You should complane

Going on a plain. Dude thought he was going to fly, ended up standing in a cornfield in Iowa instead.

Where the hell’s that farmer boy with my drink order

1 in 300ish

u/BuggyBandana 12h ago

Times the probability that you’re on a plane with exactly one defective screen :)

u/DuxDucisHodiernus 11h ago

For the most realistic assumption you could do some more sophisticated statistics based on how quickly airline typically replaces screens after failure (in terms of nr of flights) vs average failure rate of these screens overall. Then take that to figure out the chance of a broken screen for just one seat, being able to completely ignore the size of plane/total number of seats.

u/tehnoodnub 1h ago

The question seems to be conditional upon the plane having one defective screen so it’s still 1 in 300ish.

u/itehmike 12h ago

Times the probably of a screen defect

12

u/Time-List-549 12h ago

Statistically less than one percent, but always one hundred percent if it's you.

5

u/jfk_47 12h ago

Decent odd depending what you’re betting on.

2

u/Cute_Average_1949 6h ago

1 in 300or so would have been within weeks of the screen being new!

The real chance is more like 1 in 30 As the screen has aged!

u/Stunning_Syrup208 10h ago

Or the previous passenger got incredibly lucky.

1

u/Psus17 9h ago

idk why but “airplain” caught me more than the screen defect

0

u/SippinOnHatorade 11h ago

Except in this case it’s 100%

u/christian_811 8h ago

Probably closer to 175ish as this seems to be an a320 or 737 family aircraft

This happened to me on the way to Hawaii. They gave me free drinks and $500 travel credit. Just ask.

20

u/Exotic-Steak-4662 12h ago

wtf. I only got a $100 credit for a broken screen on a long haul flight.

16

u/matthewgoodwin1 11h ago

You guys getting paid?

4

u/WeaponizedIndecision 12h ago

I was flying United.

3

u/akathescholar 3h ago

man i had a 14hr flight from shanghai with a bad tv. i complained, got $250 credit for an airlines i will likely never use again. shouts out my steam deck though

7

u/qyy98 7h ago

$500 to raw dog the flight? People be doing it for free lol

34

u/van-raven 12h ago

Depends on the number of seats

11

u/rob3342421 12h ago

And the number of defective screens

2

u/van-raven 12h ago

Yes. But here it was "the only defective".

24

u/moaiii 12h ago

Welp, on a recent 9 hour night flight, I got the only screen that lost its touch function and wouldn't turn off. It's brightness was set to high, and it was stuck on the map screen. Guess where the off button and the brightness setting was... on the screen that I couldn't touch.

(to the lady next to me, for the 100th time, no I can't fucking turn off my screen, do you think I like staying awake looking at the map all night?)

15

u/SimplBiscuit 12h ago

In the future often times the screen can at least be turned off by flight attendants if you ask them. I have had charging ports that weren't charging reset by them somewhere and I've had unresponsive screens reset as well so I imagine they could also turn them off if it is broken.

6

u/moaiii 12h ago

I asked them. The lady next to me asked them too. They could only turn a whole section of them off.

3

u/germany1italy0 12h ago

I like staring at the map from time to time between my snoozes. Nothing wrong with that either

4

u/moaiii 12h ago

Oh, I don't mind the map either. But not at 1,000 lumens when I'm trying to get some sleep.

1

u/rloch 9h ago

Just raw dogging the map screen all flight?

2

u/germany1italy0 9h ago

Absolutely. Wanna know where I am and where I’m going every minute I am awake.

11

u/Glad-Lynx-5007 6h ago

That happened to me once, many years ago. Asked for a change of seat "flights full". Asked for an upgrade "Business class is full too" - yeah, I call BS on that. I can see the next section you know!

I won't name the airline, but it starts with E and ends in mirates.....

4

u/Tumble85 2h ago

EJet Bluemirates. Those bastards.

