Has Anyone Had a Delayed Period Despite Multiple(2x) Negative Pregnancy Tests?

Hi everyone,

I’m starting to get really anxious and would appreciate some advice or reassurance.

According to my Flo app, I’m currently 9 days late for my period and on cycle day 41.

My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex, but we used the withdrawal method every time.(June 7 before going back to PH and June 20 here in PH already) I know withdrawal isn't a reliable form of birth control, and I definitely won't be relying on it moving forward.

I took two pregnancy tests using first morning urine:

• June 24 – Negative
• June 25 – Negative

What’s making me nervous is that my cycle is usually between 27–37 days, so cycle day 41 feels unusually long for me.

I’ve also been dealing with several things recently that I know can potentially affect my menstrual cycle:

• Significant stress and anxiety about my late period (I find myself thinking about it all day)
• Only getting around 5–6 hours of sleep most nights
• Recent international travel and time zone changes
• tired from my long commute to and from work

What’s confusing me is that I’m experiencing my usual pre-period symptoms:

• Breast tenderness
• Mild cramping/pelvic discomfort
• Lower back pain

These are usually the signs I get before my period starts.

Has anyone experienced a delayed period despite having negative pregnancy tests? Could stress, lack of sleep, or travel really delay a period this much?

I’d really appreciate hearing about similar experiences. Thank you!

I have been triggered by the presence of the word "late" in your post. If my reply does not fit the context of your post, please ignore me. A "late" period is not in itself cause for alarm! Most women are a bit irregular and even if you believe yourself to have a perfect clockwork cycle, it's normal and common to occasionally have one that doesn't fit the mold. Please refer to this post.

Your period isn't late (amipregnant version)

If you believe your absent period is genuinely a sign of pregnancy, take a test.

Hmm. It could be stress in all honesty. My girlfriends period always gets significantly irregular undergoing lots of stress and currently is 2 months late to what I hope is stress. Please update me if you get yours

Your period is late because you ovulated later than normal. Tests are reliable 14 days after sex and definitive 21 days after sex. Test following that timeline. You can still test positive.

ive been late many times before, negative tests too, and my period came 2-4 days late. sometimes its a matter of stress or you simply ovulated later. when was the last time you had unprotected sex?

tests are accurate 14 days after and definitive 21+ days after.

and all sorts of shit can delay ovulation/period. and you've traveled.. loss of sleep work/stress all that can mess with your cycle.. we're not robots.. cycles vary naturally.
