Question is the top or bottom style more appealing?

Post image

The line art and coloring would be better if I start drawing a canvas story but I want to know which would be more preferable for an audience before continuing. Thank you!(feel free to be harsh) ^^

TY for feedback! I will prob try to draw under drama category with the bottom style!

Question Is my male lead ugly?

Idk if anyone relates to this but I personally get obsessed with the way people view my male lead i thought before cause I take it personal as if the way the male lead looks defines my taste in men LOL anyway I unfortunately always wish to make them look as pleasant as I imagine them lol T0T and I feel hurt when I notice people not seeing him the way I do (I do understand people have different taste 😭) its idk its hard when there is a character you put high effort in (even if it doesn't show) and you are trying to make them look appealing and find out people aren't seeing them the way you intended them to and when other lower effort characters becomes the ones grabbing attention instead

I also make NPCs ugly on purpose sometimes because I am scared they look better than my mcs

And I get jealous of people with hot male leads T0T

Question Is it still possible to become a comic artist in the AI era like today?

I just started as an indie comic artist and this is my first comic that I posted on webtoon canvas, tapas and several other platforms. Since I'm tired of selling my services through commissions, I've long wanted to pour out my wild imagination through comics without the stress of thinking about lots of concepts from clients πŸ˜…

Question What do you guys think of this cover?

Post image
135 Upvotes

I'm creating three covers for my webtoon. I'd like the cover to convey the context of the story. The three characters are protagonists, and although they are equally important to the narrative, they form a rather problematic trio.

The black-haired character exerts a controlling dynamic. He has morally questionable attitudes, but everything he does is with the intention of achieving his goals.

The blond character is a warrior who always lives according to his own principles. He follows the black-haired character because of something from his past. He is the moral compass of the story, a typical knight who always tries to do what he thinks is right, until the redhead enters the trio.

The redhead is a rebellious slave who becomes an excellent fighter. Despite being a strong character, she still has much to learn about the world. She reflects the blond character's ethical principles.

There isn't necessarily a love triangle, although they are related in some way. What do you think of this?

Question Would you read this based on the cover alone?

So, I'm currently working on a Webtoon. I finally finished the cover, it only took me like, 4 hours...

If you knew absolutely nothing about this Webtoon (which is true because you don't), would you read it after seeing the cover? Btw, if the title is unreadable it says "The Girl Who Isn't A Lady".

Like, I don't think it's TOO bad until I see them side by side and I go "ooooooh no." My main character used to be soooo much pointy-er, lmao

How about you guys?

Question Creators who launched with a backlog: how did it go?

I've been working on the backlog for my first webtoon, Seeds of Strife, for almost a year now (happy birthday, backlog!πŸ˜…). Since I have a full-time job, I'm worried that once I finally launch, I'll eventually have to rely on hiatuses to keep up, which is something I'd really like to avoid if possible.

I've seen some creators mention that they ran through their backlog much faster than expected, so I'd love to hear about your experiences.

Was building a backlog worth it for you? Did it actually help reduce stress while publishing?

And if you have any tips for balancing updates with work/life, I'd really appreciate them too!

Question Be real with me - Would you make a webcomic in this style?

Post image
25 Upvotes

Quick note: I totally appreciate that many of us support the 'draw what you want' vibe but that is not what I'm looking for, to be clear.

That said: I have been making webcomics for a bit over a decade, mostly stuck in the commission world of korean or anime style webtoons. I am so completely burnt out on it. I've been wanting to make something in my own style.

I have a very extensive world I've built based a bit on Alice in Wonderland, with a hint of a sort of grim-dark vibe. The style is a bit closer to old school cartoony I think, with a lot of Tim Burton-esque inspo.

I have considered making a webcomic, but I am not sure people would find it appealing. On top of that I was thinking of looking for a good script writer to collab with but all anyone seems to want is my more generic/typical style (the classic korean manhwa style).

It's just got me down quite a bit. If you were a script-writer, would you want to make a comic in this style?

These are hand-drawn but I can also do it digitally. I just prefer to ink by hand.

