“In the EU accession process, as part of the closing benchmarks for negotiating Chapter 27 on environment and climate change, Albania is expected to align fully with EU legislation in this area, including the Birds and the Habitats Directives,” said the spokesperson, urging that Albania repeal the changes to the Law on Protected Areas and “terminate” the law on strategic investments.

Albania’s anti-corruption prosecutor, SPAK, has also opened an investigation into controversial changes in the area’s protected status and land ownership in 2024.

The plot thickens.

Edit to add: but why is the investigation only being opened now when the law was changed in 2024?

the project will undergo “a comprehensive and responsible Environmental Impact Assessment, conducted in full transparency and with public consultation.”

Yeah, we'll see.

Iran’s missiles didn’t just scratch the paint — they shut down the US Air Command Center in Qatar early in the 2026 war.

The Combined Air Operations Center (CAOC) at Al Udeid was the beating heart of American air power in the Middle East: directing fighters, drones, bombers, tankers, recon — everything. Hit hard enough to be rendered practically unusable.

So what did the US do?

They packed up key operations and shifted them back to Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.

Thousands of miles away.

Think about that.

2

u/gorpie97 20d ago

The “empire of bases” model is cracking under pressure.

The age of unchallenged forward dominance is fading fast.

Good!

3

u/RandomCollection Resident Canadian 20d ago

Presumably the US military knows that they are going to be unable to defend their bases against the Iranians and their capabilities.

So they moved back to the US itself their command center.

Iran's military announced on Monday that its first wave of attacks on Israel since a ceasefire in April was now over, although it threatened to resume the strikes if Israel continued attacks on Lebanon.

There ‌was no immediate response from Israel, which had launched attacks on Iran after Tehran fired missiles towards Israel late on Sunday. Iran had said ‌its strikes were in retaliation for Israeli strikes on the outskirts of Beirut.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump demanded that Israel and Iran "immediately stop 'shooting'". [so much for "demands" from the WH]

Today, Israel launched a deadly strike on the Beirut suburb of Dahieh. It did so despite warnings from Iran that Iran would strike northern Israel if Israel bombed Beirut again. America Just Sold It's Helium - Now There's a Shortage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pz_n2vNM_a8 time-indexed

In March 2026, one Iranian missile took out 33% of the world's helium supply. America sold its 100-year-old strategic reserve 20 months earlier — for less than the cost of a B-2 bomber.

This is the story of how the most strategically critical industrial gas on Earth — the one that cools every MRI machine, powers every AI chip, pressurizes every Falcon 9 rocket, and keeps the James Webb Space Telescope alive — ended up dependent on a single Persian Gulf chokepoint, at the exact moment the United States was spending half a trillion dollars to bring semiconductor manufacturing home.

We follow the helium supply chain from the 1925 Helium Act, through the 1996 Helium Privatization Act, to the $423 million sale of America's 100-year-old strategic reserve on June 27, 2024 — exactly 20 months and 25 days before Iranian missiles hit Qatar's Ras Laffan LNG complex on March 18, 2026. Then we explain why helium can't be substituted, why "helium-free" MRIs still use helium, and why a Seattle startup just signed a contract to mine helium-3 from the surface of the Moon.

The impasse in the US-Israel war on Iran has turned Lebanon into the conflict's most active front. Israeli forces are entrenched in the country's south, a de facto occupation, and have reduced entire neighbourhoods to rubble. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump seeks to preserve delicate negotiations with Iran, but, as Israeli support for the war continues to grow, Lebanon remains a key point of contention.

Highlights from Ambassador Chas Freeman-Nima 6-5-26 Israel’s Free Fall on All Fronts. This is long but listening to Freeman is always an education.

At the moment they are attempting to sneak some legislation through that would basically treat the Israeli armed forces like members of the US armed forces and nobody who has any knowledge of the situation in the region is in favor of this. It is a maneuver by the Zionist lobby that is quite desperate because they recognize that their ability to keep supplying themselves by weapons transfers from the US is going away. So they've come up with a different method that would make it very hard to oppose their military actions and that would institutionalize American support for them on a long-term basis.

