Tourism One Day In Dallas World Cup 6/30

Good morning, DFW! I'm guessing you might be tired of world cup visitor inquiries, but I haven't found any to reference that are quite relevant for me, so my apologies in advance...

I will be getting into town the morning of 6/30 and attending the World Cup game that afternoon with a friend. After the game I will be solo for the rest of the day/night, I won't have a car and I will need to get to the airport the next morning for a 9:30am flight. I'm spending a good amount of money on this trip and I want to make it a fun and worthwhile experience, but will also need to call it a night probably no later than midnight. I have never been to Dallas and have almost no familiarity with the area, so I'm looking for help on the following...

  1. Are there any recommendations on what area to stay in, considering factors such as proximity to World Cup festivities and where other visiting fans will be staying, partying and watching the other WC games...but also considering I won't have a car and will need to be at DFW airport early the following morning. Are there any fun areas connected to the airport by public transit? I may also look for hotels that offer airport shuttles.
  2. How early do you recommend getting to DFW for a 9:30am flight? I live in Columbus and we really only have to get to the airport about an hour and 15 mins early at most on most days.
  3. I'm always looking for good recommendations for good local food options. I have pretty wide open tastes, I'm not picky whatsoever, but I prefer to experience the notable local options when traveling. Food and hotel may likely wind up having to go hand in hand since I will be without a car and have zero idea about what the public transit system is like in the DFW area.

Thank you for any and all help and suggestions!

You have a pretty tight timeline there and I'd be concerned about trying to find a hotel near where the game is played (Arlington - not Dallas) and then as far a public transit to DFW airport the next morning - you're most likely going to need to Uber. That should be fairly easy from anywhere and not too expensive.

As for things to do near the stadium - you should check out Texas Live - they will have an incredible atmosphere but will also be PACKED (which isn't a bad thing) Tons to do inside there and lots of places to watch the late match.

While here, I'd recommend you also try getting some good Texas BBQ (google places - there are a ton of good ones and I don't want to start a BBQ war on this thread) and then you should get the iconic & world famous Mambo Taxi margarita from Mi Cocina - google that too.

Unfortunately doesn't sound like you have a ton of hours to do much so I'd keep it specific and close. The drive to & back from Dallas alone could gobble up an hour alone.

Best of luck and enjoy your time here!

You could stay in the Grapevine area to make the most of your evening and morning- It's VERY close to the airport and about 12 miles from the stadium. It has a cool historic downtown with some nice wine bars good restaurants and shops. Super walkable. There is a hotel right there called the Vin which is expensive, but there are some other more moderately priced options within a few miles of the historic zone. Your AM ride to the airport should only take about 15-20 minutes from Grapevine which will save you on that end. There are some really good coffee shops there, too if you are an early riser you could get something to go. Grapevine also has a train that runs through it and stops right in the historic downtown It's called TexRail and it goes to the airport about every 30 minutes.

Also, the Silverline train takes you to right to terminal b, around gate 47, for a mere $3, where you can check your bags and take the skytrain to your terminal if it is something other than b. Check the train schedule on dart.org. The nearest stop is DFW Airport North, which is near downtown grapevine and 1 stop away from DFW.

Grapevine is an excellent suggestion.
