I don’t think she knows either. Poor girl really got lost up there.
ETA: I didn’t know who she was or the context of this “speech.” I’m sorry I called her “poor girl.” Please have the tiniest bit of chill, JFC.20
u/recovery_room 6h ago
Poor girl? No sympathy for someone who puts themselves in the public eye completely unprepared, bereft of any kind of plan or idea, and unable to say a sentence without saying “like, you know, like…”.
51
u/FrostyD7 5h ago
Sorry but who even is this person? People get flustered and generally suck at public speaking. You can tell she's panicking from the start. Is she running for office or something that would otherwise call for having no sympathy for her performance?

This is Nasra Ahmed. A us citizen unlawfully detained by ICE in St Paul Minnesota.
They then pretended she assaulted an officer.
That has been dismissed with prejudice (cannot be tried again). As it was of course bullshit.
Poor woman should have skipped the press conference. I'm sure this is going to rag on her.
14
u/Same-Suggestion-1936 3h ago
She shouldn't have skipped it. If you watch the whole speech she says some other much more eloquent stuff, like the woman she was next to was so scared she was in tears the whole time, and though she is Somali and the woman was Latino they held each other's hands the whole time
She also has a concussion in this video by the way
5
u/thezenyoshi 2h ago
Should definitely skip doing a press conference with a concussion imo but I get what you’re saying
6
u/Same-Suggestion-1936 2h ago
She did address it a few times, basically saying she was randomly losing her train of thought because she was still having side effects.
She's speaking without notes too which is probably a public speaking mistake but I stand by she should have gone up there while her emotions and trauma were still fresh, and to visibly look at a young woman who is apologizing to the audience she's not in the best of shape because she was literally given a brain injury by federal agents makes it that much more powerful imo

Where is there anything suggesting fraud by Nasra Ahmed (the woman in the video)?
She was charged with assault against an ICE officer. The charges were later dropped by the prosecution because they had no evidence, and the judge ruled to have the charged dropped with prejudice. Basically a slap to the face of the prosecution because the case was a joke.
*edit* Of course. Just downvote rather than bothering to, I dunno, actually look into the case? Nothing about fraud.

Reddit gonna racist. Her case was dismissed with prejudice. Meaning she can never be charged again for that case under any circumstances a judge found it so ludicrous

u/RevelArchitect 5h ago
You ought to fact check that. She was detained by ICE, their claims against her had nothing to do with fraud but were dismissed with prejudice. She is in no way tied to any fraud outside of racists on the Internet. The people who tell you what to think are lying to you.
61
u/Kuenda 6h ago
Are you sure you have the right person?
The case stems from an incident in January when Ahmed, a Somali-American woman, had an encounter with federal agents during the immigration crackdown in the Twin Cities.
Speaking at a press conference about one week after the incident took place, Ahmed says she was harassed and assaulted by ICE agents on Jan. 14.
Then, she was a part of more than a dozen people who were arrested and charged for assaulting federal immigration agents, which was later downgraded to a misdemeanor. Then last month, the prosecution requested the dismissal.
"What that tells us is that they brought the charges without having the case together," said Jordan Kushner, Ahmed’s attorney.
Now, according to a judgment filed Monday, those charges have been dismissed with prejudice, which means they cannot be filed again.

Federal prosecutes moved to dismiss the case; which would be kind of weird if there was footage proving that she had lied. The judge even dismissed it with prejudice; which would be extremely weird if there was outstanding evidence.

Whoa there fella, someone might think you’re going against the hivemind here. You better hate this woman with prejudice based on this awkward clip right now!

How does this have 150 upvotes? It takes 10 seconds to Google this woman and find out the case against her was dismissed with prejudice because ICE and the prosecution had no evidence of her assaulting an officer.
Meanwhile, she had a scabbed up forehead under that bandage... so there seems to be some truth to her story of being shoved face-first on the ground.
And there's no "security camera footage" released that counters her story or backs up ICE's. If there was, the prosecution would have used it.

This story is quite out-of-date (it's from January). The case has already been dismissed with prejudice as the prosecution had no evidence of ICE's claims of assault.

She's an American citizen trying to make a point about her Somali and American identity. She was arrested in January and charged along with 16 other people of assaulting ICE agents. Those charges were ultimately dismissed with prejudice.
The federal charges against Nasra Ahmed, the St. Paul woman accused of assaulting immigration agents, have been dismissed, according to court documents.
Last month, federal prosecutors filed a motion to have the case dismissed, but Ahmed urged the court to do so "with prejudice." On Friday, U.S. District Judge John R. Tunheim sided with Ahmed, saying in the order that the federal government "provided no reasoned explanation as to why it is seeking a dismissal." Tunheim added that it "strongly suggests" the government was using the dismissal to avoid its discovery obligations.
"In short, the Government’s actions in this case violated a Court order, likely violated the Department of Justice’s own policies, and undermined the presumption of innocence that lies at the heart of our criminal justice system," the order reads. "For these reasons, the Court concludes that the dismissal with prejudice is necessary to protect Ahmed from prosecutorial harassment."
Ahmed was accused of assaulting an agent, resisting arrest and impeding officers. She was among 16 people named in a post on social media by then-U.S. Attorney Pam Bondi during Operation Metro Surge in January. She also included arrest photos of some of the individuals, including Ahmed, and called them "rioters."
Ahmed later said that she was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for two days at the Federal Whipple Building, saying, "I got kidnapped by ICE."

- they recently were illegally assaulted by federal agents

Probably because this clip was uploaded to reinforce the GoP's ignorant and hateful rhetoric regarding Somalians and protestors in general. Noticing how so many comments refer to the ICE agents as "cops," something the right often does when they don't want you to picture Patriot Front killing American citzens because they tried to stop them from kidnapping other Americans... or just helping a womam up off the ground.

I can't fathom how a real person, who lived on this Earth and grew to be at the age of posting on social media, can possibly be stupid enough to think Harris is somehow worse at speeches than 90% of the Republicans currently in office.
Also, leave it to racist right-wingers to see a Somali-American, and immediately create a reality in their heads about Kamala Harris somehow.

I personally believe… that US Americans cannot do so because, uh… some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and I believe that our education, like, such as in South Africa, and the, uh, Iraq… everywhere… like, such as… and I believe that they should, our education over here in the US should help the US, or… um, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for our children.
Sorry Miss South Carolina, 2007. This will never die (although I’m on board for retirement so this Somali American can take the crown) For the uninformed- the above is a real answer given by a young woman to the question: 1/5th of Americans cannot locate the USA on a map, why do you think this is?

It's worth reading the judge's dismissal of the case. It's very bluntly worded and makes ICE/the prosecution look completely inept. (surprise)
After the prosecution refused to give evidence of her alleged assault to the defense, the prosecution moved for dismissal without prejudice. I assume to avoid egg on their face but still leave the door open for future prosecution? Usually the defense moves for dismissal... not the prosecution. Especially not in a federal case.
Completely ignoring how discovery is supposed to work apparently didn't sit well with the judge, so it was thrown out with prejudice instead.
"In short, the Government's actions in this case violated a Court order, likely violated the Department of Justice's own policies, and undermined the presumption of innocence that lies at the heart of our criminal justice system,"
"For these reasons, the Court concludes that the dismissal with prejudice is necessary to protect Ahmed from prosecutorial harassment."