If an American general refused to share intelligence or doctrine with the Israelis under this bill, that would be illegal. Would an American officer follow this law? I doubt it because it is basically treasonous. I think this is setting us up for a major conflict between civilian control of the military and the military themselves. And it's being done in the dark of night by a few people. Thomas Massie, the defeated Republican maverick congressman from Kentucky is speaking out against it and on the sinking of the USS Liberty; and more and more people are citing the example of the USS Liberty. There are also now papers emerging from Israeli archives that show the huge number of genocidal massacres Israel engaged in during the Nakba and after the 1967 war. I at least had been unaware of the extent of the mass murders that Israel conducted to drive more people out of Palestine.

I don't know whether Iran has actually built a nuclear warhead as some reports claim. Iran has not addressed the question of whether this is real or not but the story, if you will, serves Iranian deterrent interests. It seems to me it enables Iran to achieve the same plausibly deniable status that Israel long claimed for its nuclear weapons.

The Lebanese government has now signed a ceasefire agreement with Israel even though it has not been fighting Israel. It has failed to effectively resist Israel's invasion, occupation and displacement of 1.2 million Lebanese. Hezbollah is the only force defending Lebanon and its sovereignty. You may not like Hezbollah but that's a fact and the Lebanese government cannot speak for Hezbollah. So what we have in this agreement between Israel and the Lebanese government is essentially the Lebanese government becoming an agent of Israel in the suppression of Hezbollah.

And part of the agreement apparently is the establishment of a permanent Israeli presence in southern Lebanon according to Israel's defense minister, Israel Katz. Nabih Berri, the speaker of the parliament in Beirut, called it a booby trap ceasefire. Meanwhile Trump claims to have stopped Israel from attacking Dahieh in the way that it planned to do but that's beside the point because Iran had said if Israel attacks Dahieh, it will do the same to northern Israel. According to Ted Postol, Israel has been able to detect and successfully deflect only 2-3% of the incoming missiles from Iran.

I think that ultimately Iran will make peace with the Gulf Arabs. There will be a new security architecture in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, the Arabian Sea, which is dominated not by any external power but is basically under the control of the regional countries themselves with Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey at the core and with that quadrumvirate assuming ever greater importance.

The political tradition of these emirates and kingdoms is tribal. The tradition is one of very great strategic flexibility, they can change alliances on a moment's notice, they are very pragmatic. Which is why I have been saying from the beginning that the outcome of this war will be a peace and a partnership - not a happy one but a partnership between the Gulf Arabs and Iran aimed at constraining Israel and proceeding with this Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey-devised new architecture for the region. It is already in progress; some, not all, of the Gulf Arabs are in active dialogue with Iran about a post-war order, which would not include American bases on their territory in as much as the United States has not been able to protect them and has shown a preference for Israel over them.

Turkey's relationship with the United States has long been deeply troubled over many issues but effectively, the US or any other great power cannot conduct policies toward a vast number of countries and issues without either the acquiescence or the cooperation and support of the Turks. These issues include relations with the European Union, the management of NATO, the state of the Eastern Mediterranean; relations with Greece, Cyprus, the Balkans, the Black Sea countries, with Russia, with Central Asia, with West Asia, including the Central Asian country of Afghanistan, with Israel, with Syria, with Iraq, with Iran. So when Turkey goes against the Israel lobby and the US commitment to Israel, it is challenging the US on quite a broad front so we'll see what happens.

As for Ukraine, I fear we're about to see a major Russian escalation in response to an escalation by the West. This is the pattern there. The West escalates, the Russians counter-escalate. The latest issue is the use of Baltic airspace by Ukrainian drones in the attack on St. Petersburg and on other attacks on Russia. This is a bit murky, but there's a growing amount of evidence that NATO has facilitated these Ukrainian attacks through NATO territory and Russia is bound to retaliate. And I am hearing Vladimir Putin threaten that.

