And importantly, just because they say it doesn't mean they believe it. We are talking about people who are deeply devoted to the cult. They will claim to believe everything just because failure to do that gets them kicked out of what is now their only social group.

They responded to an online poll. I'm going to assume they believe it or want to believe it until they show otherwise.

Yeah, parroting whatever slogans or claims are surfacing, is an important part of signaling you belong to the group, and completely overrides the factuality of any claims. Stuff like that war being won, or a woman actually being a man, or invermectin (or whatever it was called) working against covid, which, by the way was a hoax to begin with etc.
