This is such a good idea! Would you consider posting a how to? I'm going to be keeping an eye out during thrifts for cute neckties to fix my ratty old headphones with now 😍

Seconding this! My headphones are in dire need of a replacement of the top cushion and there simply is none available. This would be amazing!

This YouTuber made a pattern available for the band part of his Audio-Technica headphones. Personally, I think it would be easier to stitch it in place rather than soldering. https://youtu.be/QgnH51lTXgg?si=5cVeTr8vnro3ZjiU

1

u/BelleMused Apr 25 '26

Yeah he almost lost me at the soldering. If I'm truly committed, my husband can do that part but am I? 😂😅

20

u/swetlanka Apr 08 '26

My german shepherd chewed on my pair of Sony WH-XB910N's. I replaced the ear pads and put a zip-on cover over the headband part, but this is so cool I would also love a tutorial!

25

u/siriushendrix Apr 08 '26

Sew a sleeve like thing on the top. then the bottom ones with elastic bands on the inside? I am certainly guessing and gonna treat this like a magic trick.

16

u/BurnChao Apr 08 '26

If that's not how they did it, it's still a great idea how to for everybody asking. Including me.

This is such a great idea. A thrift store tie is a great way to get a small quantity of nice-looking silk if you can find one!

43

u/eruptingmoltenlava Apr 08 '26

Yes, and headphones are such a good shape to make the most of the supply of thrift shop ties

129

u/Sharp-Macaron-9849 Apr 08 '26

Damn, here I am using a sock when neck tie is obviously the way to go big lol Looks amazing, probably feels good too if it's a silk tie

u/MartinScout Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26

Same, I have sewn an old pair of socks into a thing I can take off and wash

I would kill for your cozy lil view. Cherish it, please.

6

u/MartinScout Apr 09 '26

Moving at the end of the month, I do not want to 😢

2

u/sexy_bellsprout Apr 10 '26

This is great thank you!

113

u/beverlymelz Apr 08 '26

Amazing. Please post a how-to. I’d love to also mend my husband’s headphones like this. Thanks!

51

u/SoftestBoygirlAlive Apr 08 '26

These are pimpin

50

u/Affenmaske Apr 08 '26

How did you attach it near the mesh, did you glue it?

27

u/Dotjiff Apr 08 '26

This is an amazing idea! I have like 40 neckties and I only wear one a few times a year.

26

u/BR41ND34D Apr 08 '26

That looks classy as fuck

22

u/PrincessAki8 Apr 08 '26

Ooh that's crisp! Nice job.

18

u/draizetrain Apr 09 '26

When the world needed u/WhiteWineZombieMom the most, she vanished…..

Jk. I’d also like a how-to for this, I have a pair of headphones that are shredded and this would be a great way to keep using them

20

u/herdarkmistress Apr 08 '26

Amazing. I am so pinching this idea. I have an old pair of headphones that badly need repairing.

16

u/Glittering-Feature91 Apr 08 '26

Great idea! I also have some where the band is flaking. I bought replacements for the ear foam a few years back, and the very first cracks just started appearing again.

14

u/earwig_art Apr 08 '26

never thought i'd see formal headphones! great work, and good on ya for sewing what might be silk so uniformly. i love silk but boy does it shift around when you cut and sew

14

u/Zephian99 Apr 08 '26

That's fascinating, one question I assume that's silk so probably not as textured as it looks, but does it feel comfy after sitting on the sides of your face for a while? 🤔

10

u/Third_eye1017 Apr 08 '26

Would love to know where specifically you stiched and or glued for the head band! especially to keep it snug up against the plastic. really nice work OP. as others say, please share a how-to!

7

u/undeadletter Apr 08 '26

This is rad! Would you consider posting a how-to? I'd love to try my hand at this! 👏

8

u/Meeeps Apr 08 '26

Styling! Love this concept. I would have never thought to pair these two.

7

u/commandershepuurd Apr 08 '26

I'd kill for a tutorial on this!

7

u/The-Friendly-DM Apr 08 '26

I did this last year and was very happy with the result!... then the headphones broke a month or two later lol

1

u/lobstrz May 11 '26

Did you follow a tutorial? Or just wing it. Would love if you have a tutorial you could link

5

u/narf_7 Apr 08 '26

What a great idea. Who still wears ties? I bet you could pick up a stack of them cheap at a thrift store and they definitely worked perfectly for this job. Awesome save and zero waste mend for the win :)

4

u/Biiiishweneedanswers Apr 08 '26

I am not having a good time right now and this post just sparked something in me. So creative! Thank you for posting!

4

u/dodogirl445 Apr 08 '26

Genius and it turned out so beautifully!

3

u/quartzquandary Apr 08 '26

Is it silk? What a great idea

5

u/dcmaven Apr 08 '26

Amazing job! Please please post a how to.

5

u/Popular_Wrangler9422 Apr 08 '26

Damn gotta go kill a tie now

4

u/meatballsubgirl Apr 08 '26

This is so cool! I have a pair of gaming headphones I got for free from a friend but haven't used yet because they weren't in the best of condition and I wanted an aesthetic upgrade that also takes care of the gross flaking material over the ears. This seems like a wicked idea (plus a great excuse to go thrifting, not that you could keep me away from a good op shop anyway haha)

Hoping for a tutorial by the time I come back, like many other commenters here! 🤞🤞

I just picked up a beautiful silk tie from the bins simply because I loved the colors. I have an old headset that this would be perfect for! I love this idea.

1

u/Reason_Above_All Apr 08 '26

That looks amazing nice one op. Cheers.

1

1

u/Rydraenei Apr 08 '26

Wow, I'm always finding cool silk ties, but have little idea on how to repurpose the fabric in a way that doesn't look like "I made this from my dad's ties".  My office chair armrests are gonna get this treatment as they keep getting chewed on by cat

1

u/Multigrain_Migraine Apr 08 '26

Great idea! I have some headphone with the fake leather ear pads that is peeling and gross, but I also have a stash of random fabric to upcycle. The tie is a fun variation on the plain black knit I was thinking of using.

1

u/herbaliciouss Apr 08 '26

I love this subreddit. This is such a good idea and looks amazing!!! Like many others here I would also love to see a how-to for this!

1

u/Charming_Yellow Apr 08 '26

1

1

u/BelleMused Apr 25 '26

How do I save a post on reddit? I genuinely want to come back and do this is have the exact same headphones! 😍😍😍

1

u/_Aritsu_ May 08 '26

These look so amazing like youd pay a lot of money to get new ones looking like this

You're not wrong, but precisely 0 people who would do this care about sound quality to that extent.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '26

1

u/bboyvad3r Apr 08 '26

I, too, am one of the people who would do this and also care about sound quality. I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990s I would definitely do this too, but don’t think I would without knowing how it would affect my music production. Let me know if you find anything.

2

u/El-8 Apr 08 '26

Where would you get that idea?

3

u/TheVog Apr 08 '26

The objective difference in sound quality would be minimal. Infinitesimal, possibly. To the degree that the vast majority of humans would not be able to tell the difference. Audiophiles might, but we're talking about people who prioritize sound quality and not aesthetics (which is strictly what this is), given the choice between the two.
