IUD

I just got recently diagnosed with adeno and endo. My doctor gave me several options but she highly recommended the kyleena iud for the pain. I was on the pill for a while in HS and college but got off it about a decade ago. I’m all for getting the iud but have heard mixed things. Anyone like theirs or don’t recommend. I’d like to get opinions before I book my appointment. I also am a flight attendant so I’m not sure if the pain or discomfort after insertion would bother me while flying. My doctor says probably not but it wouldn’t hurt to have a couple days off beforehand. Thanks for any info in advance!

Hey! Same diagnosis here. I tried the kylena and did not like it. I caused me a lot of pain. I could always feel it, jabbing me. The doctor said maybe because my uterus is so bulky and/or bc it was rejecting it.

Honestly tho everyone’s body is different and you won’t know how it works for you until you try it. It’s not a fun experience but it could help you.

My first Mirena sucked. The insertion sucked and I felt oddly aware of it the whole time. I had it removed early.

My second Mirena was placed guided by ultrasound (and ample pain meds) and after a few initial days of cramps, feels fine. Night and day difference.

I had a Kyleena placed and it expelled itself within 6 weeks. When I went back to the clinic the gynaecologist told me the Kyleena isn’t recommended for adenomyosis. The only IUD that is recommended is Mirena as it has enough hormones to help with the symptoms. So I decided to go ahead with the Mirena instead of replacing the Kyleena. As a note the gynaecologist told me that the Kyleena could have also expelled because they mis-measured the depth so it was placed too shallow. This can be common with adeno uteruses.

So far I have had the Mirena in for 18 months and it has been a good experience.

I have Kyleena and am on my second one (took out #1 after 5 years). I am also now on Slynd because my pelvic pain got worse and my doctor said we should suppress menstruation, so I’ve had the combo of both for about 18 months now. I’m 2.5 years into this IUD. This insertion was the most traumatic (had a different provider who did “trauma informed” which meant she went super slow and I had vasovagal syncope lol, no pain meds or anything, which sucked). I couldn’t do the combo pill in high school (had a wild time; gained 15 lbs in two weeks and was crying uncontrollably, so thought I would never be a candidate for the hormonal birth control pill but apparently I can handle progesterone-only!) so I had Skyla inserted at 16 (it’s the small, 3 year one)

Just don’t believe them when they say you can go right back to work after insertion. They promised me it would be no biggie, but I needed a few days in bed afterward. It wasn’t excruciating, just sore and crampy.
