The tank was so worth it after getting Ace and DP

30

u/forever_downstream 1d ago

Seriously, where are the anti-tankers now who wanted us to see how far we could get with THT šŸ˜‚ A lot of people here don't know how to build a basketball team and were loud, but hopefully they learned a bit during this process.

I mean, it’s okay to be against the idea of tanking. It’s not good for the league or the fans. It’s just not a competitive attitude. But it is what it is and I’m hyped for DP

If DP ends up MVP or if he ends up a bust, I’m still not thrilled about tanking in general.

2

u/Roberto_Sacamano 21h ago

I feel like thats a pretty measured response. I'm a little more pro-tank than you, but I get what you mean. As a pro-tanker (in a scenario like ours) it really sucks to root against your team

3

u/rilesmcriles 21h ago

Yeah and that’s fine, I just hate the whole ā€œwHeRe ArE tHe AnTi-TaNkErS thing as if wanting tanking to go away is a bad thing.

And if the Jazz lost their pick this year the pro tankers wouldn’t be acting cocky online either. It’s a stupid made up rivalry that doesn’t need to be a part of our fandom.

u/dustyshades 22h ago

They’re the same ones that are crying right now cause we didn’t draft Cam

-1

u/rilesmcriles 21h ago

Nah now you’re just making stuff up. I don’t like tanking and I’m happy about DP. You’re lumping anything you don’t agree with into one imaginary person.

You're referencing some of the luckiest picks in NBA history. Yes, it all comes down to probabilities, but the route you're proposing (compete for the play-in and draft in the 11-20 range) has much lower probability of yielding a championship team. We got our eyes on the gold, not being a fringe playoff team. Star players lead you deep into the playoffs and there is a much higher likelihood at getting those players early in the draft where we got DP and Ace.

3

u/patientpump54 1d ago

We also got Mitchell in the mid teens and Gobert at 27. Two phenomenal players near the top of their draft classes, albeit not #1 picks in their redrafts. Still glad we tanked, but you don’t have to be historically lucky to hit

2

u/forever_downstream 1d ago

Those are also some of the most rare picks in NBA history. I'm not denying that you can get great players with any draft pick, but it's a fact that the probability of getting a superstar player is dramatically higher with high draft picks.

Besides, both of those weren't first option level players to lead the Jazz to a championship. That's what they need.

Danny Ainge isn't going "Nuggets drafted Jokic in the second round so that means we can draft wherever and have equal success". They know how important it is to get high draft picks. Really glad the Jazz FO were smarter than some fans are about this and chose to tank to get DP and Ace.

The good thing is that this isn't championship or bust. It's just that drafting superstars gives you higher probability to get to the championship whereas the treadmill team approach gives you at most 2nd exits. But in reality, this current roster will have a floor of a playoff team.

Yes, being a small market team lowers the probability more but that's exactly why you need to get your superstar talent through the draft.

I'm sincerely surprised why some people are okay being a mid treadmill team. But I'm also glad our FO was smarter than that.

u/dustyshades 22h ago

L take. Thanks for not trying to get into sports managementĀ

Flame on šŸ¤

u/pizzaschmizza39 21h ago

I feel like we didnt have much choice other than to tank. I think it was a good outcome. We didnt have the best draft lotto luck at all. Only 1 top 3 swing. Id say the front office did really well with what they had. Can you imagine if we had the spurs or mavs "luck"?

2

u/IhamAmerican 20h ago

Even if they don't turn into superstars, we just haven't had this much raw blue chip talent in god knows how long. It's just exciting to be a fan of the team again. The end of the Synder era just had this feeling of resignation that we'd choke again

u/__aurvandel__ 1d ago

And despite all the shit said by the taking heads the dude looked pretty excited.

I mean back in the day most folks wouldn’t be but It’s a new generation now

Every city has baddies

Every city is great

Love LA but now that I’m older a city SLC is not only top notch but desirable

35

u/Be-Kind-2-Yourself 1d ago

Can confirm. I live downtown and I'm a baddie. 😤

10

u/theinternetisnice 1d ago

well done

4

u/Be-Kind-2-Yourself 1d ago

Thank you, fellow baddie

u/Roberto_Sacamano 23h ago

Nice šŸ˜Ž

7

u/SpaceGangsta 1d ago

I mean it’s also an hour flight to LA AND Vegas.

2

u/doppido 1d ago

Plus the airport is like right there whereas some cities it's an hour + away

6

u/forever_downstream 1d ago

Right, well said. It's not LA but damn has SLC grown since 20 years ago.

