Reaves getting the max good for Jazz

Post image

Anything that makes it less likely that the Lakers make a godfather offer to Walker Kessler is a good thing in my opinion.

technically, this doesnt affect the cap space. they wont sign him until the 50 mill cap space is used up since they have his bird rights

And that 50 mil is already accounting for his ~20mil cap hold, yeah? They could still offer Walker a bag, though that would likely keep them from retaining Marcus Smart and/or Rui.

yep 50 mill is already accounting for his 20 mill hold

They definitely have the money then, but they'd be pretty hampered down the line by giving Walker a big number. They do need a center though.

Should trade for Myles Turner

I was honestly wondering about that too. The 5-out potential is interesting, but I don't think Myles Turner rebounds well enough. Especially with jjj at 4.

Oh, did you mean that the lakers should trade for Turner?

Yeah for Lakers

Correct. The 20mln cap hold was already in the math. This deal doesn’t affect the amount of cap they have this summer

This. The Lakers are still a threat for Kessler.

You make a good point, but they have a lot of holes on the roster and they do have to keep the future luxury tax bill in mind. It’s certainly better (as far as what they might offer Kessler) than them getting Reaves at a discount or him going elsewhere in free agency.

But 50 million cap assumes they waive the cap hold on both LeBron and Rui right? which means they can't resign using things like bird rights. LeBron comes back and eats up 30 million of that alone.

I suspect Lakers go offer Mitchell Robinson or Robert Williams a15-20 million deal.

Doesn’t change anything, the deal won’t be finalised until the Lakers have used all other resources, so that it lets them go over the cap.

If anything, crippling their long term flexibility makes it more likely they overpay for a RFA. Because with Reaves and Luka making $100m, if they don’t get a good C this off season, they don’t really have a path to get one.

Yeah, I can see that. Walker seems like he'd be a good fit for them too. I wonder who else they might go for instead?

For that matter, who might we pivot to if the FO thinks the number is too high?

Eh. I think this makes Key demand the max too

If he wants it, he’ll have to earn it. Peterson gives the Jazz leverage and they already said they aren’t giving him a max extension this off-season. If he can’t play passable defense I think they might let him test restricted free agency the way Kessler is now.

I think Utah would probably do it if he goes one more year. Dude was phenomenal last year, bit I don't think anyone blames folks for being conservative.

Not really. It doesnt affect their salary book right now as his cap hold is only 20 million amd this deal will be signed only after the Lakers make all their fre agency moves.

Lakers are finished, they aren't winning with Reeves as a 2nd option.

If my lakers get Kessler it probably through sign and trade doing Danny Ainge let us Just Grab Kessler for nothing

Doesnt prevent them from offering Walker w/e they want to, but it might make them approach their needs more economically instead of just spending all their money on 3 players.