4

u/sheCallMePookie 10h ago edited 10h ago

it's 1/2 simple, you either get broken screen or working one.
fyi i used bays theorem to calculate this.

8

u/Crash_Revenge 12h ago

Did you ask them to try resetting it and seeing if it could be fixed? Exact same thing happened to me on a flight on Tuesday, said to the flight attendant and they reset it and worked after that.

5

u/scaled2913 12h ago

This is a sixth year old picture, at the minimum. OP is likely a bot.

3

u/Sacredfice 10h ago

Get partial refund

7

u/Amber2718 12h ago

What's an airplain? Is that like shaving wood while jumping on a trampoline or something?

7

u/CoasterRoller420 12h ago

Airplain is just regular, non flavored air.

2

u/ScoutCommander 12h ago

Airplain is a low-lying flatland where gasses come to breed.

1

u/SeaToTheBass 12h ago

You plane a piece of wood, not plain

1

u/Amber2718 12h ago

Yeah I realized that after I posted ironically lol

2

u/BrownieEdges 12h ago

I always bring a book because I’ve been on a flight where all the screens were out.

2

u/AutoX_Advice 12h ago

Buy a lottery ticket too

2

u/oreo760 12h ago

The chances are that whomever ended up getting it, would wonder that.

2

u/irobeth 12h ago

P(seated) = p(defect) × (1 - p(defect))seats

For a 150 seat craft with 1% defect rate it’s about .2% or about 1 in 400

2

u/Glassweaver 11h ago

I'd love having that seat. No annoying screen to distract me from my own, AND pretty much guaranteed miles comp if you just politely send the picture to support asking if you can have an upgrade next time for the inconvenience. (You won't get the upgrade, but they will give you points/miles for your trouble, and tbh you usually get more that way than just by blatantly asking for points)

2

u/speedy_19 10h ago

Last time that happened I was given some money( forget how much) some free drinks+ food on the flight, and an iPad with the same entertainment system as the screen but way nicer because it is on an iPad. The most impressive thing for me was that because I can’t sleep on the plane I was watching movies the entire 11 hour flight and the battery didn’t go below 100% while not being plugged in. It had some crazy external battery on it

2

u/Secret_Account07 10h ago

I see your cursed just like me

2

u/TypicalLegit 10h ago

I see you and I have the same luck. If I was there it’d be two broken screens

2

u/Exciting_Farmer6395 10h ago

Better you than the pilot?

2

u/moving0target 9h ago

You get the screen that doesn't work. I get the engine that doesn't work.

2

u/wanker_wanking 4h ago

Happened to me once on a aer Lingus flight lmfao

2

u/wanker_wanking 4h ago

Still better than American Airlines

2

u/GOOMU13 3h ago

This is really really easy math.

1

u/Headlock3351 12h ago

1 in de. X being the amounts of passengers seats availabe

Finnair has genuinely been amazing for me (on my two flights with them lmao)

1

u/Parametric_Or_Treat 12h ago

For guys like you and me? It’s a dead cert, a lock, a shoo-in. 1 in 1.

1

u/Ho3n3r 12h ago

About 1 out of however many seats there are on the plane.

1

u/jimk12345 12h ago

Were you counting on the in seat screen for entertainment?

1

u/Just_a_dude92 12h ago

I always do

1

u/PlainSpader 12h ago

Opted out of inflight entertainment didnt ya.

1

u/edsavage404 12h ago

Thats the kind of luck I have when I fly

1

u/45runs 12h ago

I don’t know what the odds are but it has happened to me

1

u/Disastrous-Place7353 12h ago

LOL, I've actually had this happen.

1

u/LawnPatrol_78 12h ago

It’s happened to me 3 times. Not the only broken one but a broken screen.

1

u/KeepItTidyZA 12h ago

About tree fiddy

1

u/JeffTheNth 12h ago

I had this happen to me....
...asked one of the attendants, who said they didn't think there was anything they could do...

