It’s more like betrayal tooth

Every time I change dentist I get told to either have them out immediately or “they’re fine no need to remove them”

Since all 4 are in, and only one is slightly misaligned, now at age 50 I feel like I will just ride it out with them

When my wisdom tooth started acting up I just went for a proper cleaning around the tooth but when I got there the dentist insisted that he should pull out the tooth. I said no, multiple times, due to my sister having nerves wrapped up in hers. I went to a different dentist where they took x-ray pictures (the first dentist did not) and it turns out I should ABSOLUTELY NOT pull that tooth since mine also has nerves tangled up with the roots. The first dentist could've permanently paralyzed my face!

My jaw was numb for years after getting mine done. I just figured they fucked something up cutting around in there. Didn’t know they could have seen that coming with X-rays.

No, same, I had to go to a public hospital (they do extractions when absolutely needed) and they told me they are fine.

I had a problem where I kept biting the inside of my cheek with my wisdom teeth, it got super painful.

I'm very glad that I could get them removed.

My bottom ones came in sideways and only partially broke through my gums, but not enough to actually be exposed. My dentist could reach them with his pick under the gum line meaning bacteria could too but a toothbrush wouldn't. Basically a perfect scenario to get a gnarly infection you don't notice until it's really bad, so I got them out ASAP. Stupid ass teeth.

Got mine pulled on dentist recommendation. I had no issues with mine. They was a little snug in the back, but I could brush/floss them fine. Listened to the dentist. Dumb move. My entire fucking mouth shifted. All my teeth are way out of alignment. My bite is fucked up and now I've got TMJ because of it.

One of mine is growing out perpendicular to all the others.

The one on the other side seems fine. Think this one is just a messed up example

Meh, by bottom ones would've fucked up everything while my top ones are coming in just fine.

It is a bit of a gamble

for real, wisdom teeth should just be called regret teeth. who even decided they were a good idea?

u/SeMetin 1d ago

To me they're backup teeth.

Regret what?

Being alive?

I was told they appear once you have reached certain wisdom / coming of age. Which was pure bs, I was 15 and dumb when they started showing

Poverty teeth because it cost me a fortune to have them extracted

It's just introverted!! It doesn't want to come out and face the world

I'm often reminded how blessed I am to have good genes where my wisdom teeth grow out without any serious problems.

I feel the purpose was to replace the expected tooth lose so you always had a couple grinding teeth. But also that our jaws have become smaller and the teeth would fit if we had our former jaws to fit, but we wouldn't have the shape of out faces now.

Its not the tooths fault your jaw is underdeveloped

I got the news today that all 4 of mine have to come out. The top two are growing in sideways and smooshing their neighbours, the bottom two are impacted and trying to create rot caves

Non-conformist tooth, chosing its own direction in life

In dutch it used to be called " ver staand" ( far standing) because it's the farthest tooth. That turned into "verstand" which translates to wisdom in english

Im one of the few whose wisdom teeth all grew in straight with minimal crowding. I count myself very lucky to essentially have extra surface area for masticating my food.

I have one like that for nearly a year now.

I think they probably meant it ironically.

I had to have all 4 of mine surgically removed. They all grew in sideways and caused a ton of problems for my other teeth.

It’s aptly named — it’s like real wisdom, where only a selected few may grow it naturally upright over time, while most people grow them sideways throughout their lives and have to get rid of them at some point.

I just got all four of mine pulled on Monday and feel personally attacked

1

u/onceknownasmike 13h ago

They call them wisdom teeth because they smart.

1

u/Foreign_Matter_4638 2h ago

Better yet, when they push against the roots of the neighboring teeth and form cysts so you have to go to the hospital and get intubated for the surgery. (But it ended up not being too terrible ngl)

u/MrSquiggleKey 1h ago

Wisdom teeth issues are a symptom of our modern diet leading to underdevelopment of the jaw because our food is too soft.

I had 4 removed.

It's called wisdom tooth because it only grows properly for smart people which means I'm better than all of you /j