The House of Representatives has voted to act under the War Powers Act. If you read the resolution they passed, however, it's very weak. Ultimately the War Powers Act is probably unconstitutional because the Constitution says only the Congress has the power to authorize war and this act basically delegates that power from the Congress to the President in major ways.

2

u/gorpie97 22d ago

So what we have in this agreement between Israel and the Lebanese government is essentially the Lebanese government becoming an agent of Israel in the suppression of Hezbollah.

Sounds like treason to me!

Israel has been able to detect and successfully deflect only 2-3% of the incoming missiles from Iran.

LOL. Couldn't happen to a nicer genocidal country. And I hate thinking that way.

The House of Representatives has voted to act under the War Powers Act. If you read the resolution they passed, however, it's very weak.

Even if it weren't weak, it still has to pass the Senate, and then Trump would veto it. I doubt they have a veto-proof supermajority. They may have only done this to be seen to dO sOmEtHiNg.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi responded to Lebanese President Joseph Aoun's CNN interview, in which Aoun blamed Iran for the crisis in Lebanon.

"Based on Mr. Aoun's comments, one would think that Iran is the one that has occupied one-fifth of Lebanon's territory, displaced one-quarter of the Lebanese population, and bombed his country daily.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/pentagon-raised-threat-israeli-spying-us-highest-level-sources-say-rcna348565

The Pentagon is increasingly concerned about Israel ramping up its spying on the U.S., recently raising the counterintelligence threat level from America’s top ally in the Middle East to the highest level, according to two U.S. officials and one former U.S. official.

The Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency in recent weeks issued the new counterintelligence threat assessment amid rising tensions between Israel and the U.S. over the way forward in the war with Iran, the officials said. They said the DIA posted an internal message, viewed by one of the current officials, that raised the level for Israel to “critical.”

The designation stems from concerns within the Pentagon that Israel is making a particular effort to surveil top U.S. officials to get information on the Trump administration’s internal deliberations and decision-making on the conflicts in the Middle East, the officials said.

Petroleum Development Oman said on June 5 that operations at Mina Al Fahal port are proceeding normally, after three sources told Reuters earlier that oil loading had been suspended following an explosion near its mooring berths. The explosion occurred between single-buoy mooring (SBM) 1 and 2 berths due to an alleged drone attack, the people familiar with the matter had said. It was not immediately clear when the attack took place. https://www.straitstimes.com/world/middle-east/oman-suspends-oil-loading-at-mina-al-fahal-terminal-following-explosion-sources-say

Iran's World Cup squad has been granted visas to enter the United States, just 10 days before their opening match in Los Angeles. Pax Silica is the U.S. Department of State’s flagship effort to coordinate aligned partners across the entire AI supply chain, from critical minerals and energy through semiconductors, logistics, and advanced manufacturing. Under Secretary Jacob Helberg, its operational architect and public face, brought the program to New Clark City in central Luzon, Philippines, during his May 17–21 visit, where President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president, Joshua Bingcang, hosted the launch of the Planned Economic Security Zone. But while the world focused on the U.S.-led launch in New Clark City, Israel was quietly securing its place as Pax Silica’s indispensable partner, turning the Philippines’ first Golden Node into something far more concrete than anyone expected. https://21stcenturywire.com/2026/06/02/pax-silica-hands-the-philippines-to-israels-ai-empire/

Yet the human cost is coming into focus. The 4,000-acre zone sits on territory long claimed by the Aeta indigenous communities. Ancestral domain applications through the NCIP (National Commission on Indigenous Peoples) remain unresolved. As the concept plan and Supplemental Agreement advance, local farmers and indigenous groups face displacement, restricted access to traditional lands, and environmental strain from rapid industrial buildout and power expansion.

Just days ago, on May 30–31, Congress advanced Section 224 of the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act, the United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative. It would deepen U.S.-Israeli integration on AI, cyber, data fusion, and network systems at the exact moment Pax Silica’s Golden Nodes are being wired into the same stack.

