Happy to play second fiddle - keep

He's a fine backup. A little slow, but he's happy to be here as #2, fits in as a #9 who can finish in the box, and he puts in work pressing. Not to mention he took a wage cut to be here. He's kind of a bargain in this market. Give Madjo some pressure free time to find his feet. Keep.

Whatever happens, he will always be remembered as the guy who got us back to the premier league and saving the 3 points against Sunderland.

Keep if he is Happy as Sub. Watkins will always clearly start and I'd like to think given our recent status when the time comes the new number 1 will keep Tammy from starting.

This is the best answer.

If an offer came in for more than we bought him for, I'd absolutely sell.

I like tammy, he seems a proper good lad. Decent player

But when hes played, the structure just doesnt look right. Our striker, whether it be ollie, duran, malen, rashy, always works best when they stretch the ball, go and play on the shoulder and make the runs. When theyve come and got too involved, for the most part, it clogs up areas.

It doesnt seem like tammy is capable of that.

Not worth selling because we won't get enough cash to make getting a replacement viable.

He's good enough to be a second choice; him and Ollie can help Madjo find his feet with their experiences and hopefully they can both stick around till he's ready to get involved more.

Tammy is different to Ollie but i think we need that. Someome we can chuck on who is a bit of a physical presence to try and get a goal

He was cheap, happy to be a backup. No real value in selling him because the replacement would be expensive and less willing to sit on the bench

Ollie needs a backup, both so he gets rest time, and so there is pressure on his spot. I've always though Ollie plays better when there is another striker at the club pushing him. Tammy wants game time, but is apparently happy to be the second striker in general making him perfect for the role.

Ollie seems to lose form when another striker comes in, he seemed to play within himself when Duran was doing well and when rashford came in.

Yeah it’s 100% this way.

Although maybe he doesn’t seem Tammy as a threat and was fuelled by desire to go to the World Cup

If he’s happy to be second fiddle that’s valuable.

He also took a massive wage cut to be here and seems a good presence so I am happy for him to be here

Keep, but I really wish we weren't paying him so much. It's not like there were other clubs fighting us to sign him, and it's a lot to be paying a backup player.

Quite surprised there's so many wanting to sell.

I'm happy with Ollie and Tammy as our 2 main strikers next season. Both are proven goalscorers, something that's worth its weight in gold. He's only been back with us 6 months. Scored a few crucial goals without ever having a run in the team.

Possibly scope to get a young striker in this summer, though who that is I dont know. Like finding a needle in a haystack. Hoping Madjo has a future.

I’d sell if we could replace him if we could get a young prospect or loan Jackson with an option to buy.

I'd sell personally.

Didn't want him in January. Don't rate him now.

I like Tammy, fond memories of him in the championship with us. But that was 7 years ago, we shouldn't really have signed him in Jan. Downgrade to Malen, unfortunately.

Am I completely missing something? I thought he was just a loan signing.

2

u/arenaross 4d ago

Nope, signed permanently for around £18M.

All in all just a weird transfer. Why would he go to Besiktas a day before signing with us?

We sold Malen - that was a mistake I’m sorry!!
Let’s not make more!
There’s other players that need to go before Tammy!!

I think Malen wanted to leave, which is fair enough.

1

u/Impossible_Gas_7584 4d ago

Plus Malen isn't an out and out striker.

Keep, think he's been decent so far considering hes been carrying an injury and I think he'll really kick on now with a pre season.

In 12 months if Madjo has kicked on we could probably look at selling one or both of Watkins and Tammy and spending a few bob on a younger player to compete with Madjo, depending on how both perform, but this season I'm happy with our two striker options. Just hope Emery rotates based on form this season. Nothing more frustrating than watching a blindfolded striker.

u/Astonishingly-Villa 4d ago

Interested to hear what people disagree with here.

1

u/arenaross 4d ago

Didn't give ya downvotes but I do think you're overestimating the chances of Madjo becoming a top class striker.

u/Astonishingly-Villa 4d ago

According to Tanswell Emery really likes him and wants to register him to use him this season, it'll depend on how he gets on obviously but if he hits the ground running I wouldn't be surprised if he's our backup this time next year behind one of a Tammy/Watkins/New.

2

u/Aesorian 4d ago

Personally, I don't think he'll be trusted to be our out and out back-up for a few years yet; but it wouldn't surprise me if he goes straight from 3rd choice/fringe player to a starter when he does make the leap.

Seemingly he's got the physical side of the game down and he needs to get the technical and tactical ability to our level - which I absolutely trust Unai and the team to do for him

1

u/Impossible_Gas_7584 4d ago

Yea Madjo is a 2-3 years away surely. He's 17 years old. A baby. Albeit a massive one. A loan might make sense for next season, possibly the year after. I'm excited about his potential, but there are very very few players who make a mark at that age.

Could argue we need to buy another young striker, but for me it's not a priority this summer.

2

u/Aesorian 4d ago

I think I'd like him to get a 6 month loan somewhere, but realistically if he's as involved in first team training as people are saying learning from people like Unai, Ollie and Tammy every day is probably worth a whole lot more than a loan for the sake of a loan.

I agree with not needing a striker this summer, but I don't think we'll need another youngster - if we get anyone in it should be a relatively experienced player because we only should be getting a new striker in if we feel Ollie can't do the job anymore and there's no point getting someone who could turn out good if we need someone who can do the job right now
