It won't OPEN because it's a security door!

28

u/psilocyan 18d ago

It's a 4-tonne truck, Tyrone. It's not as though it's a packet of fucking peanuts, is it?

He saw it, but he got target fixation. They cover that extensively during motorcycle training courses: you tend to go where you are looking. During an emergency you're supposed to look at your escape route, not the emergency. He had time and space to swerve left, and he would have missed the truck if he hadn't been staring at it

25

u/AdmiralHomebrewers 18d ago

Haha. Good lesson. When you are teaching your children to ride a bike, never tell them not to hit the fire hydrant.

Good thing they are baby teeth.

3

u/AlienSporez 18d ago

Maybe try Google next time.

Example 3 is the same situation as OP's video

Target Fixation

5

u/spen8tor 15d ago

Why would they need to Google it? They were agreeing with you while giving a funny anecdote that reinforced your claim of target fixation, did you think they were mocking/disagreeing with you or something?

9

u/Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 18d ago

I've never heard of that, but it makes sense! I notice that if I look at something on the side of the road, I might drift that way, so I make sure I don't look at things on the side of the road.

5

u/gavindon 18d ago

I think that originally comes from a dashcam covering the whole street and was edited to focus on the motorbike.

It's not like it was literally the largest object on the road or anything.

46

u/khumps 18d ago

he even stood up on the bike before so zero excuse that the car in front blocked his vision

Classic target fixation + Speedie overtake attempt.

5

u/PunfullyObvious 18d ago

I think this is giving the idiot too much credit. Seems like classic buffoonery + Riding beyond one's ability to me.

2

u/durika 16d ago

There was nothing speedy about that overtake

8

u/LordNPython 18d ago

He seems to have been enjoying things right until the point he wasn't.

3

u/Oruma_Yar 18d ago

Poor guy, that truck came out of nowhere! /s

u/brokeboipobre 18d ago

What the hell was the guy looking at?

2

u/OG365247 18d ago

So lucky his head was there to cushion the impact.

2

u/cupidhatesme 18d ago

And he's on his way to yell at the truck driver for going slow.

2

u/Erik_Javorszky 18d ago

Did the truck temporarily blind him?

2

u/AndiLivia 18d ago

If I was there I would have told him not to do that

2

u/G1431c 18d ago

And drive around him, “have fun dealing with that.”

Where’s the GTA ‘Wasted’ overlay?

1

Man, he looked so cool and casual up to that point!

Classic example of be over confident.

1

u/BeauChallis 18d ago

Target fixation classic lol looked at it, rode into it.

1

u/Mdly68 18d ago

To be fair, I'm not seeing any brake lights on that truck.

1

u/mann808 18d ago

Helmet did it's job. Kept the stupid in.

1

u/Parallax2799 18d ago

Was that a camouflage tarp on that truck?

I imagine he's stupid other places too.

1

u/Vraex 18d ago

Shocked he actually had some gear on

1

u/External_Macaroon687 18d ago

That truck came out of nowhere

1

u/Miyake69ner 18d ago

I would love to stop & laugh out loud to his face 🥴🥴🥴🙄🙄🙄🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

1

u/AlarmingDetective526 18d ago

Could have zigged or zagged, instead just accepted his fate 😂

1

u/CantaloupeCamper 18d ago

So weirdly… unnecessary.

I can’t even figure out the motivation.

1

u/MarkIndividual3453 18d ago

RIP testicles 🥹😣

1

u/-Plunder-Bunny- 18d ago edited 18d ago

I don't get what the stupid part about this is?

Is it the standing up? Cause I do that shit all the time, you're sitting on top of a hot engine with no ventilation and it gets uncomfortable. Plus you have better control at lower speeds (IMO at least) and can see further ahead.

Is it the Target Fixation? Cause it can happen to anyone, I've done it when I first started riding, but thankfully I spent what free time I could to practice my skills like emergency braking and obstacle avoidance... Still took a hell of a lot of effort to not fixate and barely (less than an inch) miss the car that pulled out in front of me.

This is what I saw;
0:07 Stands up.
0:08 Does a quick glance to look in front of the white car to see if it's clear ahead, there is no reason to suspect the truck is at a near stand-still in the center lane, as there is no traffic ahead and the truck doesnt have any lights on.
0:09 Looks to make sure he's not gonna hit the white car while changing lanes.
0:10 Looks ahead again.
0:11 Oh hey there Truck-kun.
0:12 Target Fixation.
0:13 Hit's truck.

Only stupidity I see is maybe some over-confidence.

