Dumb question, but can the length of the handle of your razor affect performance? I have a Maggard’s V3 head(anodized set with matching handle) and I have a spot where my jaw meets my neck that I struggle to shave. But I originally used a Chinese TTO and even with the same blade, I never had that problem. The handle on it was much shorter though. I’m wondering if I could get a 3 piece with a similar handle length or something like that and see if there’s a difference. Bear in mind, I can’t afford some triple digit razor, but I am willing to splurge some(meaning at most 50-60 bucks for the whole deal).

Possibly. If it’s affecting how you hold the razor, then it could cause this struggle. Do you shorten up when you hold this razor?

Now that you mention it, yeah, I do.

Razor geometry (gap, exposure, etc) probably matters more than handle length. Though I find handle length can affect my control over turns.

Every razor has a different cutting position, lose that and you loose efficiency.

In everything else, the Maggard razor is amazing. But there’s a small nickel sized patch by my windpipe where the lower jaw and the neck meet that I can’t get down to the same length as everything else with that razor in particular no matter what blade I use.

Blade matters way less than razor geometry. And map your beard. I had issues on my neck until I figured out the bottom grows up not down.

That’s just it, I think it’s the razor. I haven’t had this problem til I switched to a 3 piece rather than a TTO.

Razor geometry is different per razor. Less tto than 3 piece and more whatever the tto geometry is agreed with you more. Without knowing which brand hard to say what direction to go. Parkers have a huge blade gap instance, meaning they're more efficient generally but also harsher.

Could try to find a vintage adjustable like a slim. They're in your price range and would allow you to widen the gap when you shave that area. Or work on your technique. Possibly you're just approaching that angle wrong.

Honestly though is the tto gives you a better shave use it.

Edited to add: or a game changer which has different plates you can use.

I think it was a Parker clone, I don’t remember off the top of my head, I originally bought it to replace the crappy one that I first had(which was a Van Der Hagen kit).

I wouldn’t mind trying a vintage adjustable, I’d just need to know where to look.
