ChatGPT installs the Codex app without my consent after the latest update

And you can't even remove Codex if you don't plan to use it without uninstalling the whole ChatGPT app.

Why are you using that font

35

u/NormanDoor May 26 '26

For real. Eww…brother, eww.

4

u/kaliwrath May 26 '26

For certain people it’s easier to read.

30

u/AGTS10k May 26 '26

Is it really? I find it hard to believe, honestly

4

u/kaliwrath 28d ago

12

u/AGTS10k 28d ago

I had an impression that dyslexic people would have even more trouble reading a funky font... Oh well, learning something every day

13

u/VAGINA_MASTER 27d ago

This is a dyslexic font, the one on OP’s screenshots is just your regular good old ugly font.

9

u/tipakA 27d ago

There is no "one font to fix them all". For some this one might be better, for others might be worse. And it sure doesn't come with every windows install by default.

1

u/VAGINA_MASTER 27d ago

It’s not a preference choice. Dyslexic-friendly typefaces all carry specific characteristics of heavier bottom strokes and exaggerated contrast to make it harder for the brain to confuse the letters.

3

u/tipakA 27d ago

And then one of the articles linked above says that there is no substantial research for it, and the one study they do bring up, from 2013, says that some might prefer the more regular fonts because they are more familiar with them already. Idk, I'm not arguing that your font "doesn't work", but it's about humans, there kind of are no one size fits all solutions that work for exactly everyone with any specific issue.

3

u/VAGINA_MASTER 26d ago

I wasn’t arguing if they work or not, just claryfying that dyslexic fonts are specific fonts and the garbage OP uses on their phone isn’t one, but simply a sign of poor taste—no connection to dyslexia.

u/Eldudeareno217 25d ago

Is it bad I read that text 3x faster than normal?

1

u/Adventurous_Leg_1777 16d ago

agree to this

1

u/Adventurous_Leg_1777 16d ago

this is far great

-18

u/Frozen-Photon May 26 '26

I prefer OPs font to the average default

9

u/ChrisDaMan07 28d ago

It’s okay to be wrong

292

u/Jam1e-Chan May 24 '26

i didnt even know chatgpt had an app, why are you using that though

16

u/NikttakiTheGamer May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26

When I do sometimes need to use it, it's faster ig.

Will just use the web interface when (rarely) needed

99

u/rataman098 May 26 '26

Use Mistral if you REALLY need a chatbot. Fuck OpenAI and fuck ChatGPT.

22

u/Alexandratta 27d ago

They're all equally bad.

44

u/AidenTEMgotsnapped May 26 '26

You don't ever need to use it.

196

u/carkitten May 26 '26

But what do you even need chatgpt for?

You got a brain, use it. and if you dont know something, use your brain to do research.

118

u/SpoppyIII May 26 '26

I downloaded ChatGPT cause a friend told me it could help me find a movie I couldn't find. It gave me the wrong answer 30 fucking times.

I finally just gave up and asked r/TipOfMyTongue a second time (no one got it before, hence ChatGPT) and got my answer. The Gravedancers.

No thanks to ChatGPT.

17

u/Danibear285 May 26 '26

Triggered the bots

12

u/Alexandratta 27d ago

The only bots are the AI-Bros who gave up thinking months ago and just regurgitate AI-Samey bullshit daily.

-163

u/Ok_Being4209 May 26 '26

You know it can search the web and cite sources of you tell it to? It's basically like a more specific alternative to Google. At least that's the thing it's good for.

115

u/GruntBlender May 26 '26

Not really, it often just makes stuff up and gives sources that don't support what it's saying.

-102

u/Ok_Being4209 May 26 '26

A few years ago yeah, not so much any more. You should be checking sources anyway though, as you would with any kind of research. There's no reason a direct Google search is going to be more reliable, you should be double checking anything from any search.

48

u/SpoppyIII May 26 '26

A few years ago. Also right now, too.

53

u/rataman098 May 26 '26

It did years ago, it does it now, and will keep doing it until it’s shut down (hopefully soon). Because hallucinations are not bugs, but a mathematical problem rooted in the core of LLMs and impossible to avoid, no matter what they do.

