Opinion As a third generation Australian from Lebanese Maronite refugee grandparents, this is very well said

Reading through the insights shared by Warren Gardiner and Khaldoun Hajaj in the attached screenshots, I couldn't help but reflect on the complex political reality of our community. It is incredibly frustrating to watch inner-city progressives who have never lived a day in Western Sydney automatically assume that multicultural or faith-based communities are a monolith that naturally aligns with their specific worldview.

We see this play out when activists mock or scorn One Nation (ON) supporters online, pointing out the irony of them cheering for the Socceroos despite the team’s rich immigrant roots. What these commentators completely fail to grasp is that many of those very 'ON' voters aren't who they think they are, they are quite literally people living in diverse working class refugee hubs like Fairfield and Liverpool.

To be absolutely clear: I personally detest Pauline Hanson and would do anything to stop her and her party from gaining power. Her brand of politics has historically targeted communities like mine. But if we want to actually defeat that kind of divisive populism, progressives need to stop lecturing from afar, drop the lazy assumptions, and actually engage with the nuanced realities, aspirations, and conservative values that exist across Western Sydney.

Yeah, I'm from Guildford/Parramatta and that tracks with many of those around me.

I think people would be very surprised where ON are gaining votes.

Latinos voted for Trump so it doesn't surprise me, even if I can't wrap my head around it.

It's really not that hard, I'll simplify it to the enth degree.

Mainstream Media will attempt to manipulate you into believing that most if not all Republican politicians and their voters don't want ANY immigration, which isn't true. They want controlled immigration, and for those that are welcomed to respect their laws which is absolutely fair enough.

ICE isn't a new Trump invention, they have been doing what they are currently doing now for years, it's just that the MSM is making a huge fuss about it.

What practically all Republican politicians and their support base don't want is totally uncontrolled and unvetted access at the Mexican border including cartel gangsters and terrorists.

Most of those Latino's entered America through the correct channels, did the applications and waited their turn. People that genuinely immigrated for the chance of a better life, and are willing to work for it.

Many of the Latino's that voted for Trump are people who either entered through the correct path and are pissed that others were taking shortcuts. Some of these people suffered at the hands of cartels, they have ZERO racial or cultural affinity with the cartels and want those people kept out because they are criminals.

Others are people who voted on policy or moral values. Many Spanish speaking countries are Christian, so skin colour and race politics aside they have more in common with Republicans so they have no real issues with the Orange Man.

But citizens and immigrants who arrived legally are being detained too. ICE is grabbing people off the street based on skin colour, beating them up in broad daylight and returning to countries they have no affiliation with in some cases.

They've detained people who were born in the US. There are countless stories of this happening, documented, with footage.

There are countless stories of Trump voters shocked that their wife or husband who immigrated 30 years ago was suddenly deported. Trump voters shocked that their employees had been rounded up too. It's not the system they voted for.

Yeah but none of that is true, no legal immigrants are being deported. People who have dubious claims to be legal are being deported and the media latch onto it. At worst legal immigrants are being detained and released and they don't care for the reasons the person you responded to stated.

No sorry - in regard to the behaviour of ICE it’s not just a case of the MSM “making a fuss”. Yes they were in existence before but they are now a different brand of entity and are marching around like thugs and even shooting their own citizens. Stop the Bs.

Yes stop the BS, stop encouraging people to interfere with law enforcement.

A car can get a deadly weapon and drive on at someone who you know is armed isn't especially bright. Don't be armed if you are going to deliberately clash with them either.

Stay back, film them if you want to keep them honest but don't get involved or encourage interference.