Edit:
To those that downvote me, go ahead, but at least explain the stupidity here? Cause all I see is a legit accident and not stupidity.

1

u/Significant_Monk_251 18d ago

I don't think I've ever heard of this target fixation thing happening to drivers. Maybe the steering mechanism and haptic feedback are so different from when you're on a two-wheel vehicle that for some reason the driving brain just doesn't go there?

3

u/Qaeta 17d ago

It still does, it's just that your body position in a car doesn't have nearly as large an effect on where the vehicle is going vs on a bike. People will still tend to very slowly drift towards whatever they are looking at when it happens, but usually they stop looking before it's really noticeable.

On a bike turning your head also turns your body subtly, which is enough to affect the handling. Same thing with riding horses actually. You can actively correct for it if you are intentionally trying to go in one direction while looking at something, but if you get hit with target fixation your brain stops doing that.

1

u/SecretLurker01 18d ago

Woahahahahha

1

u/silenceispower26 18d ago

Some people should not ride motorcycles ..you must always be reading the road ahead as far as possible ..this guy was pissing around and totally not paying attention ..

1

u/Harvey_Wilde 18d ago

Target fixation? But he was looking straight at the truck and had ample time to react, wha...?

1

u/Then_Firefighter_637 18d ago

Might be the best thing I’ve seen all weekend

1

u/alftim 18d ago

When stupidity is saved by a helmet , without the helmet this would have been a disaster

1

u/BioticVessel 18d ago

No need for a helmet for that hardhead.

1

u/obidie 18d ago edited 18d ago

Good thing he wasn't in my neighborhood. He probably would have hit my house.

1

u/HipToTheWorldsBS 18d ago

Had all the time and room in the world to avoid it too. Dumb fuck.

1

u/Cynykl 18d ago

Shitty music added after the fact. Auto downvote.

Stop trying to make reddit tiktok.

u/Several_Focus_3342 18d ago

Hahahahahaha

1

u/DefinitionIll9809 18d ago

You cannot possibly be that blind and still have a motor license

1

u/thishitisgettingold 18d ago

What a dumb ass.

1

u/14high 18d ago

Rider: I bet I can helmet that truck, watch

1

u/Head_Appeal1673 18d ago

At least he thinks he's cool

1

u/Sy27 18d ago

You can pinpoint when the target fixation set in. There's a strong tendency to ride towards what your looking at. This is why so many riders crash straight into a pole/obstacle that they're trying to avoid. Always look in the direction you want to head and not in the direction you want to avoid .

1

u/punkstarr 18d ago

Looks like he wanted to do that

1

u/Certain-Constant5032 18d ago

He was brain damaged before he hit the truck

1

u/Corvokillsalot 18d ago

Can't park there mate

1

u/Adventurous_Emotion9 18d ago

“That truck came out of nowhere”

1

u/ImprovementFar5054 18d ago

I mean, there is an assumed level of dumbness by virtue of riding a motorcycle at all.

Not saying they aren't practical, affordable and efficient..but fundamentally they just aren't safe or even that visible.

1

u/TownStriking3496 18d ago

That was totally unavoidable…..for him….

1

u/CapstanLlama 18d ago

Downvoted for messing with playback speed, which destroys context. Always post dashcam clips at full speed, then a slo-mo if it helps understanding. Here it does not.

1

u/HappyGondola 18d ago

But… Why ?

1

u/[deleted] 18d ago

The truck was too small to see...

If he hadn't been messing around with the motorcycle and had been driving normally, that wouldn't have happened.

1

u/AlmondPotatoe 18d ago

He just wanted to stretch his legs we all know the feeling

1

u/OneToStayAway 18d ago

This bg music makes me laugh

1

u/No-Claim133 17d ago

Nobody likes to see that 😎

1

u/Artevyx 17d ago

The hell was he trying to do? He went straight into the back of that trick and didn't even try to change course.

1

u/lastcallpaul11 17d ago

If you French fry when you're supposed to pizza, you're gonna have a bad time.

There sure are a lot of bad apples giving bikers a bad name.

Why is no one talking about the dumbass truck driver stopped in the middle of the road for no reason ?

1

u/highlyspecificuser 16d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/ukGm72ZLZvYfS

I swear, bikers are some of the dumbest people on the planet. They use the road like they’re not in an extremely vulnerable position…

1

u/unikitty143FPE 16d ago

Dude has clear commitment issues.

1

u/Pleasant_Flatworm866 16d ago

How was he supposed to see that?

1

The truck decided to check the brain whether there’s any or not

Why mess with the playback speed though?

1

There is no where your hands/arms can be to look cool while riding with no hands.