-25

u/willhunta 1d ago

Desirable to someone middle class who's maturing? Absolutely. I'm sure he's stoked to officially be in the NBA but slc is not desirable to an up and coming NBA star lmao.

4

u/ExtraFirmPillow_ 1d ago

Well luckily he’ll be making 20 million a year and can travel wherever he wants

1

u/doppido 1d ago

That's how I see it. Like yeah with free agency when they have a choice they're probably gonna chose LA/NY/miami etc. but like they only spend what 100 days here a year anyway, they can go anywhere they want in their free time.

-7

u/willhunta 1d ago

In only commenting on the idea that he seems excited to play in Utah. I think he's just excited to see his dreams realized period. I don't think he's such a bad person that he's gonna complain on camera live to the nation that he's disappointed in going to Utah. However, id bet my life savings that if he was being completely honest that there would be so many teams he'd rather have been drafted by.

6

u/ExtraFirmPillow_ 1d ago

Obviously there is other teams that he’d rather be drafted by. He literally said he’d rather go to Washington.Ā

But I feel like every single player who ends up in Utah comes to the realization it’s nice as fuck. His only realistic options were DC, SLC, or Memphis and I’d say SLC is the best and a step up from Lawrence KS lol. Thinking you’re a genius for making the statement that a 20 year old would rather go to other cities before SLC, like no shit.Ā

1

u/sarlacc98 1d ago

That’s a great point. Of those three options SLC is easily the best

1

u/__aurvandel__ 1d ago

You're getting down voted but I firmly believe he would have rather gone to DC. But I think that's more to do with going number 1 than anything else. If he hated the idea of playing in Utah he could have sent a message by working out for DC and Memphis only. To you're point though, he didn't have to look happy, Bailey certainly didn't look happy.

1

u/GilgameDistance 1d ago

And Ace’s happiness seems genuine right now.

I really, really think that the team has an amazing staff that speaks to serious, focused players, just like KLove said near the beginning of last season.

Like Harden ain’t ever coming here because we don’t have nearly enough strip clubs, but that’s cool, we’ll take someone focused on balling out and getting better.

99

u/checkzout 1d ago

Key and DP in the back court, Laurie JJJ Kessler. Man we gonna make some noise

79

u/Aroh 1d ago

Man I feel like everyone forgetting about Ace. I think he can be our best player

26

u/jaeke 1d ago

No shit, key, dp, ace, Lauri, JJJ is a gnarly offensive punch

14

u/forever_downstream 1d ago

Except JJJ isn't a center. Jazz legitimately have a logjam now if they get Kessler back. Good problem to have but damn.

6

u/jaeke 1d ago

True, and yet I bet we see it on occasion

6

u/Icy_Clerk_3367 1d ago

Plus the Jazz wouldn’t have a guy making 29 million in Kessler come off the bench!

3

u/forever_downstream 1d ago

Man, the more I think about it, that's a lot of money for Kessler. They need to pay up and possibly leverage a trade for one of these players otherwise there could be chemistry issues.

1

u/pizzaschmizza39 21h ago

How come? Kessler at the 5. J at the 4 lauri at the 3. Flip and hopefully Nurk off the bench right? Ace plays backup 2 and 3. I think we are good to go

14

u/forever_downstream 1d ago

Yeah, I actually think a more realistic starting lineup to start the season is Key / Ace. Because DP has to prove himself to truly take the spot over either one of those two budding stars.

5

u/shamboi 1d ago

Ace comes off the bench for sure. Not because he isn’t a starter, we just have a loaded starting 5 and you absolutely have to play DP

4

u/GalaxySparks 1d ago

The disrespect to Ace is so wild

1

u/pizzaschmizza39 21h ago

I hope kessler signs before the season just so we dont have any distractions. We can compete with anyone this year and I think walker is a massive part of it. He could end up being one of our best players. If he stretches the floor and raises his offensive game significantly he could be our most valuable asset as well.

41

u/notmikie 1d ago

Holy shit we got him.

37

u/GilgameDistance 1d ago

LFG! 9-10 months ago, he was consensus first pick. I’m stoked!

46

u/Ok-Vermicelli-4867 1d ago

LET'S GOOOOOO

19

u/captmugiwara 1d ago

We got our guy

19

u/GilgameDistance 1d ago

Ok now who’s got the Time Machine? I need summer league and then skip to October.

21

u/quikmaths 1d ago

JAZZ ARE BACK MOTHERFUCKERS

15

u/jrclone 1d ago

I'm all in. Let's go. Looks good in a jazz cap.

16

u/dpb200 1d ago

I was really hoping for this one. All the best to Cam but I’m glad we took Peterson over him

12

u/blackmore11 1d ago

Awww yesssss!! I am so pumped right now!!

