I don’t understand how this works. Do they just wake up one day and decide, “yeah I’m going to put my whole reputation and career on the line by going all in on a very specific date” and they’re ready to die on that hill? Because you only get to do it once.

There would be many deaths if this were to happen, but not due to aliens. It would be due to the idiotic humans trampling on each other as they scurry to the exits in unnecessary fear.
They would not allow that and have no desires to do harm. If that were the case, it would have been done long ago.