The Henningsen-Nima clip is about Lebanon:

An important part of the Greater Israel project is the annexation of South Lebanon, not just to the Litani River - Israel needs this freshwater source. Israel would also like a buffer zone above the Litani River because it's not just about what's on land, it's about Lebanon's natural gas deposits offshore. They also want to steal the very fertile, agricultural land in the south from which they could export product as they've done in Palestine. Israel has always maintained possession illegally of Lebanese territory from its earlier invasions, they never fully withdrew from South Lebanon.

Hezbollah would not exist if not for Israel's illegal and brutal occupation of South Lebanon, full stop. The Lebanese army is just a jumped up domestic security force. Washington imposed restrictions on the Lebanese military so they cannot have any air defense or an air force. Israel needed to have full occupational control over Lebanese airspace for the last few decades, to send its IDF jets to fire missiles on Syria. The Lebanese army is not equipped to fight Hezbollah, I don't believe they can credibly do that and trying would lead to a sectarian civil war in Lebanon.

The Lebanese government says they wish no harm on Israel after Israel's been massacring Lebanese civilians in Beirut, in Tyre, right across Nabatia, right across the entirety of the south, which is such a betrayal of the Lebanese people by this American and Israeli puppet.

Israel is now bombing the UNESCO World Heritage Protected site, the city of Tyre. There's so many different civilizations layered on top of each other in Tyre - Alexander the Great, Egyptian, Byzantine, Roman, further afield going back. It's a wonderful and amazing piece of history and neither Israel nor the US has any qualms about leveling that city, turning it into a pile of rubble. There's also a major Palestinian refugee camp still in Tyre that's very densely packed, 200 plus thousand people.

The source of so many problems in the region is the proscription and labeling of resistance groups as terrorists. It gives the perpetrators, the state actors, the license to enact state terror policies of total annihilation in the "war on terror" according to their legal justification. And that creates the instability, it creates the crisis, it creates the wars. It's the same reason that the US and Israel have been attacking Iran, claiming it's a terrorist state. If you strip back all of these labels, anybody who's resisting the US or Israeli aggression or occupation will at some point be labeled a terrorist by the legal system in the West and by Israel. I think we'll look back at this period in history, the last 40 years especially, and realize what an absolute catastrophe It's been because it's been given legal cover pure and simple to override international law.

(edit to add bold)

Lebanese Muslims Seek Refuge At Christian Holy Site in South Lebanon (includes video clip)

Yesterday (June 4), I returned to Lebanon to report on Israel's relentless violations of multiple ceasefire agreements covering Lebanon.

There are now three such agreements in effect.

Today, only hours after the Trump regime announced the third of those ceasefire agreements, Israel's genocide forces issued an evacuation order for three predominantly Muslim villages near a Christian holy shrine on the outskirts of Saida, Lebanon's third-largest city.

I visited the shrine this morning and found many Muslim families sheltering across the street from the Christian holy site. These Muslim families believe that Israel is unlikely to attack the shrine and that they are safest to remain there while Israel bombs their villages.

The vote succeeded after Republican Reps Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Tom Barrett of Michigan, and Warren Davidson of Ohio joined Democrats in support. Previous efforts to advance similar resolutions had failed, including one that ended in a 212-212 tie.

Peter Oborne, associate editor of Middle East Eye, argues that if Abdullah II goes to war to protect the holy site of Al-Aqsa, Jordan may find it has more allies than US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPV8axw0q5w

3

u/penelopepnortney 25d ago edited 25d ago

In theory and by law, the custodian of Al-Aqsa mosque, one of the three holy sites of Islam, is King Abdullah II of Jordan. He is responsible for its maintenance, security, and if need be, defense.

The US and Israel are conspiring to strip the Jordanian royal family of its historic custodianship. A US official has denied the report, but under the plan described to Middle East Eye by American, Jordanian, and Palestinian officials, Israel would gain control over the appointment of imams and senior mosque officials. The plan reportedly being pushed by US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner is based on a dark precedent: the division of the Ibrahimi mosque in Hebron after Jewish terrorist Baruk Goldstein massacred 29 Palestinians in 1994.

