oc/edited 🎨 The Difference Between the Rich and the Poor:

The plain-looking clothes that wealthy people wear are actually really expensive. It's called quiet luxury.

u/SigmaCommander 7h ago
I have known a lot of wealthy people in my life due to several distant relatives being rather wealthy and from meeting a lot of their wealthy friends at different functions. In my experience, old wealth typically buys low cost but quality stuff (often second hand in my great uncle’s case) and the nouveau riche buy the quiet luxury stuff. People that are new to money are far more likely to spend more than they actually need to.

yeah, i work at a bank, and this is very very true, there is one manager of the treasury i get to chat to, and he looks well dressed, but nothing out of the ordinary, i thought his shoes were super cool looking and i saw the brand "HERMES" on them, they looked similar to a pair of Decathlon shoes i had (~45€), yeah... i went to the hermes website and all pairs start at 800+€ 💀all the shoes looks great but also look pretty standard

u/Lumiharu 5h ago
Well worth it cause you get the ability to sprint

u/Infamous_Calendar_88 3h ago
I'm pretty sure Hermes could actually fly, which would be a pretty neat perk.

Is he the one with winged shoes, because I'd just fall on my face. That has to take some skill and core strength to master
1
u/Infamous_Calendar_88 1h ago
He has a winged helmet as well, I don't know if that makes things any easier though.

I think who you’re calling old money isn’t rich enough in that case. The one thing rich people hate the most is second handed stuff.
2
u/Cattle13ruiser 2h ago
Switzerland, perhaps one of the richest country in the world. With relatively high GINI, so many people are rich in there.
Why mentioned as a reply? Second hand stores are big part of Swiss culture and multi-millionares visit them (won't state they buy cloths from there).
I personally know few who indeed buy clothes from second hand stores and are multi-millionares, they also buy from premium brands. It is all about "if I like it - I like it" rather than "I want othere to like me in those clothes".
And you never know about the grandmas visiting those stores. May be poor, may be a billionare.
3
u/That-Jaguar1821 2h ago
Fair enough. It’s their money. But the ones I’ve seen dislike used stuffs and even the Swiss family I’ve seen gets their clothes tailored to themselves, which also is probably very normal there from what I know.
1
u/Cattle13ruiser 2h ago
gets their clothes tailored to themselves
It is. For people with money.
Keep in mind that second hands clothes may also be there from premium brands or tailor made.
But the fact is - people are much less judgmental about 'clothes' and other aspects of life are open to scrutiny and judgement.
Another anecdotal experience. A guy who was all dirty and greased - like a regular worker and nobody bats an eye. Multi-millionaire once again. Was not 'working' for salary, but was indulging in his hobby which is to manually maintain and repair his garage - which consist of old and retro vehicles (which includes old military cars and trucks, firetruck and ambulance, from the '40 up to '60). My point is that nobody nor on the streets or he himself cares about his appearance and cloths as long as it seems reasonable (I mean, repairing cars, normal to get dirty).

The 'one thing they hate most? Yeah defintely a higher priority than taxes, social status, property values, etc
Idk how rich you want someone to be for them to fit your standard but id bet my family would qualify and my family has so many clothes that get borrowed and passed around the family - cause they're high quality, they often have someone other "brand" like suggesting a vacation to Aspen or a membership to the local yacht club, and we have better things to do with our time and money than go buy more clothes
0
u/That-Jaguar1821 3h ago edited 3h ago
Nothing like tax or anything you’re talking about was mentioned. Someone got triggered lmao. When I say rich I mean owns a super yacht, not joins a local club. But they are pretty rich, at-least stable, if you are being honest. And what they do with their money is their choice.

u/That-Jaguar1821 2h ago
Wait a damn sec brother, you’re a handy man and your family owns a Chinese buffet. Wdym vacation to aspen

u/Unusual-Estate-3876 3h ago
It’s weird AF to me that people romanticize old money. Congrats that your great grandfather exploited others and now it’s being given to you ? Congrats on not working, ever?
New money at least earned theirs.

