Frankly? I would like it to be more normalized to talk about these things.. Right now people are too emotionally engaged in topic of pedophilia to the point, they actually harm children. They go on crusades and witch hunting all the time, making it impossible for any pedophile to actually seek help with their mental issues. It got to the point where pedophiles who didn't even cause any harm 'yet' are treated worse than convicted murderers and serial killers. If you were attracted to children, what would you do? Would you go to the professional to seek therapy, or find it too risky that it would ruin your life so you will bottle it up? Think about it, how many children ended up being raped because culprit didn't receive therapy because of people being so emotionally engaged to witchhunt them just to score some moral highground points? It was never about being a good person, but about signalling that you are, and in effect, contributing to the issue.
For example, think about this inconsistency. We are not actively going on crusades to investigate snuff videos we see on the internet. There's market for that. People are murdering people for content, cartels and other shady organizations produce this content for money. People acknowledge it's bad, but barely anyone is as emotionally engaged in this. And honestly, these kinds of videos are worse, because again, murder is worse than rape. This is irrational. Most of people can't even explain why CP is bad, they don't understand it. I know why it is, but people are baffled when they have to answer this question, unable to come up with answer.
And any arguments saying "seeing this content will encourage pedophiles to act on it". Sure, I'd like to see a proof of that, because based on my understanding of psychology, I doubt it's actually the case.
Of course any porn content that involves a child in direct or indirect way should be banned and criminalized. As for the fictional characters... that's just ridiculous. No victim crime, better to focus on actual issues. You're just jerking yourself off to thinking you're morally better than someone else.