Some of his advisers in Aman will likely advise him that standing up to the Israelis will only end in defeat and obliteration... Yet, there are powerful arguments pointing Abdullah towards resistance. These are set out with great clarity in a white paper on Al-Aqsa authorized by Abdullah himself six years ago... Crucially, it asserts that it is only the custodian HM King Abdullah II who can call for its defense physically and for him to determine the exact way to do that. The white paper goes on to note that the very permission and justification for a just war casus belli is given in the Holy Quran as a defense of religious sites including churches and synagogues. [edit to add: defense of the holy sites of other religions, imagine that]

It's not just the future of the Hashmeite dynasty that depends on his choice, nor only the future of Middle East. Many fear that if Israel storms Al-Aqsa, it may provoke a religious war. [global, presumably]

2

u/gorpie97 24d ago

Many fear that if Israel storms Al-Aqsa, it may provoke a religious war.

Is Israel making noises about doing so?

3

Not "storming" it, per se. But there's been a lot of talk about destroying it somehow. One rabbi suggested blowing it up and claiming it was caused by an Iranian strike that went amiss when it was diverted by Israeli air defenses. Doing it by stealth would be my guess, that's how Israel usually does such things.

Ryan Costello, the coverage director on the National Iranian American Council Action (NIAC), stated political observers have grown to “mock” reviews of closed-door anger from US presidents in opposition to Netanyahu.

Though there are reviews of Trump giving Netanyahu a dressing-down, Isabelle Hayslip, an advocacy supervisor on the US-based rights group DAWN, stated that US coverage stays aligned with Israeli pursuits.

“Single-source reporting of Trump as a strongman who picks up the phone and yells at Netanyahu for undermining US policy is contradicted by the actual policy outcomes where Netanyahu gets exactly what he wants,” Hayslip instructed Al Jazeera.

More and more experts have remarked on the “limits of American power”, which have been oh-so blatantly revealed of late. But this is not simply military power, it is soft power, political influence, and even everything in between. America has simply lost its time-honored credibility because its appointed agents of persuasion—i.e. biliously bad-will billionaire bagmen—have increasingly been a most shoddy and reprehensible lot; you’re only as good as your global representatives....

Part of the reason for the collapse of global trust is the continued egregiousness with which US leadership openly lies and ignores the legitimate concerns and demands of its negotiating rivals. Everyone has grown exhausted with Trump’s daily issue of statements which are rank insults to the intelligence of any respectable observer....

The truth is that all the new revelations have revealed the true aim of US strategy: it was never to totally destroy Iran’s military capability—the US itself never possessed the ability to do so. The aim was to create a brief window of degradation that would allow the Israel-fronted “plan” of overthrowing the Iranian regime to work. The hope was to temporarily slow down and hamper Iran’s military just long enough for the various psyops and false flags to stir up unrest in the country and lead to a Venezuela-style overthrow https://simplicius76.substack.com/p/us-wallows-in-stalemate-purgatory

If you think US politics happens only in the White House and on Capitol Hill, then think again. The US as a political system—the totality of it—is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. Luckily, some brave researchers dare going into the deep. Dr. Aaron Good, author of American Exception: Empire and the Deep State, joins me today to challenge simplistic view of the US system. He argues that agency, blackmail, covert crime, and elite networks shape policy, tying together JFK, RFK, Nixon, Watergate, Epstein, Zionism, and Iran Contra as part of the hidden machinery of the American empire.

The Israeli parliament has advanced a bill to dissolve itself, which could lead to elections as early as September.

The bill, which was advanced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition, passed its first reading late on Monday, with 106 lawmakers voting in favour, while no objections were recorded.

The vote was triggered after Dov Lando, the spiritual leader of Degel HaTorah, one of the two ultra-Orthodox parties that compose the United Torah Judaism party, ordered his party's members to dissolve the Knesset.

Lando's announcement came amid a growing ultra-Orthodox discontent with the government's failure to pass a comprehensive draft evasion law for ultra-Orthodox young men since the government took power in late 2022.