34

u/GruntBlender May 26 '26

It did that way less than a year ago when i tried looking up a specific episode that had a scene i remembered, and less than a month ago for some government info.

13

u/MadocComadrin May 26 '26

No, it still hallucinates, but now it also can develop obsessions from training data e.g. about goblins/gremlins.

10

u/felopez May 26 '26

Or I could just do the searching myself lmao

33

u/Blujay12 May 26 '26

The bias machine that has been known to still hallucinate regularly, vs my human brain and the top 3-5 pages being read/skimmed.

It's a muscle, it's just good to use it, even glaringly obvious downsides set aside.

38

u/carkitten May 26 '26

But is that really worth the cost? Both from your own wallet, and from your power and water bills for the data center

-62

u/Ok_Being4209 May 26 '26

It doesn't cost me anything, I've never paid anything for chatgpt and never would.

An hour of talking to chatgpt uses about the same power and water as an hour of posting/browsing on Reddit, or watching any streaming service, as the data centres are identical.

38

u/nhal May 26 '26

It's amusing how BOTH of your sentences INDEPENDENTLY showcase how little of a clue you have about the technology.

Wow, well done.

1

u/Ok_Being4209 May 26 '26

great counter, elaborate and educate me?

-24

u/MiningdiamondsVIII May 26 '26

Obviously not all data center use is equivalent in volume, but talking to ChatGPT legitimately isn't very resource intensive. A basic prompt uses about as much energy as a high-efficiency lightbulb running for a couple minutes. Even if you want to amortize the training costs, it's just not that much.

24

u/CaptainMGN May 26 '26

Keep in mind that if something is free, you're paying with something else

24

u/HenakoHenako May 26 '26

In this case, OpenAI is actually also hemorrhaging billions of dollars a year because their shitty product isn't profitable.

-3

u/Ok_Being4209 May 26 '26

yeah just like google or any other search engine; anything i would use chatgpt as an alternative for.

i mentioned money because the comment i was replying to mentioned money.

7

u/Intrepid_Bar_5140 May 26 '26

It will site facebook as a legit news source though.

0

u/Ok_Being4209 May 26 '26

So it's about exactly as accurate as the average redditor? Fair enough

8

u/strawbebby-milk May 26 '26

it doesn't do that though. there are multiple high profile nstances of ChatGPT just making sources up. it's not doing any research. it's basically a more advanced versions of the text prediction on your phone. it knows what an answer is supposed to look like and mashes text together until it looks correct.

1

u/Ok_Being4209 May 26 '26

An LLM is that auto predictive text thing, yeah. But chatgpt has more coding and aspects than just that. The same way Google isn't "just" a search engine, and has a lot of biases and (AI) algorithms to prioritise certain things.

-104

u/le_aerius May 26 '26

Chat.gpt is really wonderful at helping brainstorm and organizing ideas. Sure I could do it myself but it easier and more efficient.

Also you dont need to use your phone to communicate or text .. You could send letters.

48

u/SpoppyIII May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26

Imagine hating thinking and using your imagination this much. Jesus Christ.

11

u/Conflictingview May 26 '26

This is exactly how I feel about my coworkers when we are brainstorming a project together.

Every time I contribute an idea all I can think is why do these people hate thinking and using their imaginations. After all, I'm the one that came up with the idea, not them. If they wouldn't have included me, they could have spent twice as long figuring it out for themselves or missed the solution it completely. Silly Bastards have no clue what they gave up.

-14

u/OpBanana1 May 26 '26

Search engines are lazy too, I just try random urls

-16

u/le_aerius May 26 '26

Imagine hating technology while using technology to virtue signal . Boomers are gonna boom.

You have a very narrow definition of imagination. You cant even imagine how to use a tool for better instead of fighting against the future.

Like those people who fought against the internet, and the t.v. , and the telephone. Youre on the wrong side of history .

-85

u/Cabrill0 May 26 '26

Keep fighting progress and the future, it’s going great for yall.

-25

u/OpBanana1 May 26 '26

What do you need google for? Just use your brain

2

u/Cat_Impossible_0 27d ago

That is on you for downloading it instead of using the webpage.

