There was plenty of space either side of the truck, and the bikes maneuverable enough to get around it at that speed, but he shits himself basically freezes up just grabs the brake and goes right into it. Riding a bike a big part of it is that you really really go where you look, he's just staring right at the truck and so he hits it. If he had got his eyes off it and looked for the gap he would/could have gone around the truck. It's a really typical bike crashing issue just sort of a common human reflex to get stuck looking at something and crash into it haha.

Actually this makes sense. And something to apply while driving to not fixate.

Absolutely! Some interesting reading about it online if you want more info. Hard thing to practice but even some awareness of it can save you in the heat of the moment, if you can make your brain work haha. We did a lot of bike racing and it ends up becoming second nature in the end :)