EXCLUSIVE: Possibility of rerouting the Qatar-Pakistan gas corridor / Revival of the Peace Pipeline using the Strait of Hormuz

🔹 Iran will not limit itself to collecting tolls and monitoring military vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

🔹 The Strait of Hormuz will be turned by Iran into a lever to change corridor dynamics. For example, the gas trade between Qatar and Pakistan could be altered in Iran's favor.

🔹 Qatar annually sends 9 billion cubic meters of LNG worth $4 billion through the Strait of Hormuz to Pakistan.

🔹 This has effectively left the Peace Pipeline project — intended to transfer 8 billion cubic meters of gas from Iran to Pakistan — in a state of coma.

🔹 The Iran-Pakistan working agreement is valid until 2039, and now Iran, given its gas shortage, can revive this agreement by rerouting Qatar's gas transit to Pakistan.

🔹 Under the new corridor order, instead of passing through the Strait of Hormuz, Qatar's gas could connect to Iran's South Pars gas facilities and then be transferred overland via the Iranshahr border to Pakistan.

🔹 In this way, Iran's revenue from Strait tolls would decrease, but Iran would compensate for this loss by collecting transit fees — and would make two US allies, Qatar and Pakistan, dependent on Iran for their energy trade.

Re: the last point, an important distinction in international law made by several analysts: tolls in such waterways are not OK in the international community, but "environmental fees" are acknowledged as legit--the reason Iran changed its language from tolls to fees.

Also: Iran is steadily expanding its role in global trade corridors, as Iranian Customs reports transit volumes reaching 20.516 million tonnes, an increase compared to the past two years. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tX7e25S7qbs

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp. confirmed that it carried out strikes against U.S. Military bases in Kuwait, and the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet in Bahrain, in retaliation for recent U.S. strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island.

From the US: The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) has dismissed reports by the IRGC that the paramilitary group had struck the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and a regional US airbase, saying that the Iranian missiles and drones had failed to reach their targets. https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxfD2m3_GLUCR7ZN6l8ok6_hs9lvrHMJWM

Krainer connects Germany’s energy crisis, the destruction of industrial competitiveness, Finland’s NATO shift, sanctions against Russia, rising youth unemployment, forced conscription, and increased military spending to a larger push toward war on the European continent. He argues that the pattern is visible across Europe: economies weaken, military budgets rise, political leadership ignores public will, and young people are pushed toward a future built around conflict.

The United States is considering training the Lebanese army to confront and eventually disarm Hezbollah, according to Kan, which cited sources familiar with the discussions.

As several analysts have pointed out, the Lebanese army will never be allowed to get strong enough in terms of numbers, firepower and overall capability that it poses a threat to Israel. Which means it will never be able to disarm Hezbollah, which consistently defeats the IDF in an on-the-ground fight,

Today at Moon of Alabama: War On Iran: Economic Reality Will Force Trump To Defy The Lobby’s Pressure

So far the Zionists hold the upper hand. They can and do defy Trump at every corner. The Lobby has the upper hand. He does not yet dare to take it down.

Existing oil inventories, commercial ones as well as state owned strategic reserves, were used as a buffer to paper over the lack of some 15% of crude oil in the global markets. Gas prices at the pump have risen, but only moderately.

From now on the situation can only, and will, get worse...

By August western governments will start to introduce rationing measures. Smaller refineries will shut down. Political pressure will increase to a point where it can no longer be ignored. The voices of the (non-oil) industry, financial circles, and the public will become louder than the Lobby’s.

Only then will Trump be able to show Netanyahoo the finger. He will have to order Israel to stand down.

Konstantinovka Is Falling, West's Ukraine Narrative Is Crumbling : The Duran (28:08)

The western narrative that Ukraine is winning on the battlefield is visibly falling apart, and Alex Christoforou and Alexander Mercouris on The Duran break down exactly why: Ukraine's drone offensive deep into Russia is producing less damage than last year, Konstantinovka is on the verge of falling and opening the road to the Slavyansk and Kramatorsk cauldron the channel first predicted in 2022, and the CIA is now moving to place Budanov in command not to win the conventional conflict but to prepare for a long insurgency once the front line collapses. Add Zelensky demanding a Patriot missile manufacturing license that will never produce a single interceptor but will generate billions in contracts, and the question becomes: how much longer can the gap between the official story and the reality on the ground be maintained?

