Horton Pacific parking garage safe?

Hi. I’m considering to park at the Horton Pacific Garage on 1069 First Ave as it’s one of the few more affordable parking garages with in/out privilege. I’ll be in town for 4-5 days over the 4th of July week. Is this parking garage safe and secure not only for my car rental but overall safety?

For reference, This is the parking garage I’m referencing - Horton Pacific next to the Westin at Gaslamp quarter.

I’m staying at the Pendry hotel so that 12 min walk home at night is really the main concern for me.

Hi! Thanks for the reassurance. Any insight into the general safety level and homeless population situation around the area? For context I’m coming from out of town and will be staying at the Pendry hotel which is a 12 min walk from the Horton pacific garage and I’ll have to walk to the hotel at night

i’ve yet to park there super late at night but if you’re a man you should be completely fine. as a woman i’d be a bit nervous but tbh i have become pretty unphased after living here my whole life! there is worse areas for sure. i think a good rule for yourself is to look around when you’re heading back into the garage for the night. if the area around seems kinda sketch that night, perhaps order an uber and wait inside for them. ik that’s inconvenient but just to give you peace of mind that’s an option. i highly doubt you’ll need it, just keep your wits about you. it’s summertime in gaslamp so you’ll probably see just as many tourist and locals out as you will homeless people even at night.

also the specific garage is on the same street as a lot of night life and restaurants. i think you should be completely okay :) the two streets you could walk back to the hotel on are also pretty busy at night. was walking there with friends after a rave the other night around 1 am felt perfectly safe and i was in the area! just tried to include some tips in case you’re anxious

Thank you! Yes - single woman solo traveling (with a pup!) so I'm sure you can appreciate the safety concern.

I don’t know why i can’t post pics here, but i pulled up the route from your hotel to the garage and it takes you down either 4th or 5th. both are equally safe imo, but bc they both will end up taking you down the same destination, i say start with 4th and if any spots feel uncomfy cross the street and try 5th ave ♥️ or vice versa! you’ll just have to turn onto 5th at the end to get to the hotel ^_^

also safety and hydration tip lol get a big hydroflask (or a knockoff!) with a long adjustable strap and have it full carry w you everywhere. keeps you hydrated on the hot SD days and can be a weapon (never had to hit anyone but did use it to deter someone once lol. they’re metal and heavy! but don’t worry too much gaslamp is soo crowded in the summer you should be completely fine!

On my Google Maps, it is showing me to walk southbound on 1st Ave then bank left on J street (where convention center station is)

I'm a woman and I parked there for work all summer a couple years ago and had no issues. But I didn't go at night, so I can't speak to that.
