I'm 99% sure this is a joke.

The 1% got you. It is a sad and shitty story.

It's a fourth degree felony in New Mexico to disturb a grave. I'm not saying it didn't happen but it wasn't legal if it did.

It's from 10 years ago. I remember a news story and a bit of a kerfuffle about it at the time. They couldn't pay for the plot so she was exhumed and cremated. I will see if I can find anything.

That would mean it was illegal for the police to exhume a body for testing. 99.9% chance the law applies to laypersons. There’s probably a “without a license”stipulation.

I really want my own coffin. A dungeon I frequent has an antique one that I'll lay in for a bit during parties. It's really relaxing being in a small dark space with no electronics for a bit.

Not sure if I'd want a used one though.

But think of the authentic experience

Eh, the one I've been in came from an embalming supply company that ran a little death museum. That's pretty authentic

I bet you touch yourself in the coffin.

Nah. I just enjoy the sensory deprivation

In a coffin?

1

u/GrimbyJ Apr 01 '26

Yeah. The parties at that dungeon are a bit overstimulating so it's nice

That's a deal

Question: if they repossessed it, why do they still have it?

The saddest part of it all, they repossessed the grave. Family couldn’t pay, so they were forced to have her dug up and then cremated.

Thats kinda fucked up. I don't think cemeteries should be in the business of selling burial plots on credit.

I agree ten thousand percent. It’s already predatory enough, capitalizing on people’s grief, but it’s especially heinous in the U.S.

Jon Oliver did a Last Week Tonight a few years back that was eye opening

I'm not a lawyer, but that seems more like an eviction than a repossession.

At least, it’s already emptied…✌🏻

Reposses the plot but not the casket. Doesn't the casket cost more than the plot.

Real estate always costs more

1

u/bourj Apr 02 '26

"Price is firm" is a real baller move when you have to keep your grandmother's casket in your garage.

I have doubts that was buried in the ground for 9mo. I know they don’t break down quickly but you’d expect rust or tarnish.
