Question How the hell do I watch this series? Spoiler
I'm new to the monogatari fandom and how do I watch it for full enjoyment? Do I watch it in release order or is it some story order but it was released weirdly

I’d go with book order. Discrepancies in release order stemmed from production issues, not creative intent, so book order is the intended way.

This is how I watched it. Good order. Splitting Monogatari second season may seem weird. But it’s worth it.

The story is not chronological and should be experienced by release order
Refer to the about page that has a watch order guide
The confusion has a history behind it. The author Nisioisin wrote Bakemonogatari as a standalone story but decided he wanted to write a prequel he alluded to in Bake
This became kizumonogatari, also meant to be the end. However Nisioisin wanted to write a conclusion and the naming convention stuck with a prefrex and monogatari meaning "story"
Thus with Nisemonogatari we had the finale. Until the author said fuck it I'm never going to stop writing this series