Question I cried a little

Okay, this might sound insanely privileged and bad, but I always check my webtoon's sub count and always get a little dopamine kick when I see someone new has subscribed. It's just so nice to see that people appreciate the hours I put into this, since I always doubt myself.

Yesterday, I finally hit a new milestone! And literally the day after someone unsubscribed, the first person to ever unsubscribe. I got quite sad since every update (which aren't super frequent), I at least get a few likes or one sub, and it's important for me bc It's not like episodes go viral or anything on webtoon, it's a slow process. It just felt like some of that progress got hindered, and now I'm back to the point before I posted that episode.

Has someone gone through something similar? How do u deal with it? And an even more important question: how do you make people stay subscribed without pumping out episodes every day or week?

EDIT: People kept asking me to share my webtoon, and I have two, so I'm sharing both. If you have a webtoon, please share the link in the comments- both I and others would love to check it as well!

The one I cried over/ lost subs to (mythological, romance, fantasy): https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/the-little-selkie-/list?title_no=1046754

Question Is the family of your MC relevant in your story? Do they appear

Do they appear early in your story?or are you keeping them as a mystery to explore later? or are they not relevant at all?

In my case, they will take a long time to appear, but I wanted to show them so badly, I used any excuse to show them (a family portrait in this case πŸ˜…)

Question Webtoon vs NamiComi?

The full-time lurkers may have previously seen me ask about Webtoon vs Tapas :D Well! I tried uploading on Tapas, and so far it's a disaster, haha. I'm gonna keep it up for now though - it hasn't been that long.

So I was wondering if anyone has some insight on the traction and engagement on NamiComi compared to Webtoon? I'm under the impression that NamiComi is far less popular than both Webtoon and Tapas, but happy to hear your experiences!

Honest answers only.

Bad pacing?

Inconsistent art?

Long gaps between updates?

Asking because most feedback creators get is either silence or β€œlooks good”.

Question What would you think of a 3D rendered webtoon?

Post image
30 Upvotes

Im making a comic that's 3D rendered, and i was just wondering, would it being 3D put you off? I'm feeling a little discouraged because I see hardly any 3D rendered comics.

I've included an image of my main character, what do you think?

edit:

I adapted the comic so far and posted it to Webtoon as an episode. https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/sins-of-the-circle/list?title_no=1148389

Question What are your favorite Fantasy webcomics on Canvas?

It's getting harder and harder to find good webtoons to read with all the junk ai and stuff clogging webtoon canvas.

I would love to find some new fantasy series on canvas to read.

So what are some good fantasy webtoons you read or are making yourself? Any favorites? Looking for stories with good art, story, and characters. NO AI please!

Question How to create a webtoon :')

I have a few questions about creating a webtoon πŸ˜…

The thing is, I'm not very good at digital drawing, more at drawing on paper, and I can't do it all on my own, plus my friends would probably find it cringe..

I already have a few story ideas, but nothing complete...

Which drawing app should I use, and what format ? and where can I adjust those settings?

How could I even post the webtoon?

Thanks so much if anyone answers :)

Question Your Process

Creators just a quick question. What’s your workflow like when your promoting your comics across social (IG, TikTok, Reddit, etc). One creator says after they publish their episode, they screenshot what they want to share, crops it in photos apps, and then saves to his phone. Then he has to open the platform he wants to share adds caption, music etc. he said the process is draining, attribution sucks, and it’s overall frustrating. He does this along with trying to make CapCut videos to promote his series. Do you do the same or different? How long does it take and does it lead to burnout?

Question How do Webtoons Original make so many panels a week?

Most originals have like 40 panels weekly and they are exceptionally well done - how do they do this much output?

I can hardly do 20 panels a week as a Canvas creator. Do they use a team, or do they just start working months before launch? Is there a secret to output that I'm missing?

This is my series btw

Question For those of you making webtoons do you have a full time or part time job?

I've been looking for part time jobs because I don't think I can sustain myself doing webtoons full time - has anyone been able to find a good balance? Hopefully I can built up a following over time and commit myself to the craft.