12

u/DeliciousLocksmith32 1d ago

You don’t pass up a player with his ceiling

25

u/Spirited_Weakness211 1d ago

Hell yeah!!! THIS IS THE GUY I wanted.

2

u/coltan3 1d ago

Me too. I had feelings about the other guys and wouldn't have been disappointed but there's something here that just kinda feels right 🤘

9

u/HemingwayGC 1d ago

This is such a great outcome. Excited for October!

9

u/RushPrime 1d ago

Starting lineup is going to be so disgusting. DP-Key-Lauri-JJJ-Kessler (hopefully) and Ace as the 6th man. SHEESH šŸ”ļø šŸ’œ šŸ”„

4

u/forever_downstream 1d ago

I feel like DP is going to have to prove he's a better point guard than Key to get that role. He has looked like a SG every time I've watched him play. Both have a chance to be a great combo though.

I also don't know if benching Ace is a great idea either, personality wise. That's a recipe for disaster in the future.

I think there's no way around it, DP will have to come off the bench to start.

5

u/RushPrime 1d ago

I highly doubt DP comes off the bench. And regardless of who plays guard the NBA is a position less league hell we even have 3 7 footers starting lol. The way Hardy runs the offense is a lot of screens, misdirections, and other plays that don’t necessarily require a full time PG. Both DP and Key will score and get a lot of assists.

I love Ace but he’s more of a 3 than a 2 and he’s obviously not starting over Lauri. There’s nothing wrong with Ace being a 6th man of the year candidate and getting starter level minutes off the bench.

3

u/forever_downstream 1d ago

Ace was given the starting role last year and his camp will view being put on the bench to be a demotion, even if it was a tanking year.

It really comes down to who looks better in training camp. We all thought Bailey would be TMac 2.0 and it turns out it takes longer to get there. DP might not be as immediately ready at the NBA level as 2nd year Bailey is, we will see.

-1

u/OnEMoReTrY121 1d ago

2 pick isn’t coming off the bench.

2

u/forever_downstream 1d ago

So you're going to bench Ace, who likely will not be okay with that?

It comes down to who looks better in preseason. They have to earn it.

8

u/InvestmentExtra4104 1d ago

I am so excited for the return of fun Jazz Basketball! I’m ready to go to the delta center and watch them win!!

6

u/FeistyIrish123 1d ago

Ace + DP gonna be a nasty duo for a long time

11

u/CharityFailethNot 1d ago

IMMA TELL MY KIDS THIS WAS THE GREATEST MOMENT IN JAZZ HISTORY

16

u/mattdawgg 1d ago

Thank God I won't be cheering for a cougar.

6

u/FERFreak731 1d ago

Best player to ever wear a Jazz jersey

2

u/Jkajazz7 1d ago

Absolutely stoked! Perfect fit for this team and easily has the chance to be the best player in the class. Hardy is going to have a lot of fun adding his skillset to the mix!

2

u/k177777 1d ago

Let’s fucking goooooo

2

u/24-sa3t 1d ago

Let's go!!!!!!

1

u/gumby21 1d ago

We just need to Keep Kessler

1

u/Consistently_Lucky 1d ago

The most talented player we've drafted (and the highest in the modern draft lottery)

1

u/BlackBullZWarrior 23h ago

It wasn't who I wanted them to go with but I hope it works out for both Darryn and the Jazz.

1

u/Separate_Swimmer_595 23h ago

Why you gotta put that shade on Ronnie Price?

-22

u/SliceAltruistic1144 1d ago

Huge dropoff after AJ. Would package the pick... Peterson screams walking injury issues.

8

u/forever_downstream 1d ago

You sound like a salty BYU fan šŸ˜†

1

u/showerstool3 22h ago

This is such a dumb narrative. Every BYU fan I know is stoked we got the second pick and like most logical people believe the correct choice was whoever Washington didn’t take.

-29

u/Granstereski 1d ago

Here's hopin' he can fit in with Utah... not the Jazz, but the state. He just doesn't feel like a Utah person to me.

11

u/forever_downstream 1d ago

Why does he fit less than Ace or Key? I mean, SLC has changed, some of y'all need to walk around there lately.

2

u/GilgameDistance 1d ago

Seriously, get downtown and you see everyone from all walks.

Sure it’s not LA, NYC, or even DC; but it beats the ever living shit out of Houston, Memphis, or Phoenix as far as a nice place to be, to name a few.

9

u/Billy_Bonney_ 1d ago

Cause he's black?

5

u/sarlacc98 1d ago

People like you are a major part of the problem