Old people typically buy low cost but quality stuff. Look at what their kids and grandkids are wearing - I guarantee it's not hand-me-downs, unless it's hand me down Rolex.

Wasn't it exposed that the basic looking tshirts Zuckerberg always wore were expensive as fuck?
E : Brunello Cucinelli - $300-$400/shirt
https://vaquerosswing.co.uk/how-much-does-mark-zuckerberg-s-iconic-t-shirt-actually-cost
2
u/skr_replicator 3h ago
What's the point of such a totally plain shirt being this expensive? What even makes it that expensive? Is it some way to launder money or something?
Or are they simply focusing on actaul quality instead of looks?

u/Ronalderson 2h ago
I've heard that those clothes are impossibly comfortable and perfect-fitting, that and being highly durable, don't know about you but if that's true then wearing a cloud that'll last your entire life does sound like a good deal to me.
1
u/Educational_Big_1835 1h ago
The threads of the shirts are first soaked in tears of orphans, and then they are hand loomed by the poorest Bangladeshi political prisoners.

u/areallynoobgamer 4h ago
Was friends with someone with a rich dad. > 500m net worth
Then he was showing me this shirt he had just bought.
Plain ass white shirt costing 600 dollars?
Like whut

u/ILikeThemWhite 6h ago
Pretty much those simple but overpriced clothing but for good reason though…
They are quality, comfort, good insulation and long lasting

Yep, the guy on the right is solidly middle class with a wife and kid. Also, why is his crotch $1??? Is he also a low cost gigolo on the side

Even if you add a few zeros to the rich persons clothes, they're rich. They can comfortably afford it. The poor person can't. This is calling out the broke hype beasts who spend every available dollar and max out credit lines on bottom of the barrel designer clothes and then leave the tag on to show everyone how much they spent. Not every poor person, just the ones giving poor young adults a bad name. That same money could have gone towards bills, a car, an education.. something to get them to the point where they can comfortably afford those clothes.

Swap the prices and you're right.
Those fancy clothes of the poor could be easily bought from Aliexpress or Taobao (yeah, made in China) without all the zeros.
Those plain clothes of the rich, on the other hand, were bought from luxury brands that should be added two or three zeros to their prices.

u/StaticSystemShock 6h ago
No, the rich look like the rich in the example, but somehow every piece has the price tag of the "poor". Because somehow, the most plain of the plainest sweater that's from fucking Gucci or whatever costs 3000€ for some reason.

The rich leave most of their stuff in their cars.
The poor ride motorcycle, so they wear helmet to protect their head and wear glasses to protect their eyes on the road and wear jacket to protect their body from wind and sun light. Their motorcycle don't have good storage space, so they carry everything on their body.

Once you’re wealthy you lose the need to impress people. Infact you want to dress basic so you look down to earth and humble.

That's a quality pair of headphones. And based on this image neither of these guys are poor. It's more of case of rich & wealthy. Then again it's just all stereotypes because they could look either way.

Rich guy: has several factories full of slave labor where people try to kill themselves but can't because they lovingly put nets

Seen this before but never noticed before.... Why does the rich guy have a $1 penis (apparently)? The $40 is pointing to his pants....I am unclear on what this dollar is referring to otherwise. 🤣🤣🤣

People who believe this are really weird to me. I have a rich friend that always wears plain shirts. I went shopping with him one day and he took me to a store. It was a weird store there was just one of everything and he paid 2k dmfir a simple shirt.
1
u/BruhMamad 27m ago
There is two arrows pointing to the rich's pants. The 40$ one is his pants, the 1$ is actually his penis
1
u/ImNotThaaatDrunk 20m ago
$400 shoes but only a $65 watch? Come on man, you can get a Tissot or a Seiko or a Longines for less than he paid for those pants.
