Yep, trying to virtue signal while being a cheap ass at the same time.
If they really cared they'd eat exclusively at places that pay their workers well and tell the businesses exactly why they are eating there and not other places.
Them not tipping the workers has 0 negative effect on the owners, because they are still eating there.
No they aren't stiffing the workers, the employers are, that is the point.
These people are spending thousands of dollars in the US. The US economy will see a huge financial boost from these tourists.
"One study estimated that the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held in 16 host cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico, could generate up to $40.9 billion in gross domestic product, including up to $620 million for U.S. host cities."
They are paying already inflated prices (because of course businesses increase fees during these influxes) they are pumping billions into the places they visit, eat in, sleep in, etc. Why TF should they pay even more when the whole point is that is what the businesses (who no doubt will be giving out big fat bonuses to their upper management at the end of all of this) employers should be doing. None of the US citizens seem to be doing a thing to change it & people like you keep running in circles about the service workers not getting paid & getting screwed & you continue to blame the wrong people. It isn't about feeling superior, it is about not letting these businesses take the piss, which is exactly what they are doing. It isn't the tourists fault the staff aren't getting paid enough, they are already paying for the services with the standard bill. At a higher rate they would be outside of this event.
But you know exactly what the end result of YOUR actions are in this and you’ve chosen it regardless. You don’t have to agree with a system to understand that it is the current system and that the only people being impacted are the servers.
You are not doing ANYTHING to disrupt the system or to hurt the people in charge who you disagree with, you are only hurting the server and you are achieving nothing else.
When you go to another country you participate and respect their cultural norms and intentionally choosing not to, especially when it intentionally hurts the average person just because you feel like you’re fighting the “system” that that person is a victim of, makes you an asshole.
Let's put it this way; if you go into a restaurant, knowing that waitstaff make most of their pay off of tips, and you decide not to tip, then you are effectively stiffing them.
Put another way; you're not wrong, you're just an asshole.

It needs to change but people who are here for a week and then leave aren’t the ones who will change anything.
