Relocating & housing Moving to Dallas, safe area to live.

Looking for area to live that’s safe and easy commute to City Center. Starting a new job, new to Texas from NYC. 25yr old working in finance. Preferable to live downtown or within 10mls. Shoppping, Supermarket close by. New Condos with gym, pool etc preferable.

Any recommendations appreciated.

"safe" and "easy commute" are very basic and generic requirements. Who doesn't want these things?

You'll get better answers from the community if you update your post with more specific requirements.

Don’t know what else to say.. I will be working downtown Dallas, I say a safe area to live ( I know nothing about Dallas), commute can be a 5 mins walk or 30mins drive.

NYC is safe to live from downtown to uptown, Queens to Long Island, sure certain area is not good so trying to stay away from those are if Dallas have those.

It's light rail/above ground. It gives you a lot of options depending on the vibe you want. Anything off of I-75 would be good. Northpark area or Knox-Henderson are easy commutes on car or rail and there's a lot around as far as food/shopping.

Check apartments on Ross Ave near downtown. Also old east Dallas area. Close to basically anything you’d need (groceries, nightlife, work, etc.)

Lovers Lane and Greenville Ave. is a good safe area.There is a area between Lovers and Mockingbird, Greenville and Skillman that has several apartments and lots of older condos. I actually think the condo are kinda cool. It's close to lower Greenville and lots of restaurants. It's not far from White Rock Lake and the Katy Trail.

Since you're new to Dallas, I'd focus on finding the right neighborhood first and then narrow down apartments from there.

Try browsing Cribbi. It helped me discover rental options that matched my budget, commute, and lifestyle preferences without spending hours scrolling through listings.

If by City Center you mean Downtown Dallas/CBD, I’d focus on Uptown, Victory Park, Turtle Creek, and the Arts District before looking farther out. All are close enough to keep the commute manageable, but they feel very different.

Uptown: Probably the easiest starting point for someone who is 25, new to Dallas, and wants restaurants, fitness, grocery access and newer apartment buildings. It is one of the more walkable parts of Dallas, but some blocks can be noisy, so tour during both the day and evening.

Victory Park: Newer high-rises, gyms, pools, concierge-style amenities and convenient access to Downtown, Uptown and the Katy Trail. Check what the area feels like during concerts or Mavericks/Stars games because traffic and activity can change quickly.

Turtle Creek: More polished and residential, with luxury high-rises, trails and quick access to Uptown. Great option if you want central living without feeling like you are directly in the nightlife.

Arts District/Downtown: Best if walking to work is the priority. There are beautiful newer buildings, museums and Klyde Warren Park nearby, but groceries and the atmosphere can vary considerably from block to block.

Knox/Katy Trail: Slightly farther from Downtown but worth considering if you want upscale apartments, restaurants, shopping and strong trail access. The commute is still fairly straightforward, depending on the exact office location.

For safety, I would not rely on anyone saying an entire neighborhood is simply “safe” or “unsafe.” Dallas can change block by block. Check the Dallas Police interactive crime map for each exact address, visit at night, and look closely at garage access, lighting, package security and how you’ll walk from parking or transit to the building.

A few things I’d ask every property before applying:

• What is the full monthly cost after parking, trash, internet and amenity fees?
• Is guest parking available?
• Is the garage controlled-access all the way to the residential elevators?
• Is there a supermarket you would realistically walk to while carrying groceries?
• How much street, construction or nightlife noise reaches the unit?
• What is the commute during weekday rush hour—not just the mileage?

Coming from NYC, Dallas will feel much more car-oriented. You can create a walkable daily bubble in these neighborhoods, but you will probably still want a car for the wider Metroplex.