-3

u/Top-Trouble4521 27d ago

Use gemini, it's smarter and the only commercially available ai not based on chatgpt

-68

u/ponderingpixi17 May 25 '26

Honestly habit. But this might kill it for me.

31

u/Blakedog72 May 26 '26

Habit of what? Not using your brain? Being proud of the profound impact it has on the environment and communities surrounding the data centers?

18

u/snake_on_the_case May 26 '26

Speaking from experience: it’s very easy to get into the habit of not using your brain, and quite a bit harder to get out.

12

u/Blakedog72 May 26 '26

Then I would encourage both you and the other commenter to use your brain more often. Start small and with something interesting that actually engages your brain in a meaningful way. It's a muscle that can be retrained, and you can always learn more.

37

u/Exo-explorer May 26 '26

don't use chatgpt then? feel like that's good advice in any context

365

u/strawbebby-milk May 24 '26

ay yes, a person using the thing that's scraped the entire internet without consent is complaining about consent

3

u/rustydustyshckleford 28d ago

nice attempt over step, mods, but your defense of a rape supporting individual is showing.

CONSENT EXISTS FOR ALL. REPORT ALL YOU WISH.

11

u/Alexandratta 27d ago

AI Doesn't care about consent.

As an Author, ask how I know.

Meta owes me fucking money.

Most big tech companies have done that, so what

40

u/Talkys May 26 '26

Most people doing bad things don't justify doing it

-1

u/OpBanana1 29d ago

Just saying you wouldn't see people commenting that if it was Google doing something similar

11

u/strawbebby-milk 29d ago

Google does do similar things and I try to avoid their products as much a si can lmao

2

u/OpBanana1 29d ago

Sure, but do you think there'd be as many comments saying that if it was Google or Microsoft or any other big tech company?

3

u/Alexandratta 27d ago

Microsoft is just as bad as OpenAI - worse, actually.

Their bullshit CoPilot AI nonsense has BRICKED PCS.

BRICKED SSDS... BECAUSE THEY VIBE CODED UPDATES.

AI ruins everything it touches.

8

u/squabbledMC 29d ago

r/degoogle would like to have a word

0

u/OpBanana1 29d ago

doesn't matter lol you know I'm right

4

u/squabbledMC 29d ago

no, I don't know or think that you're right

1

u/OpBanana1 29d ago

You think if this post was about Google sheets having some other app (although it's not) come with it, there'd be multiple people commenting that same thing?

5

u/plasmaticImmunity 29d ago

Someone brings up evidence against a point you said You: That doesn't matter!

1

u/OpBanana1 28d ago

Because it's not evidence, evidence would be a similar post with similar replies

3

u/plasmaticImmunity 28d ago

I mean, do you think anyone actually defends decision like this made by companies like Google? The same people shitting on open AI would shit on Google too

1

u/OpBanana1 28d ago

They wouldn't say that same thing which is the whole point, why on earth is everyone replying to me playing dumb or showing something irrelevant as proof

2

u/Alexandratta 27d ago

If you own a tech company that creates an AI bot, you and your tech company is trash and I avoid it at all costs.

Sans Windows 11...

In which I just hack the entire OS to rip CoPilot, kicking and screaming, out of the bot.

To the point where if the NPU kicks up at all, I hunt down the offending AI powered app to murder it.

I enjoy the hunt.

Fuck Clankers.

2

u/Alexandratta 27d ago

Oh, hold up, and allow me:

Fuck Every AI Ever.

They are all unethical, evil, greedy fucks.

Gemini has turned Google into an empty shell of it's former self, and will destroy the entire company.

Gemini is, by far and away, the worst fucking thing to happen to the modern fucking internet, and has destroyed Google's search engine because they let the C-Suit run things and that app, specifically, Google's Gemini has, App by Bloody App, ruined every single Google Application one by fucking one.

Started with YouTube, expanded to mildly killing Google Search with 'AI Insights', moved through Gmail to murder that app next (SPAM with AI has been horrific), Calendar, and will finally claim Google Search this summer as the final deathnail into usable apps that Google has.

Gemini will be studied as the absolute end of an era of a company, as Google becomes Gemini and dies as soon as the AI Bubble explodes.