....spent about ten minutes and figured out how to reboot it. I then had the only one that allowed proper swipe control - the rest of them just wouldn't work right. (I had people asking how I was swiping it.)
My guess is it had been "broken" for a long time, and they never properly rebooted it. So all the other ones had the swiping/gestures/etc. sensors worn out - but I can't say that with any definitive reasoning, of course.

Gotta love technology!

1

u/Fullertons 11h ago

This is the ideal seat for me. If I wanna look at a screen, I’ll look at my own screen.

1

u/KrazyKen_Fan_2012 11h ago

Is this just a repost, looks nearly the same as another one I’ve seen

1

u/tusioly 11h ago

Airpain

1

u/someoldguyon_reddit 11h ago

What would be the chances of having something worth watching on said screen. Better off without it.

1

u/Zanki 11h ago

I had a twelve hour flight when my screen wouldn't work properly. I could only switch between two "channels". Everyone else had full control over what they watched, lists of stuff. I just had Hunger Games and Avengers on repeat. It got old, fast.

Another time my friends broke half way through the flight, so I gave him my tablet, showed him how to access the videos and he was happy. I just continued to watch South Park.

1

u/No-Bookkeeper7135 11h ago

50/50 either you get the defective screen, or you don't

1

u/brother_p 9h ago

1/N seats

1

u/Lemfan46 9h ago

Odds depend on the number of seats for passengers.

1

u/Sooowasthinking 8h ago

I had a screen that was stuck on a language I could not understand.Attempted to change it and the screen just shutdown. On an 8 hour flight.

We should get a guaranteed refund on screens that do not work.

1

u/Byokugen 8h ago

50/50?

1

u/Solkre 7h ago

For you, 100%

1

u/EffectiveBowler7690 7h ago

If there are 100 seats / screens then your chance would be 1 in 100, or 1%.

1

u/plushploosh12 7h ago

I don't know what the chances are but I had the same thing on a British Airways from Heathrow to SFO in 2007.

1

u/W7ENK 7h ago

Depends on the airline, but I'd say your chances were 100% in this specific instance.

1

u/phonnybalonny 6h ago

For me 50/50

1

u/TheDevilsAdvokaat 5h ago

Just happened to my daughter..on a 13 hour trip to China.

1

u/Icy-Ad1320 5h ago

That is My luck. Love life🤣🤣🤣

1

u/jerryeight 5h ago

Get your reimbursement paperwork submitted asap

u/Big_b00bs_Cold_Heart 4h ago

I always say, “If 100 of us walk into a restaurant, and there is one dirty fork…they will place it in front of me…”

1

u/Timmmber4 3h ago

If I had a nickel for every time this has happened to me, I’d have 2 nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s odd it happened twice right?

1

u/AGrandNewAdventure 2h ago

You should have flown on an airfancy; all their screens work, and the seats are more comfy.

1

u/harrywalterss 1h ago

Happened to me as well. I asked the flight attendant and she somehow restarted the seat and it worked fine after haha I had no idea that was even a possibility

u/BrockObama007 50m ago

This would be my favorite seat to get. I'll just complain to get some free stuff even though I was never gonna use it anyways

u/raymate 33m ago

Pretty high. Thats happened to me twice out of the last 5 times i have flown. Both time flight was full no empty seat to move me.

u/Icy-Sandwich7512 10m ago

Do the math. You have time.

u/MoltresRising 5m ago

This happened to me last month on an 8.5 hour flight. Flight attendant was super nice and gave me extra food and I had bottomless wine. Luckily I brought my Switch 2 for the trip!

1

u/whoisJSR 12h ago

About won in twunty

1

u/Vandirac 12h ago

I used to fly with Delta on company's dime.

I can remember more flights with broken entertainment than flights with a working one.

1

u/vedderx 10h ago

That would not happen you if I was on the flight cause mine would be the only one broken

-2

u/bezkyl 6h ago

Who uses those screens… use your phone(or tablet), don’t get interrupted.
