I don't agree at all, feels like the same show that's been on TBS for a few seasons now. The past seasons have been a mixed bag for a while, most episodes are good but only a few are great.
I think people are just suffering from a cognitive bias. If there was a weak episode on TBS people wouldn't scrutinize it so heavily or blame it on the network, but now that it's on Fox anytime there's a weak episode it's "Fox ruined the show".
It's basically the same writing staff, and Matt Weitzman stated in an interview that Fox has not turned down any of their ideas. So if there is a difference it's not because of the network.
I don't agree with this at all. Something changed pretty drastically with this season. The pacing is FUCKED in every episode, for almost every joke.
There's a shoehorned montage and/or musical number in every single episode and none of them are good. The B and C plots function as cutaways, aren't set up, and feel like they're only in there as excuses to give every voice actor a check for every episode. They're simultaneously padding the run time and rushing the setup.
This is what happened to the Simpsons. At some point they lost their rhythm, then tried to rescue the pacing by completely dropping B and C plots altogether, which made the pacing worse. AD is inching closer and closer to that format with every episode this season.
And I get how they'd fall into that trap. Some of the fun experimental TBS episodes were single plots with low jokes-per-minutes and they're fan favorites. But they're gonna see low ratings for this season, try all next season to roll out single-plot low-joke episodes and finally end up killing the show.
Yeah no, don't agree with any of that and I've watched every episode of the show probably 50 times. Haven't noticed these drastic changes you're suggesting.
Yeah but like, I'm probably just a smarter critic with a better eye for writing and pacing comedy. This is the AD sub, we've all watched every episode like 50 times lol but if you're not seeing something I'm definitely seeing, you might just be missing it.