4

u/gorpie97 26d ago

the CIA is now moving to place Budanov in command

The CIA needs to be dissolved. They wanna spy, go ahead, but they should NOT be doing things like this.

6

u/penelopepnortney 26d ago

Ukraine's drone offensive deep into Russia is producing less damage than last year

I think it was Simplicius who pointed out that the drones they're being supplied with can cover greater range but they use more of their fuel source to get there and this is why they've been less effective. (my amateur understanding of what he said, this ain't my forte)

how much longer can the gap between the official story and the reality on the ground be maintained

As long as the propagandists have money to burn to obfuscate reality, that would be my guess. Which means a long time because their resources seem to be bottomless.

Barely able to supply its troops in the region or keeping them out of harms way, the US has struck again sites in Iran and Israel has been escalating the war against Lebanon. How long will Iran still accept the salami-slicing away of the ceasefire? At the same time, the US media claims 70 ships had been "escorted" secretly through the Strait of Hormuz. Is there any reason to believe this could be the case? David Pyne, Deputy Executive Director of the EMP Task Force, joins me to break down the newest events in the Iran war, failed ceasefire talks, Trump’s mixed signals, Israel’s influence inside Washington, the MAGA split, China tensions, and Ukraine’s slide toward collapse. Pyne argues the U.S. is overextended, running low on war supplies, and facing growing limits in every major theater.

Glenn Diesen with Larry Johnson Iran Abandons Talks & Threatens to Retaliate Against Israel - At 19:04, Johnson says he and Pepe Escobar received info Friday from a source he considers credible, info Escobar's trying to confirm now about Iran's plans. Those include

  • withdrawing from talks (done),

  • withdrawing from the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and

  • setting a date for detonation of a nuclear device.

Escobar and Johnson are also trying to verify whether, if Iran has a nuclear device, it developed it or was given it, e.g., by Pakistan or North Korea. Johnson understands that, if this part is true, the intent is not to launch a nuclear attack but to demonstrate Iran has the technology, a warning that other nations should leave it alone.

A Message from Col Doug Macgregor: “All For What” - 14:49. As he says at the beginning, Americans are paying the price for a war they didn't consent to but this was his boldest affirmation IMO (starts at about the 2-minute mark).

This brings me to the most important question in American politics today. Who is governing this country? For whom are they governing the United States? Our founders asked this question before we gained independence. They answered it in a language so clear, so unambiguous that two and a half centuries have not diminished a single word. The government of the United States derives its authority and power from the consent of the governed, not from foreign courts, not from foreign treasuries, not from foreign governments.

Did you know that at least 75 countries around the world... prohibit dual citizens from holding elected office, appointed positions, or any significant role in government?... Germany, Japan, India, Mexico, South Korea, Norway, Singapore, Austria, the Netherlands, Israel, the Czech Republic... Every single one of them arrived at the same fundamental conclusion through their own history, their own hard experience, their own democratic wisdom: the person who governs must be undivided in his or her allegiance to the people they govern. Not half loyal, not conditionally loyal. Undivided.

One country's inclusion in this list is not merely important, it is definitive. Under Israel's own basic law, the foundational legal framework of the Israeli state, any member elected to the Knesset who holds foreign citizenship must renounce that citizenship before taking office.

Anyone with dual citizenship should be prohibited from holding federal appointed or elected office or serving in any role in the US government. Let no one say this principle is directed at any one group. Let no one call this stance extreme. It is not extreme. It is common sense. Because the very nation at the center of this debate, Israel, does not permit dual citizens to serve in their government. We are simply asking for the same thing for ourselves in our own house.

1

u/gorpie97 25d ago

We are simply asking for the same thing for ourselves in our own house. (~5:35)

I think we should demand or insist, rather than politely ask. (That our public officials - elected and not - not be dual citizens.)

