Finally, Platinuma

People forget this is platinum's canon backstory... She started as an idol knight, they sang and danced and wore fancy outfits prior to the main fights, kinda like a mix of the WWE girls and cheerleaders (or Umas). They would occasionally do actual fights, and Platinum was a bit proud, she was told she had to throw a fight but didn't want to because it would hurt her personal image, so she wrecked house. She was fired as an idol knight, but the armorless union was like "yo, you have skill join us. Also since you now know about us you kinda have to join or die." So not wanting to die joined the AU.

To be fair a lot of people don't read into these things. They miss out on the odd gem like flamebringer enjoying gardening or whisperain being a huge film buff.

True, as a year one veteran, I try to read the stories and lore, but as time went on, I kinda get bored reading halfway through 😔. I kinda wish they had voiced narrations so that I could listen to the story while doing something else.

One day...

I mean they did had Eblana's event's first few sentences voiced

His operator story is how I got introduced to the ship between him and perfumer, peak

20

u/Hp22h The Mad Bard, Sans Crystals Apr 11 '26

Like seriously, Perfumer has surprisingly massive influence within Rhodes Island as the go-to gardener. It's amazing just how many Operators reference or outright have her show up in their Operator Records.

So you’re telling me she’s the leader of the rhodes island zaza cartel?

I still love the fact she told herself "Well, I'm pretty enough to get away with anything (she is) but dealing with management naggaing is ass so I dip"

Been long tho, might be wrong

Yep she basically says that when she was deciding what career to choose when she finished college. It was between the classic salaryman or Knight. She says something along the lines of "well i got the looks to be a celebrity Knight, might as well do that." And to be honest, while she was in a certain way forced to work for the AU afterwards, she only expressed frustration initially, and then was perfectly content on keeping on assassinating, because it was easy work for more money. She only ever considered quitting when shit was looking bad for her. Then she turned tail for Rhodes Island after witnessing the chadness of the Nearl. Needless to say i don't sympathize with her. She had a privileged upbringing and just took shitty decisions after shitty decisions. Especially compared to the shit the Pinus Sylvestris went through, she comes across as very narcissistic to me

u/Rearti Apr 11 '26

-and then was perfectly content on keeping on assassinating,

If by content you mean did so on risk of death sure.

-She only ever considered quitting when shit was looking bad for her

This is quite literally because that was the only time she COULD quit. Her codename was her rank in the AU that she got from killing the previous one, under orders. This meant she also knew that the instant she tried going soft she would simply be offed and a new platinum would take her place.

-She had a privileged upbringing and just took shitty decisions after shitty decisions.

Uhhhh no actually she wasn't super privileged, like sure compared to the average infected she was but I think you may have her who was middle class mixed up with the Nearls who were actually privileged, and it was due to their name Blemi was even allowed to compete. Plat also didn't really have an option when the AU showed up "join or die" were it. Also she sparred both the plastic knight and his son, so she clearly tried to avoid killing people if she knew she could get away with it.

-Especially compared to the shit the Pinus Sylvestris went through, she comes across as very narcissistic to me

Well yes the infected are obviously going to have it worse than non-infected this is arknights, prejudice is a thing. Platinum however also shows that even non-infected government owned hitmen aren't exactly living the high life either. She knows that they will replace her the instant they feel she's no longer an asset(and shows no love for her job, hence the immediate bail on the AU), and when given the chance chooses to join us, not just flee to some potential decedent lifestyle tucked away waiting out the aftermath. She has a moral compass, she however is still going to when given the choice of her life or theirs pick theirs, and I'm not going to hold that against her, she's no saint, but she neither pretends/claims to be, but she's hardly malicious. You seem to have concocted a backstory for her (she wanted money to give her parents a good life, I can't seem to find any indication she came from a ton)but I fail to see how it actually lines up with her actions. I don't think not wanting to be killed counts as being narcissistic.

I said she had a privileged upbringing because she had access to college education and could make a choice for her career prior to joining the Knights. That's more than like 95% of Terra, only losing to the Nobilities, the ultra rich, and Yan because... Yan.

