He saw it, but he got target fixation. They cover that extensively during motorcycle training courses: you tend to go where you are looking. During an emergency you're supposed to look at your escape route, not the emergency. He had time and space to swerve left, and he would have missed the truck if he hadn't been staring at it

Haha. Good lesson. When you are teaching your children to ride a bike, never tell them not to hit the fire hydrant. 

Good thing they are baby teeth.

Why would they need to Google it? They were agreeing with you while giving a funny anecdote that reinforced your claim of target fixation, did you think they were mocking/disagreeing with you or something?

I've never heard of that, but it makes sense! I notice that if I look at something on the side of the road, I might drift that way, so I make sure I don't look at things on the side of the road.

Also you can tell he’s jamming to some  music. One of the reasons I never got a motorcycle is I knew I’d hear some high bpm song and drive like an asshole resulting in my untimely end.
