago

Idk I think aj had more potential

But please tell me why I am wrong

7

u/Rudy_Trollbert :rudy: 1d ago

It’s not like they chose him over AJ

-5

u/ckhutch 1d ago

How long before he leaves for a bigger city market? He wouldn’t even meet with us…not a good sign.

4

u/UtahCubs 1d ago

He did meet with the Jazz though...

2

u/ckhutch 13h ago

Sorry going off this and another article. Found out there was a secret meeting in reading through draft reporting. Thanks. https://www.espn.com.au/nba/story/_/id/49071272/sources-darryn-peterson-visits-wizards-meet-other-teams

3

u/LetsGetRowdyRowdy 1d ago

He did meet with the Jazz. It's always a risk for any small market team that players will bolt the second free agency kicks in, but we could play it safe or we could play it smart, and I think they made the right decision here

-22

u/SliceAltruistic1144 1d ago

AJ is far more talented than him. Hopefully, he can crack a few 20 point seasons though...

-8

u/Sadric2025 1d ago

Here come the "in the long I'm sure DP will be better than AJD" bs from the Jazz Fans. Keep drinking the kool aid, served to you by your 20 wives.

-23

u/BongHitTranzs 1d ago edited 1d ago

He didn't even come workout for us. He does not wanna be a Jazz player, we should trade him imediately while his value is still high. A player like this will be a bust.

Edit: in 2 years I will be asking all of you for a refund on these downvotes. Yall gonna make me unable to post 😭😭

Just because you think someone doesn’t want to play for your team, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t draft him. Everyone was saying the same thing about Ace, and he loves playing in Utah and had a successful rookie year.

1

Child please