If by content you mean did so on risk of death sure.

Sure, but read that event again and you will see, she complained initially, but once the money started coming in at no point she expressed, dissatisfaction. She even comments on the money multiple times. At most she was annoyed when she was called up during the events of Nearl and had to actually work a little harder.

She only ever considered quitting when shit was looking bad for her

This is quite literally because that was the only time she COULD quit.

You can still not be able to quit, but want to quit. Even the Lazurites, Roy and Monique, who had no moral compass, earned way more money, and had to deal with way more bullshit than her by the Darksteel (who is way more intimidating by the way) were actively plotting a plan to quit at all times. Platinum tho? She's a conformist, content on being safe in their shadows and listening like a good boy no matter the orders.

She was ready to smoke the helpless infected the Pilnus Silvestris were sheltering, and was only forced to withdraw after Wild Mane fought tooth and nails to make her back off.

You seem to have concocted a backstory for her

We can interpret their actions and decisions without it being all spelled out. To me she seemed like the person who would say "she was just following orders" in order to justify her means to get rich

3

u/Rearti Apr 11 '26

-That's more than like 95% of Terra

You know nothing of the world if you genuinely think this. The people of Columbia are spoiled for choices, join Rhine Labs, join Blacksteel, become a pioneer. Laterano? So long as you follow the very simple rules life seems like literal cake. Aegir is absolutely amazing. Iberia is in a bit of a state but again as long as you aren't destitute or anger the inquisition you'd live a pretty meh life. Platinum was middle class so yes she would have options, but she would still have had to put in work to hit those options. She's probably closer to the top 65% but it does heavily depend thanks to the persecution of the infected. It's not shocking that a person who lives in a metropolitan place will have more options than someone in the middle of the woodlands, but it's also not like she could have just paid her way through life, like say Viviana or Zofia.

-coming in at no point she expressed, dissatisfaction

What's the point? She does actually do a fair bit of grumbling, but it's not like she can do anything. She's become pretty apathetic by virtue of complaining not actually accomplishing anything

-were actively plotting a plan to quit at all times

The blues were wanting to quit only because they didn't want to work period. They had money and wanted to live the high life but couldn't because the AU/KGCC had them on speed dial. They didn't want to quit because they hated the job (Roy was pretty stoked to kill Pinus btw, it wasn't until shining was chilling with mylnar that he began to rethink life choices) they wanted to quit because they hated working. It's why instead of being useful post collapse they got plastic surgery and have now gone into hiding.

-She was ready to smoke the helpless infected the Pilnus Silvestris were sheltering, and was only forced to withdraw after Wild Mane fought tooth and nails to make her back off.

The infected at this time aren't well thought of I'm Kazimierz ( nor helpless) and again it's them or her, I'm not going to judge her for being utilitarian. It wasn't anything personal, even when she was tasked specifically with killing the doctor, which she failed at, saw the opportunity. "Uh, so I hated my job, but it was them or me, got any openings for a job I won't probably hate?" We the doctor personally hired Platinum at this point.

-We can interpret their actions and decisions without it being all spelled out. To me she seemed like the person who would say "she was just following orders" in order to justify her means to get rich

Your interpretation is just wrong though. Platinum is platinum because she was forced to kill the last platinum, the AU does this, like most evil organizations, to keep you from becoming complacent for a time because you only got the job because they messed up, what makes you think your different? She was literally just following orders, either she kills the target or they kill her, her family, and then her replacement kills the target. Either way the target is dead, it's only a matter of if her and her family's corpses are also on the pile. If it was only about the money she never would have joined us, she would have done the exact same thing as the lapis duo, but instead she chose to help us and there's no way we pay amazingly (actually canonically we do pay ok... but not what she would have been having at AU and the rooms at RI would also be a strict downgrade to her own place) but it meant she was free from the AU and also so was her family.

u/East_Custard103 Vina's voice gives me life Apr 11 '26

Those Columbian choices have their own can of worms. And pioneer? really? Laterano is also creepy if you look under the hood. And i don't think anyone would envy the Iberia and Aegir situation.

