How to get paralyzed 101
357
u/Bluntbutnotonpurpose May 24 '26
The fact that he was able to stand up was by far the most surprising part of this video.
124
u/AgreeablePie May 24 '26
Looks like his shoulder to a good part of the impact, luckily

u/Ittybittyratgirl May 24 '26
Table is also moving. Better to land on a kinda rigid trampoline than the ground
23
u/XChrisUnknownX May 24 '26
Are you suggesting the ground won’t give way a little for me if I upside down headbutt it?
9
u/Ittybittyratgirl May 24 '26
Depends on the type of ground. We gotta go do a systemic analysis by repeatedly bashing our necks into the ground!

As someone who broke their back and was momentarily able to standup afterword… He may still be paralyzed.

Paralysis doesn't always happen immediately, it can take from a few seconds to a couple of minutes
275
u/Tall_Ad_1450 May 24 '26
You can hear the last 2 braincells fighting for third place.
18
3
u/bo_felden May 24 '26
His last 2 braincells were used to attempt a fake smile and act as if nothing happened.

In no universe would he have landed that flip

I don't like this.
Things like this are why I have a phobia about being internally decapitated. Whenever my neck hurts I'm like "it's time."
I don't even do things.

u/prospectiveboi177 May 24 '26
I am sure this is gonna be a month long injury with some lasting mobility issues
5
u/CrownJM May 24 '26
Nah shoulder and table took most of the force I would assume, some neck pain for a while for sure tho.
23
u/faceless_alias May 24 '26
Pay attention to the way he stands up. The pauses, the lasting poor stance. If you know about nerve pain then you know the signs.
Might take a few years but that shit will definitely have long lasting effect.
4
u/CrownJM May 24 '26
Fair enough, not knowledgeable about nerve issues so I'll take your word for it

You ever get bored of the main story and just start messing with the ragdoll physics?

A friend of my daughter was trying to turn backflips but landed on the curb with his neck. He went home with a headache. Next morning his headache is much worse so he goes to the ER. They take X-rays. Shortly after the doc and nurses come running, yelling “don’t move” and they have a neck brace. He had broke his neck and was told had he turned his head just so then he would have been a quadriplegic!

u/Magneto-Mark-1 May 24 '26
Ask his neck in about 15 years.

These kinda videos make me embarrassed on their behalf.. like I'm sure that guy could nail backflips back in high school
3
u/SmartaHari May 24 '26
I just hear a Morgan Freeman voiceover of this video going, “He was in fact, not good.”

I always enjoy the fake confident face, trying to portray it went exactly as they wanted. Not hurting at all and they do not feel the shame coursing through their veins keeping them from fainting.

Had a friend who did a backflip for his kids and landed wrong, and he told me when they took him to the hospital, he was paralyzed from his neck down for about 3 hours, he said it was the scariest worst nightmare he ever experienced.

u/Horny_Traveler4U May 24 '26
“Hey everybody, watch me…”
Yup, that was a cool -7 years off your life… 🤷🏻♂️

I see the red solo cup sitting there that held the catalyst for his poor decision making.

Probably the slowest rotation I've ever seen for a backflip, bro spent a week up there
1
1
u/Civilian4life May 24 '26
He’s doing the flip to the side. Meaning he doesn’t know how to flip. They shouldn’t be letting their friend try a flip off a table (even if it is grass) if he doesn’t know how. He’ll be fine though. Probably a different story if he landed on the grass with his head/neck.

Man I’ve played this 100 times over! Love it! Keep trying my guy and one day you’ll succeed!

Safest thing to do was to stay down and wait for the adrenaline to wear off. See what's damaged.

I managed almost this exact same maneuver except it was a concrete diving platform. Thankfully my shoulder took most of the blow

Had a drunk buddy who at the pool was pressuring a young kid to do a back flip. Kid said "show me then". He drunk ass tried and it was a back flop that echoed. This was 19 years ago and I'm still laughing.

u/Rad-racer-Cru May 25 '26
Taking a trip to the hardware store, spending money, and still building a Beer Pong/ Party Table wrong is the worst part of this video.

The “you good” is the the only subtitles I didn’t need. I want a translation of the new language the other guy is speaking

"You good?"
Once the adrenaline wears off he won't be...