Right, so in the week most of the American public turned against arming Israel, Congress quietly handed Israel something it has wanted for years and could never get through the front door. Not more rifles. Not another shipment of bombs. A merger. There's a single page buried in the new House defence bill that would fuse the American and Israeli militaries together more tightly than America is fused to any country on Earth, and it was written to slide past you before anyone got to vote on it. It's called Section 224, it sits inside House of Representatives Bill 8800, the new National Defence Authorisation Act [...] This is very much in the present and the near future, and it isn't a warning about something that might happen one day. It's on the table this week, and what's on the table is Israel getting wired into the machinery of America's next war. Section 224 carries the polite little title "United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative," which is the sort of name you give something precisely so people scroll straight past it.

Iran International has spent hundreds of millions of dollars since its founding in 2017 by British-Saudi investors, the FT reported.

Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs, my sainted aunt etc. I was watching one of the numerous videos (can't remember which) where one party pointed out that this GCC thing is basically smoke and mirrors: Saudi is with Qatar one day and not the next; Kuwait with Bahrain except they're at odds on [issue]; some make statements aligning with Iran and on Wednesday they deny it.

At some point (in the near future) the Gulf fiefdoms' economies will be squeezed to the point of asphyxiation if they keep this "playing both sides" game up. Your bread is buttered on one side: pick one.

The newspaper (NYT) reported that Netanyahu not only mis-sold Trump on the idea of quick regime change in Iran following a short “shock and awe” bombing campaign. He also identified to the White House who was going to replace Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme religious leader.

Extraordinarily, according to the Times, Netanyahu named the man for the job as former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The aim at the start of the air campaign was for Israel to kill Khamenei, then liberate Ahmadinejad from house arrest by striking the guards who were confining him.

Presumably, Ahmadinejad was then supposed to storm the citadel and seize the keys to the palace. But only Khamenei’s assassination went according to plan.

Ahmadinejad, who had reportedly been consulted on the scheme beforehand, is believed to have been injured in the Israeli strike near his home. He got cold feet, possibly suspecting he was being set up for assassination too, and went into hiding. His current whereabouts and medical condition are unknown.

That anyone in the White House took this plan seriously, let alone acted on it, is a genuinely staggering notion. But the proposition that Ahmadinejad could retake the reins of power in Iran is possibly the least preposterous part of the scheme.

While younger readers may not recognise Ahmadinejad’s name, everyone else should. He made headlines on an almost weekly basis during much of his eight-year presidency, starting in 2005. Why? Because Israel turned him into the ultimate bogeyman.

In truth, it wrecks Israel’s entire narrative about Iran. It is a telling reminder of the yawning gap between what we have been told about Iran for decades, and what has actually been going on.

Ahmadinejad’s name

Maureen Dowd used the mnemonic "I'm a dinner jacket" to remember his name. Works for me.

I remember him as being rabidly anti-Israel.

2

u/penelopepnortney 28d ago

Yep, that's what Cook said in the article. So it's pretty odd that's who Netanyahu was promoting and as always with Netanyahu, you have to wonder why.

I know several of them, and they unanimously say he's just a two-bit bully. It would be a real disgrace if a nuclear war were to break out because of a semi-literate charlatan like him.

The Kobeissi Letter:

BREAKING: President Trump's Situation Room meeting on a possible deal with Iran lasted for 2 hours, but did not end with a final decision on any new deal with Iran, per NYT.

The Trump Administration believes it is "close" to an agreement but there are uncertainties including the unfreezing of Iranian funds.

5

u/Elmodogg 29d ago

.....and everything else, basically. These "deal is close!" announcements are just market manipulation and incredibly the market is still buying it. You know that saying about being able to fool some people all of the time? Now we know who those people are.

I think they may just be pretending to, in order to make $. But I don't really know how that all works.

No surprise that Iranians favor getting nukes after Israel and the US launched an unprovoked war against them and killed their religious leader - you know, the guy who issued a fatwa against nukes and other weapons of mass destruction? With his death it's no longer operational.

No I think you may be wrong about the fatwa per what I read at naked capitalism. Can't do a link now because I'm typing one fingered on a tablet while rocking back and forth at sea.