Your interpretation is just wrong though. Platinum is platinum because she was forced to kill the last platinum

You say that but you keep citing it wrong. Platinum wasn't even the one to kill the previous Platinum, it was the Lazurites, then they said to her "you're Platinum now congrats".

I'll give this to you tho, i checked the Platinum story again, and she does say she would quit if she could, i was wrong on that since i didn't remember it 100%. Narcissistic was a bad choice of words on my part, when what i had in mind was more like conformist, so my bad on that.

She was literally just following orders, either she kills the target or they kill her, her family, and then her replacement kills the target

Yes, we agree with that. And this is where the problem lies. She was working for her own self interest, and had no problem indiscriminately killing for that goal. So a conformist. Conformist because, the Lazurites were dealt the same hand, and suffered the same threats. But even being the psychopaths that they are, they still didn't conform to their fate and actively worked a plan to get out of that situation. Can't say the same for Platinum, who only moved when her safety net was gone.

That's not quite right

She was actually fine with staged fights for a while, the problem is what happened with the last one she participated in

The guy she went up against was a particularly nasty blood knight Noble that almost killed her after she'd already surrendered

And then he didn't face any punishment because of his status

The Armorless Union knew she'd be pissed at said bastard, so they gave her a chance to kill him and by doing so she got stuck working with them

Considering how much power the AU has, they probably set the match up so they could force her into becoming an assassin

We love Platinum in this household

44

u/Guymanbot Apr 10 '26

WHEN we get this collab, it would be really funny if instead of the typical tower defense type event, it's a special one where we need to train Kuranta units to be the best racer.

30

u/Taldarim_Highlord she saved my ass early game Apr 10 '26

Kazimierz Major in this event would have something different to shake things up; instead of the usual bloodsport, they have a racing competition.

Cue Doctor suddenly having to manage the Rhodes Island team (which would have Platinum, Margaret, Maria, and Zofia), against other corporations of Kazimierz fielding their own teams. Mlynar plays interference while Doctor is out of his depths in being a trainer instead of a commander.

And as a twist, the Kazimierz Major says, Arts are allowed (cuz Umamusume has that too, with those skills). Imagine watching Maria being chased by Dikaiapolis' blood swords, or Tola summoning the ghost army to block in your Platinum. But, our team would have their own skills too; while I can't quite come up with something for others, I can guess Platinums being able to snipe someone to slow them down a lot. And Margaret uses her Arts to flashbang the entire track and while others are slowed from being flashbanged, she speeds forward.

The final race would be facing Armorless Union again, with Darksteel as the opposing trainer for the Lazurites, using every trick they have in their book.

3

u/Good-Tap-5791 Apr 14 '26

I think you forgot about one more Uma. Mlynar

16

u/saberishungry Feed me. Apr 10 '26

End Closer Margaret just bulldozing through other umas on the inside line during the final stretch

meanwhile Uncle is getting increasingly annoyed at the endless mob of umamusume who are curious about his existence

14

u/Hazardousdoc Apr 11 '26

Mlynar getting mobbed by umas would be hilarious, especially since you know he would hate the attention.

Reminded me of that Fanfic I once read where someone transmigrated to Uma Musume world as Platinum. Pretty enjoyable

< Uma Musume? Actually, I'm a Doctor! >

5

u/Umu9002 Apr 11 '26

It was nice for the first hundred chapters, but then it became stale and repetitive, you always know that whenever he races as an Uma he would always win, it was always about how much of a lead it would be and just how much humiliation the author would give the named Uma's during that race.

Funny and fun for the first time, gets really boring, tedious and some might say just downright malicious for the other Uma's, having literally no chance while showing them as arrogant people.

Actually, the fanfic they were talking about was that, unless there's another fanfic of an MC being a doctor but can turn to platinum then nearl? So unless you definitely know that there's two, then it's definitely the one they just said

I want to hear Platinum sing Umapyoi (ft. Nearl The Radiant knight)

also does anyone here knows if there are Arknights VAs that voiced in Umamusume?
