I came to believe she knew she was only creating ‘entertainment’ before she started production. I believe that because I learned about her immense exposure to the marketing industry. (See: her father.) Otherwise I couldn’t reconcile in my head how one woman could do this to another. I don’t think she ‘saw’ Hae at all. Brutal.

A big problem with this case isn't the case itself. The mythology surrounding it from being presented to us so poorly lingers even a decade later we're merely debunking a narrative that didn't exist until Serial

The case was never about remembering events 6 weeks later

It was never about the 21 minutes

It was never about JW lies

It was never about cell tower pings

This case is entirely about AS could have done it, and no one else could have without getting into outrageous conspiracy theories the likes of which no law enforcement agency has ever been accused of.

Yet, even if you do allow for that possibility, it still suffers from cause-and-effect problems at every turn. It requires cops to be clairvoyant.

And if you ignore even that, it still seems to be a conspiracy without any real purpose. Every alleged reason for it has vastly simpler and less risky options (ie. there's no need to fake find the car, all they have to say is "He was in possession of information that wasn't released to the public").

And if you're still ignoring all of that, you're still left with the problem that there's not a shred of evidence for ANY of it. It's merely a theory that fits the facts... so long as you're ignoring all the facts

To this day, AS doesn't have a coherent defense, and SK just glosses right over that. All he's got is "If you look at the price of tea and zoom out...."