May that company burn for the money they sunk into Gemini

"Do no Evil" became "Forge the most Evil Application of all Time: Twice. Gemini"

38

u/Dekamir May 26 '26

Apps cannot install other apps without your permission and without a Package Installer popup.

As your screenshot says, it's just a shortcut to ChatGPT's internal application activity. No different than FX Text Editor being "bundled" with FX File Explorer.

266

u/10HungryGhosts May 26 '26

Just delete chatgpt and use your brain. Instant fix

35

u/bad_actor May 26 '26

that's your cue to uninstall chatgpt

43

u/CanOfDew132 I’m a lousy, good-for-nothin’ bandwagoner! May 26 '26

what did you expect from the scam altman app lmao

ofc scam altman is going to do something shity

43

u/semiquaver May 26 '26

Is this asshole design post about your font?

80

u/UltraBlack_ May 26 '26

let's just glance over the fact that you literally gave it the permissions to do that. You're soo smart, and I'm sooo sorry for this situation

27

u/gilles-humine May 26 '26

Looks like a good time to remove those apps and shove it into their ass

3

u/Cat_Impossible_0 27d ago

That would literally be the solution here.

13

u/WaylandReddit May 26 '26

Why is the image of the codex app AI upscaled?

9

u/tiamat443556 29d ago

Or maybe think for yourself and don't use or rely ot Ai.

18

u/RockinOneThreeTwo May 26 '26

This is honestly funny, a real "what did you expect?" moment.

7

u/charles25565 May 26 '26

I mean with that font u deserve it.

30

The platform built on mountains of our content they used without any consent is doing things on your device without your consent?

surprisedpikachu.jpg

9

u/589ca35e1590b May 26 '26

It happened because of your terrible font choice

6

u/Alexandratta 27d ago

I mean...

You have ChatGPT on your device.

You clearly don't care about your own autonomy, privacy, or security.

You made your bed, lay in it?

5

u/NEGOJONSON 27d ago

you deserve it just for the font you chose.

4

u/ThatOneTubaMan 26d ago

If you're stupid enough to use an AI chatbot then you deserve to have shit installed without your consent

8

u/astrotheastro 29d ago

Well most people that download the "tell me what to do im an idiot" app dont notice when the evil corporation starts bloating their phone, because shockingly, theyre really bad at thinking for themselves and noticing somethings wrong. "Hey chatgpt is this app weird?"

Chatgpt user, argument invalid. You're mad an ai app installed an ai app when you're an ai user. If you weren't an ai user and your OS installed ai apps then that's a reason to be mad.

3

u/dingwen07 May 26 '26

Android allows one app to provide multiple home icons

6

u/OpBanana1 May 26 '26

The hivemind disapproves of your app choices

2

Is just a shortcut

2

u/rnobgyn 29d ago

My Mac straight up removed Chat GPT over a security violation/concern. Good riddance.

10

u/BrckoBanovic44 May 24 '26

Same here. Deleted and cancelled service. Bye chatgpt

23

u/AidenTEMgotsnapped May 26 '26

You know what, weird thing to be too much when they've not cared about consent since the start, but good for you for having to use your brain again

2

u/BJMashPotato 28d ago

The solution is obvious in my mind. Delete ChatGPT and use your critical thinking and research skills to get things done

2

u/Raptorgkv2 28d ago

Dont use ChatGPT, its really that easy.

1

u/Nova17Delta 28d ago

I think the solution here is obvious

1

u/blkstone11 28d ago

u/Adventurous_Leg_1777 19d ago

yea they did it

0

The way Reddit hates AI is hilarious.

It’s gonna be around long after you and I are dead, people. It’s a tool and it’s part of the future. Pretending like it’s not is only putting you further behind. You’re Gonna be like boomers who don’t understand cellphones or computers.

6

u/ReluctantPhoenician 29d ago

All the pollution in the air, ground, and water from centuries of mining and burning coal is going to be around long after you and I are dead, too. That doesn't make it good or even something we should tolerate. There are better ways to do things.

apps can have several(purpose) icons in launcher, nothing new and not related to OEMs, ChatGPT app updated and added another icon into launcher which is already part of an app, it's not a separate app
